5th Annual Runaround Fireworks Extravaganza CORRECTION

The Runaround Sound on Gloucester’s Boulevard ~ July 3, 2011

We just corrected the Chamber’s listing for July 3, which had incorrectly listed Henri Smith as a performer.  (He’s opening for Aaron Neville at North Shore Music Theatre this Saturday.)

This year is the Runaround’s 5th anniversary performing FOR FREE on the Boulevard July 3.  Every year it gets better.  This year, we’ll be treated to the Cape Ann Big Band as well.  Check out this video of them at Shalin Liu:

John Goodhue will open the show at 5pm.  Don’t miss this year’s extravaganza.  The Horribles Parade goes right by the Boulevard.  It’s the ONLY place to be on July 3!

Tonight, Nelson Bragg (of the Brian Wilson Band) is hosting a listening party for his 2nd CD, We Get What We Want at Rhumbline tonight at 7pm.  Another chance to see a real rock star for free in Gloucester.  See him on tambourine & percussion with KMBG at Celebrate Gloucester in the video below:

Tasty Healthy Snack Idea- Dannon Light and Fit Strawberry Yogurt Mixed With Roasted Almonds

Tasty, Light, Packed with Protein.

Trying to eat healthy doesn’t mean you can only eat bland tasteless textureless food.  This is very tasty.

Just throwin’ it out there for you if you’re looking for options.

Playing Hooky

Well I guess I wasn’t the only one playing hooky from mug up on Sunday morning. Look who I ran into at Todd Farm…

Sarah Kelly, The Roving Home at Todd Farm

Our very own Sarah Kelly!  (and her very cool Elton John shades)

Sarah Kelly, The Roving Home, Todd Farm

She had her beautiful Roving Home booth set up with her newest addition; Francie.  Francie was quietly sleeping in the shade and enjoying the fresh air.

I have to say sorry to my fellow GMG peeps. I miss mug up a lot because I have this vintage addiction and feel lost without my Sunday Todd Farm adventures! It’s kinda like crack. 🙂

Sandy Chadwick Has Some Nice Things To Say

Hi

I love GoodMorningGloucester and look forward every day to reading it.  I get my O.F. (Ocean Fix) from it.  I took a photo yesterday right before sunset and after the thunderstorms had passed from my mom’s place on Rust Island.

Keep up the wonderful work.  I stopped by the General Store on Friday and bought 2 Greasy Pole hats.  Would not have known about the store without GMG.

You’re welcome to use the photo if you want.

New Feature: Tyler From Yankee Fleet’s Gloucester MA Fishing Report

image

Tyler writes-

Based on what I’ve heard and seen, there are COPIOUS amounts of squid around and many people are catching them for dinner while others are fishing them for big stripers at night. Use a yo-zuri squid jig and look for pilings with bright light once it gets dark as the light brings them in.

I have had many customers coming in buying seaworms saying that the flounder bite is still very hot. sandy bottoms per usual are the best places to find them. The dogbar was "loaded" with flounder I heard from two customers who quickly bought a dozen worms to head back out there. If you’re looking for stripers with this warm weather, the water temperature will be rising and as the summer progresses you will have to change your fishing times to early in the morning and later at night as they will be heading to deeper, cooler water during the day as the summer heats up, but for now there are still mackerel around the groaner.  Using sabiki’s is still catching striper candy.   If surf fishing from the rocks, fish the white water for the big linesider of the season.

No word on bluefish, but with the water temps heating up its only a matter of time. Come down to the tackle shop at 121 east main street to get all the tackle and information you need, and if we don’t have what you are looking for we are more than happy to order it for you!

Feel free to leave a question for my in the comment section directly under this post and I will do my best to answer it for you.

Nearly Every Day

Nearly Every Day

Nearly every day I wander about

with camera in hand (attached like some odd

prosthetic device) trying to capture

the seconds that constitute my life.

It’s as if by snapping the shutter I

assure myself that nothing will change;

the people and places I see and freeze

in time will always be here and I will always

be unseen, but still be part of the whole

of this marvelous place discovered so late.

And those who tend their shops or perfect their art;

who play with their kids and fix and serve our meals,

or prepare their boats for long hauls at sea;

and those who repair our roads, connect our phones,

keep the peace and douse our errant fires and

those who find joy on the water; all those who don’t see me

as I observe them from the docks and corners

and the doorways as I walk  the town

make their lives part of my own and allow

their moments to mingle and merge with mine.

I put my camera to my eye and for one

fraction of a second a silhouette and I are one,

sharing that brief instant, caught forever

in a world that will never change.
