New Season Of Wicked Tuna Starts Tonight!

Exclusive Interview with ‘Wicked Tuna’ Star Dave Marciano: Captain Discusses New Season, Popularity of Fishing Today

In an exclusive interview with Wide Open Spaces, Captain Dave Marciano of the FV/Hard Merchandise gives a sneak peak into the new season of “Wicked Tuna” on National Geographic.

Monday nights are about to be wicked awesome once again with the return of “Wicked Tuna” on National Geographic. As one of the most wildly successful shows on the channel, the fifth season of “Wicked Tuna” promises to be better and more action-packed than previous ones.

Nat Geo Wicked Tuna
Facebook.com/NatGeoTV

This season, six teams will be competing against one another to catch the most Atlantic bluefin tuna. As viewers know, some of the crews are recovering from a rough fishing season in the Outer Banks. Participating boats for Season 5 include the FV-Tuna.com (Captain Dave Carraro), Hard Merchandise (Captain Dave Marciano), Pin Wheel (Captain Tyler McLaughlin), Hot Tuna (Captain T.J. Ott), Wicked Pissah (Captain Paul Hebert), and newcomers, The Eric & Sarah (Captain Pete Speeches), a father and daughter team.

Skipper Dave Marciano of FV Hard Merchandise visits ENHA tour at Cape Pond Ice

Celebrity NatGeo Skipper Dave Marciano of FV Hard Merchandise stopped by Cape Pond during our ENHA Trails & Sails Saturday morning tour, to sign autographs and settle up his ice bill – he’d been by earlier with the boat – and also to model a Wicked Tuna / Wicked Ice t-shirt, which we traded for a fresh blue fin tuna steak…. — with Dave Marciano.

There’s a new Humpback Whale at Cape Pond Ice on Gloucester’s inner harbor – if you didn’t see one today out on a Gloucester whale watch, than come tomorrow, Sunday, or next Friday, Saturday or Sunday, for our free ENHA Trails & Sails Icehouse tours. Master Ice Sculptor Donald Chapelle of Brilliant Ice Sculpture is carving a “pod” of Humpbacks for our ice sculpture display, a smaller scale version of his life-size sculpture done in 2007 for Boston’s First Night…. and the first whale has definitely arrived, in all his fluking glory.

Huge Thanks To The Captains Of Wicked Tuna- Dave Carraro and Dave Marciano

I’m not sure people around here outside of the restaurateurs and shop owners realize the impact that these guys have had on local business.

These hard working fishermen and real life men of character have captured the hearts of America from their legions of fans who watch Wicked Tuna.

I can’t begin to tell you how many people I run into from all over the country that come in and ask where they can see The Hard Merchandise or Tuna.com.  They love the show and they come to Gloucester to stay for vacation, eat at our restaurants and shop in our shops.  But it doesn’t end there.  They stay at our hotels, they book charters and when their charters are filled up they pass off those charters on to other local charter boat Captains.

I hear it over and over and over again and these people are coming from all over the country.

So when you see these guys around town, give ‘em a pat on the back and say thanks for representing our City and making us proud.

Fish on Fridays

The Fish on Fridays series is a collaboration between Gloucester photographers Kathy Chapman and Marty Luster. Look for various aspects of Gloucester’s centuries-old fishing industry highlighted here on Fridays.

Fish Tales

Fishing  aboard a locally owned and operated charter boat is a part of Gloucester’s fishing industry.  As catch limits make it increasingly difficult for small commercial fishing operations to remain viable, we can expect some of the fleet to turn to sport fishing charters for livelihoods.

We visited with Capt. Dave Marciano and Mate Jason Muenzer aboard FV Hard Merchandise.  Dave has merged commercial groundfish and tuna fishing with taking on private charter parties.

Unfortunately, last winter, a through-hull fitting failed and Hard Merchandise sank at her dock. The resulting damage has been repaired and all is ready for the new season.

Of course Hard Merchandise is also well known as one of the competitors in National Geographic Channel’s WICKED TUNA series. Dave reports that he is in negotiations with Nat Geo for a third season.

Change and Conflict in the Gloucester Fishing Industry Featuring Wicked Tuna’s Dave Marciano, Lady Jane Skipper Russell Sherman

Molly Ferrill came down the dock last May. She also did a time lapse video from our dock which you can see below and went out lobstering for a day with Tommy Burns, the same Tommy Burns who took out Ben Grenon. You can see those videos below her latest.

Molly fared a whole lot better than Ben did aboard Tommy’s boat as you will see comparing the two videos.
