A Gloucester Random Act Of Kindness- Jamie the Animal Control Officer
Jeffrey B French writes-
Hi Joey, i enjoy your blog, especially the photos, we live in such a beautiful place. You show me places I have not seen yet after living here 47 years. Last week, in broad daylight, someone tied a 9 year old Husky to the front stairs of my office, the Cape Ann Veterinary Hospital on Essex Ave, and took off. The person left an envelope tied to his collar containing $20 and a note saying they could no longer take care of "King". I called Jamie the Animal Control Officer, who came right away, and has been caring for the dog, walking him and spending time getting him to trust people again. He also comes on his day off. I know some people may think being an Animal Control Officer is kind of a heartless job, but I wanted you to know that the one we have in Gloucester is a special kind of person, and has gone out of his way to try to turn a bad situation into something good. As far as I know, "King" will be available for adoption at the end of a ten day confinement period.

Discover the Warrior Within — Meditation for Those Who Don’t But Want To
FREE
Fridays, 5:30 — 7 PM, April 6th – June 8th
Drop-ins Welcome. Come to all classes or just one!
Designed to Help Beginners Get Started & Help Others Jump Start a Languishing Practice.
The point of meditation is to learn to be happy but how do we create a beautiful life, filled with happiness, in the face of family troubles, illness, violence, poverty or fear? Look around. Do you know anyone who doesn’t face some of these "troubles" to some extent?
Through meditation, we can discover a warrior within. One of Joey’s favorite people, Lama Marut, a Buddhist teacher who has been regularly visiting Cape Ann for the past 7 years, calls this "…the big rage-in-the-cage smack-down with … the demons that undermine the happiness we all seek."
Explore how meditation can calm the mind & ease some medical conditions. Learn how to meditate & create mindfulness. Generate a consistent meditation practice. Learn to be happy. Take on what it means to be a spiritual warrior.
Classes will include short meditations and the opportunity to share your experiences – and get some help with your practice.
Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to learn meditation from a secular and a spiritual point of view.
Please arrive on time so that you don’t run the risk of disturbing others during guided meditations, which may be in progress.
You do NOT have to be Buddhist to attend. Everyone is welcome.

Poll- Does Paul Morrison Need A Duck Intervention
Lest any of our FOBs think that I, Joey am the man behind R. Duck I would like to clear up that misconception immediately. People have been sending me ducks and I’m not sure why. The official logo is a seagull (homie) and the popular segment where I would feature a seagull with a caption is the”What up Homie?” category here on GMG. You can see the 550 “What Up Homie?” posts here
The wonderfully quirky Mr. Paul Morrison has introduced GMG to the world of one R. Duck. Since R Duck’s introduction I have yet to see Paul Morrison travelling without his trusty sidekick. This includes Mug-Ups, The Blackburn Challenge, breakfasts, and even Wine Dinners at Passports.
Now you, as I, might think that to be a little strange- a grown man lugging a rubber duck around everywhere he goes. But to know Pal Morrison you also know that something isn’t quite right to begin with. His poor wife simply rolls her eyes at a mention of the duck.
So I ask you, does Paul Morrison need a Rubber Duck Intervention?

GMG Spring Fling this Saturday 6PM
The real kickoff to the entire season is upon us this Saturday, 6PM at Fred Bodin’s Historic Photo right here in our historic West End. All FOBs (friend of blog) and FORDs (friends of Rubber Duck) are invited.
RD has been thinking long and hard about what to bring. A bottle of Ryan & Wood Knockabout Gin (she loves the licorice accents) is a must but what else?
OK, to steal some photos from EJ, here is RD’s Vaseline Glass and Geiger Counter.
RD will bring a piece of Vaseline Glass and demonstrate the radioactivity using her geiger counter. Perfectly harmless although maybe I wouldn’t microwave popcorn in it.
Also a contest. Pretty easy. Correctly guess where RD is in the next photo.
All winners will be given the honor of showering Rubber Duck with gifts. As a good example RD will be wearing the necklace given to her by Beth Williams.  Beth could also bring a piece of her antique Vaseline glass she has in the window that I am betting pegs the geiger counter. If you have a piece of Vaseline glass just bring it to the hoedown at Fred’s and we’ll see if it’s hot.
But back to the gifts. Rubber Duck is a little bit bigger than you think so if you are going to make her a little Red Sox baseball cap her head is about the size of a lime. Hmm, limes also make great gifts as RD will never turn down a Gin and Tonic.
Wow–So many fun things to do this week in Gloucester!
Two events I am especially looking forward to this week are the Good Morning Gloucester Spring Fling, Saturday (March 21, 6:00 pm) at Bodin Historic Photo Gallery, and the premier of Wim Wenders Pina at Cape Ann Community Cinema.Â
If you attended the GMG Christmas party, then you know you are in for a fabulously fun night. GMG contributors will all be there, and I especially love meeting the people who comment regularly on the blog. Fred Bodin and Joey Ciaramitaro are the perfect hosts. BYOB, bring food, or not-not required, and bring your fun-self! The party is for FOBs, FOGs, contributors, and is open to all.
Just a few of the GMG artists and FOBs you’re likely to meet at the Spring Fling!
Perhaps Felicia will make her heavenly ricotta pie…
Pina premires locally at Cape Ann Community Cinema on Friday, March 30th at 2:30, 7:30, and 9:45, with a special sneak preview at 6:00 pm tonight, Monday, March 26th.
PINA is a film for Pina Bausch, the great German choreographer, by Wim Wenders. He takes the audience on a sensual, visually stunning journey of discovery into a new dimension: straight onto the stage with the legendary Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch ensemble; he follows the dancers out of the theatre into the city and the surrounding areas of Wuppertal – the place, where for 35 years, was the home and centre for Pina Bausch’s creativity.

Vernal Pond Peepers 03/22/2012
Vernal Pond Peepers 03/22/2012
We have a vernal pond in our backyard. At this time of year the place starts jumping; Frogs, Snakes, Minx, Otters, Mallards and their Ducklings, etc. are just some of things you can see and hear.
I filmed this video so you can hear how loud it gets here during a warm spring night. A couple of nights before I filmed this there was only one lone peeper looking for a date. Now there are thousands of them. You won’t see much in this video of me walking to the pond, but you’ll hear alot.
What are peepers (Pseudacris crucifer)? Click here to find out!
