Bargain hunters, collectors, single moms and lovers of Cape Ann are all invited tomorrow to the Timebanks garage sale fundraiser being held on the front and back lawn of #1 Kent Circle directly across from Stage Fort Park. We will be there selling our treasures whether it is sunny or raining cats and dogs. A little rain never hurt anyone and we are hoping you will stop by between 9am and 1pm. Half of the proceeds go to Cape Ann Timebanks and half to the member participants.
Tell your friends, family and former paramours about it too….see you there! At night you can then join us at Alchemy’s relaunch party from 6-10pm. It is going to be a great weekend.

If you haven’t heard from every food blogger known to man on the North Shore there is a huge buzz about The Market Restaurant On Lobster Cove.
Due to things ramping up down the dock and a huge swell of coverage by far better writers than me I figured I leave the foodie coverage to the real food writers and get over there as soon as I could with video camera in hand to do what I like to do best- In person video interviews with pictures of people telling me what it’s all about in their own words.
Until I can get there, check out all the raving reviews this place has got from my blogging buddies in it’s short time open-
The Folks that are running the joint worked at a famous place in California named famous Chez Panisse. The local twitter foodies have been wetting themselves over the prospect of a couple of chefs from famous Chez Panisse coming home to cook for us so there must be something worth checking out. I’m looking forward to meeting them and giving y’all the inside skinny.

In order to figure out where this rock is and find the super secret message you have to see Paul Frontiero’s post about his rock. Which is still out there. Or not. Who cares about his rock. Mine is cooler and has a secret message on the back.
This is the lovely breakfast I had at Twin Sisters after not finding Paul F’s rock.
Home fries, hash, with linguica and all sorts of other good stuff and two over very easy. Anadama toast. Hey, who you staring at, ever seen a grown man play with his breakfast?

This Morning (Saturday June 5th) The International Dory Race Eliminations are being held at Niles Beach. They start at 8:30AM.
Besides being a fantastic event, it may be your last opportunity to wish Jimmy T well before he shoves off as a “fish inspector” down in the Gulf.;)
Here’s video taken just this week of the new Grand Banks Dories being built for the International Dory Group here in Gloucester. They are adding 3 more dories to the many dories that you are able to use for a simple $50 yearly fee.
There’s also a huge bell in this video which was salvaged from the Schooner Esperanto which you may find interesting.
Schooner Esperanto
From The Website of Tom Welch which has much more information here
Gloucester Fishing Schooner, “Esperanto”, 1920
Captain “Marty” Welch
The schooner Esperanto was designed by Tom McManus of Boston, built by Tarr and James Shipbuilders of Essex, Massachusetts, and launched on June 27, 1906. Esperanto was 107 feet long, 25 feet wide, and 11 feet deep. Esperanto’s gross weight was 140 tons, and her net weight was 91 tons. She was named for the international language of Esperanto, which means literally “the hoping one”.
Despite the highly dangerous nature of fishing in the north Atlantic from sailing vessels, and the terrible death toll that resulted, there was only one life lost on Esperanto. On 17 March 1916, crewman John Burnham of Gloucester was knocked overboard by the main boom, and drowned.
On May 30, 1921, just months after winning the International Fisherman’s Schooner Race in Halifax, Esperanto struck the submerged wreck of the “S. S. State of Virginia” off Sable Island, and sank. The crew manned Esperanto’s dories and rowed away, and were eventually rescued. The skipper on that trip was Capt. Tom Benham. Isaiah Gosbee, the cook from the 1920 races, was among those aboard Esperanto that day.
Attempts were made to salvage Esperanto, and she was actually raised by pontoons several times, but each time she slipped beneath the waves again. After a month of attempts, the efforts to raise her had caused such damage that the salvage operation was reluctantly halted.
This is the project in which Gloucester youth painted ceramic tiles at Glazed and the tiles are installed at Toodeloos for all to see and for years to come.
Is your child’s tile in here?

I appreciatemy GMG sticker and am proudly displaying it (of course).
As I confessed, at 83, I’m both an old AND longtime fan, but I’m not as savvy as I would like to be in using the internet….so, would you be able to help me find/see your photo of the codfish weathervane on top of Trinity Church ? In anticipation, and appreciation for all you’re doing in/for Gloucester, Ellie Cummings Sure Ellie, I’ll repost it here for you-

Some people get very upset when I post pictures of our attack kitty JJ Jinglenut’s fresh kills so I offer fair warning. Do not click on the Alvin and The Chipmunks pic If you don’t want to see the slide show of JJ’s latest victim up close and personal.
Also DO NOT CLICK HERE if you do not want to see the video of how the Bean disposed of said chipmunk.

Paul F. Frontiero, are you asleep at the wheel? Why haven’t you posted this? I am posting this out of my normal 2 PM deadline to bring you breaking news. Heather Atwood front page of “Food For Thought” has an article about Mr Joey Ciaramitaro. Oh shoot. Joey already posted this yesterday. But I think it needs to be bumped to the top again with a special underlining of the J. Crew comment.
Since it is old news I’ll add a bit more of potpourri leftovers that don’t quite make the cutoff of deserving of their own article in GMG.
1) Anyone know what’s up with Mr and Mrs Bathroom sign designating the entrance to Rockport? As marker to the beginning of summer they are usually up by mid May. Sandy, or the Rockport fairies, need to get on the stick.
2) Lattof Farm Stand (across the street from the missing signs) will be all freshly baked monkey bread opening June 25th. I will post photos of my face like a well fed hamster when I find the monkey bread.
3) Can anyone believe how toasty the water is around Cape Ann? 57F is bathwater. Jump in and lets hope this warm water doesn’t draw too much of a crowd.
4) It’s a small world after all. Or Good Morning Gloucester and our fearless leader just knows everyone up and down the east coast. Case in point: Fishing with an old friend off Woods Hole Last week and he told me the name of the tug boat he was on. He’s been based out of New York City for years. Googled the “Lincoln Sea” and where do I end up but a familiar blog, “The Tugster” who has been up to see Joey. Nice photo of the Lincoln Sea on his blog then another link I am checking out a drawing of the smaller Davis Sea on Bowsprite’s blog.
I knew he worked on tug boats but I was thinking more the quaint little dudes, not the tall monster that is the Lincoln Sea. It pushes DBL140 around so it needs a tall perch to look over that big barge.
A quick search of GMG one can find a video of Bowsprite in a bikini jumping in the water off the Capt Joe dock. Not sure what time of the year but I do not think it was bathwater. If you are male and have a pulse you will search.

I had Great Time Visiting John at his Gallery on Rocky Neck this past weekend. He is a wealth of information on Painting and the Gloucester Waterfront. If you’ve never been, put it on your “ToDo” List.
John’s there 7 days a week, All Year Long. You can usually see his Red Van or as he calls it his “Studio on Wheels” parked out front.
He has an Easel and everything else he needs for Painting in the back so he can paint in any weather conditions.Â
John is a prolific Painter and you’ll see that when you visit his Gallery.
Here are some Photos I took Last weekend at The John Nesta Gallery.
Entrance to the John Nesta Gallery on Rocky Neck
When you first step in John’s Gallery LOOK UP, You’ll see some of his old Palettes. Amazing! He only uses 3 Colors plus white.
What you’ll see when you first walk in
You gotta see this Painting in Person
Just a few of I’m sure of hundreds of John’s Paintings
Beautiful and afordable Sketches of the Cape Ann Area
The Gloucester High School Drama Program presents “The Music Man” tonight,
Saturday and Sunday.
I have been attending the Spring Musical for years and I am always astounded
by the talent of these young people. The price for adults is only $7 and kids $5 – can’t beat
that for a great night of entertainment.
Also, they had to cancel the lunch on Sunday due to lack of reservationsHope to see you there.
