The summer down the dock has been one of the busiest I can ever recall so my morning breakfast routine had been on hold while I’ve wilted away to a shadow of my former self.

Jerome John (Jerry) Garcia (1942-1995)
Founder, lead guitarist, and songwriter, Garcia led the Grateful Dead for thirty years, fusing blues, bluegrass and psychedelia to create one of the leading tour bands of all time. Throughout his career he was plagued by ill health, exacerbated by diabetes and heroin addiction. He died of a heart attack while in rehab at age 53. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cherry Garcia ice cream was named in his honor.

Went to Jewels of Gloucester for a ring repair, John was so nice and explained to me it would be very expensive to repair due to the value of the ring. It was nice to have a merchant with ethics. A gentleman by the name of Jim was doing repairs during my visit and he also makes jewelry as you will see a picture of his Sea Urchin that he made into a necklace. Check out this camera they’re using. for the Wicked Tuna shoot. It’s based on a platform similar to an SLR. They use this one for shooting regular speed and another that shoots high speed at 1000 frames per second!

The release of the album Transformer was a seminal moment in our cultural history. The first video features David Bowie and Lou Reed with interesting interviews (with the Little Joe and Holly of the song’s fame), film clips, and photographs of the early days. The video ends abruptly, in mid-sentence.
An oft quoted statement attributed to Brian Eno is, “The first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band.”
Lou Reed, John Cale, Angus MacLise, and Sterling Morrison were the four original members of the Velvet Underground. Michael Leigh wrote the pulp paperback The Velvet Underground, from which the band took its name. The book The Velvet Underground is about the sexual subculture of the early 1960s.

I came across this handsome polydactyl cat the other day near the rectory here at St. Ann’s Church. According to various internet sources (including, of course, Wikipedia), “double-pawed” cats are particularly common on the east coast. Reputedly, sailors prized them as skilled mousers and bringers of good luck. Historically, they are particularly linked to Boston, from whence they spread to other ports. Hence, their higher distribution in cities like Gloucester.
This particular cat has polydactyly on both front and back feet, which is apparently (according to Wikipedia) fairly rare. He was also extremely friendly with me, despite my being a total stranger.
According to a member of our parish staff, this cat (he, or maybe she? I’m not sure…) hangs around the church a lot. Does anybody know to whom he belongs? If he’s a stray, I’m adopting him… (or her, or it, or whatever…)

Here are some photos of the Fish Box Derby registration and weigh-in held last Sunday morning at C. B. Fisk. The race will be this Sunday, Sep. 16th, at High Noon on the Rogers St. Hill. We encourage everyone to come out there Sunday and cheer these fantastic kids on – the Thrill of the Hill is at its best with a great audience!

"A Forensic Psychiatrist Looks at the Colorado Shooter" is the talk I’m giving at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center on Monday, September 17th at 7pm.
I’m in private practice with my wife Jean on Main Street now, but for 8 years I worked in maximum security and interviewed over 200 murderers, including mass murderers.
I plan to walk the audience through what it’s like to go one on one with someone who’s just killed a lot of people, how you handle yourself, what questions you ask (and don’t ask), how you determine whether someone’s criminally insane and how to detect when someone’s faking it.
The purpose is to raise money for the Cultural Center, with a suggested donation of $5.

Theatre in the Pines celebrates its 25th Anniversary Season with its eightieth production, Lend Me A Tenor by Ken Ludwig at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Friday, Sept 14 at 7:30; Saturday Sept 15 matinee at 3:00 and evening at 7:30 and Sunday, Sept. 16 matinee at 3:00 p.m. Directed by Nan Webber, this hilarious comedy takes place in an hotel suite in Cleveland, Ohio. When Tito Morelli, the Italian star slated to play Otello, succumbs to an accidental overdose of tranquillizers, an unknown singer masquerades as Tito. The newcomer succeeds so well that neither Tito’s public nor his women suspect the substitution. Mayhem ensues when Tito sobers up, and the truth is revealed. Rick Doucette reprises the role of Tito which he first played here and in England in 1996. New to the cast are Larry Cook, Courtney Peckham, Martin Ray, Eileen Fitzgerald, Henry Cooper, Marjorie Grace and Mary Rudolph Black.
