Did You Know? (St. Patrick)

Saint Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people. In the centuries following Patrick’s death (believed to have been on March 17, 461), the mythology surrounding his life became ever more ingrained in the Irish culture: Perhaps the most well known legend is that he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.

Since around the ninth or 10th century, people in Ireland have been observing the Roman Catholic feast day of St. Patrick on March 17. Interestingly, however, the first parade held to honor St. Patrick’s Day took place not in Ireland but in the United States. On March 17, 1762, Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City. Along with their music, the parade helped the soldiers reconnect with their Irish roots, as well as with fellow Irishmen serving in the English army.   http://www.history.com/topics/st-patricks-day

Green represents the Roman Catholic Irish and orange represents the Protestant Irish.  To this day my mother still wears orange on St. Patrick’s Day to represent the Protestant Irish part of her ancestry.  I happen to be wearing green today because I like it and it was the first thing I picked up to put on.

St. Joseph Novena with the Orlando Family

I was touched beyond measure when Felicia invited my husband and I to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph with she and her family, and to record the traditional songs and family Novenas throughout the city.

Orlando Family Alter

Rosalie and Maryann Orlando created a stunning alter; even the curtains are color co-ordinated to match their color scheme of plum, rose, lavender, and white.

Rosalie Orlando and Felicia

Last night we recorded every song and tonight we will record the music again because the same songs are not sung every night. Then tomorrow night we will visit all the Novenas throughout the city in what Joey referred to as the “crawl’ and what Felicia calls “Italian Trick or Treat.” And then for the magnificent feast at Felicia’s home on Monday night… Stay tuned for much more to follow.

Pat, Lillian, and Phyllis sharing a joke…

After prayers and singing  a delicious supper was served, with pizza made by Joe Orlando, salad, and homemade pastries. My deepest thanks to the Orlando family for allowing me to film thier beautiful family tradition. And for the very warm welcome to their lovely home, wonderful dinner, and much laughter!

To read the extensive GMG coverage and see Joey’s videos from last year’s Novenas, go to the GMG search box and type in Novena.

Joey C Love Life Advice- Recently Divorced Wants To Meet Smart Professional Women

Recently Divorced asks-

I am recently divorced after twelve years of marriage and having trouble getting back back into the local dating scene. Do you have any suggestions where to meet smart, professional women?

This is an easy one.

First off what I would tell you is to forget all about trying to consciously meet someone.  Relationships start when you least expect it and women can smell desperation from a mile away.

Lucky for you if you live in Gloucester there are only about a bazillion different social, business and physical activities happening each and every week.  Read the Gloucester Times Event Listings, Read The GMG Things To Do Section daily found here, if you love business get involved with The Chamber or The DMO.  The main thing is to get out there, throw yourself into something you really enjoy and chances are you will meet someone with like interests when you least expect it.

Now since you are recently divorced your confidence may be slightly off and the key to meeting women (or men) is confidence.  I would suggest at the top of any list that you start a work out regimen.  Working out especially at a gym releases great hormones and will boost your testosterone levels.  You will begin to feel better about yourself as you get stronger and more fit and believe me when I tell you, nothing is more attractive than confidence to women.  Confidence is not arrogance mind you, just feeling good about yourself will do wonders when you present yourself to a potential friend or mate.

The Manchester Athletic Club is teaming with women especially around 9am when they drop off their children at school and at that time there happens to be many fitness classes that women attend.

Cross Fit Cape Ann seems to also have a community sense of friendships fostering over there.   Now remember you’re not there to meet women specifically, you are there to work out and not be the creepy stalker guy.  Forget about consciously trying to meet women, build confidence in yourself and the women will come to you.

If the arts is your thing, get involved in the many artists associations like the Rocky Neck Art Association, seARTS, take some classes, you get the idea.

The main thing is to get yourself out there , foster your passions and build up your confidence once again.

Oh and the most important of all- DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BRING UP YOUR EX.  Not in a good way, not in a bad way.  No prospective partner wants to think that you are still obsessing over a past relationship.  Don’t lie, but ABSOLUTELY DO NOT COMPARE, CONTRAST OR BRING UP YOUR EX! If asked a specific question about your ex, no matter what say something complementary and move on to a different subject without lingering on over it.  Nothing will kill your chances faster.

Let me know how you make out.

If you have a love life question you would like answered send it in to goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com  I’d be happy to answer it and it will 100% remain anonymous.

What do you guys think about my advice?  Rate it 1 star is terrible 5 stars is great advice below the comment section.

You can be in a Music Video on St. Pat’s Day!

Hollywood comes to Minglewood.  Don’t miss your chance to get in on the action!

Watch the video interview, above, with Hollywood director Brandon Rose, of Mind Venture Pictures, who’s here this weekend to shoot a music video of Rockport native Brad Byrd‘s hit song Zero to the 101, which has been featured on ABC TV’s Happy Endings.

Want to be in this music video?  Just go to Minglewood Tavern (at Lat 43) at NOON on Saturday (3/17) and you could be in the shots of the audience for the live performance portion of the video.

Primary Care Physician Suggestion

I’m looking for a primary care physician that is affiliated with either Leahy or a Boston Affiliated Hospital Like Brigham or MGH as mine is no longer working.

Anyone have a suggestion for me?  I’m paying out the butt for small business insurance so I want the best care I can get.  Anyone know a good doctor at the New Partner’s Building in Danvers across from Market Basket?

…and Paulie Walnuts, I’ll save you the trouble of coming up with a list of gynecologists, thank you very much.

Well Well Well, My Boy John McElhenny’s Company just named to Boston Business Journal’s List of Fastest Growing Boston Private Companies!!!

BBJ names 2012 ‘Pacesetters’: Boston’s fastest-growing private cos.

The Boston Business Journal Tuesday announced the 2012 Pacesetters — a list of the region’s fastest-growing privately held companies. To make the list, a company had to report a three-year growth rate of 10 percent.

“Fast-growing private companies are at the core of Boston’s economic strength,” said Chris McIntosh, publisher of the Boston Business Journal. “Our Pacesetters list is a celebration of local innovation and business leadership.”
