Live At The Paint Factory With CK and Ian Kerr

Under Carolyn Kirk’s administration two out of three major long stymied parcels have had actual forward progress take place- I4C2 and the Paint Factory. Mac Bell buying The Birdseye parcel shows promise as well and if the administration and councilors can see the benefit of moving The Cape Ann Brewery into the Doyon’s building it will be quite an accomplishment.

Gloucester Tweetup

I have no idea how,who is going to be there, or who put it together but apparently the first Gloucester Tweetup will be held Thursday June 3rd at Cape Ann Business Incubator 33 Commercial Street.

I got a tweet about it and know the awesome people who run CABI- Erika Hansen and her husband Dave but neither of them are prolific users of twitter so I don’t know exactly what to expect.  It could be a great event if the local twitterati show up but I’m not even sure how many of the people who actually use twitter around here even know about the event or were invited to attend.

So I’ll pass this along and see if it picks up any momentum in the few short days til it’s going to happen.  To see the invitation and event details I got check out here-

Sunday in West Gloucester

I love taking rides through West Gloucester. When I drive onto Concord St. and take Lufkin or Bray, the stone walls marking property boundaries of the farms of years ago, the old homes so close to the road, the names of the roads with native language – all make it feel like time has stopped.

Toodeloos Open! 137 Main Street – Quality Childrens Toys In All Price Ranges

The tiles painted by community children are installed (look for a video including every child’s tile installed tomorrow)

DSC06885

The place is absolutely packed with QUALITY toys.  I can’t believe how much inventory they have there and the thing is it is not all the normal crappy plastic toys you see at the big box toy stores.  They have real quality toys.  You have to check it out.  There is absolutely no reason to head out of town to buy a toy.  See for yourself. Click the pictures to enlarge them.

If your child painted a tile head down to find it on the wall and look for it in the video tomorrow.

More Info From The Publisher Of John N Moris’ Alone At Sea

Hey Joey:
Thanks for featuring John Morris, author of Alone at Sea, with the photo. We really appreciate the help on this as it can be tough to get the word out on local books, even on great topics like this. (That is, Oprah hasn’t called yet…….)

Not sure if you can help a bit more, but here’s information on the book launch party on June 10; it would be great if you could get that event a little bump a day or to before. Let me know if you want photos — or you can just grab them from the web site on www.aloneatsea.com — there’s a nice slide show. it’s a good link, too.

Your help is much appreciated!
THANKS!

Mark Your Calendar: June 10 Launch Event for
ALONE AT SEA

The definitive history of Gloucester’s plucky dory fishermen

The publication of a groundbreaking work of historical research, Alone at Sea: Gloucester in the Age of the Dorymen (1623-1939), by John N. Morris, will be marked with a book launch and reception on Thursday, June 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gloucester Lyceum and Sawyer Free Library, as part of the Lyceum’s ongoing lecture series.

Morris, a prominent gerontologist, spent 10 years researching the lives of Gloucester’s dory fishermen, sparked by a personal quest to learn more about his grandfather, a doryman who was lost at sea. Beautifully written and illustrated, Alone at Sea is the most complete and compelling history of Gloucester fishing ever written. Using diaries, business records and interviews with surviving dorymen, Morris paints an indelible portrait of a key New England industry from its emergence in the 17th century to its decline in the 20th century.

John N. Morris grew up in Gloucester, the son of a man whose job was to cut fish and a mother whose job was to pack fish in boxes. He is now Director Emeritus of the Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew Senior Life in Boston. A chance connection via the Internet launched him on his quest to write Alone at Sea, published by Commonwealth Editions.

Morris will speak and sign copies of his book at the June 10 event, to be held at the Sawyer Free Library, 2 Dale Ave., Gloucester, Mass., 978-281-9763 , www.sawyerfreelibrary.org. The event is free and open to the public.

Please contact Stephanie Schorow to request a review copy or to set up an interview with John N. Morris. Learn more about this title: www.aloneatsea.com.

Thanks to the Reality Fan Forum we can identify the contestants that I captured as they embarked on the first leg of The Amazing Race 17 on our lobster boats right across from the dock here in East Gloucester.  This may help fans identify which boats their favorite teams are on as we learn more about who is who.
When you click on the first pic it will give you the super enlarged version so you can zoom in on each team

The Lime Green Team who are on the Tuna.com (a black tuna boat) and were in the lead according to my wife as they left Eastern Point and headed down East Main Street Gloucester within the first hour of the race  they were the drop dead gorgeous all female team according to first hand accounts.

The Dark Green Team of Connor Lawrence Diemand-Yauman and   Jonathan Schwartz .  Both Princeton Class of ’10, could they be Team Nassoons? (A Princeton a capella singing group). Credit to David Walter of The Ink for the COMPLETE REVEAL via Reality Fan Forum also the Blue team aboard the Karyn D (a Rockport based lobster boat) skippered by Ryan Drohan.
