Heading Out- The Stanley Thomas
Men’s Seineboat Crews
…he’d pulled two men out of the sea one night
…”Years ago I heard from others
how he’d pulled two men out of the sea one night
off Eastern Point. They’d not been able to shed their jacks
when the ship went over, and when he caught them
they were going down too. He hauled them into Brace’s Cove,
even though the shore wasn’t there, it was such a storm and the sea so big
it had turned the Lily Pond
into an arm of itself.” … Continue reading

We Was Robbed Part 2, No, GOOOOAAAAAAAL!!!!! GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL!!!!! GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL!!!!!
I was all set to write “We was robbed part 2”. Again the refs seemed to not want the USA to advance. USA vs. Slovenia was going down as a 0-0 in the 91st minute. Both teams catch an early flight home with a tie. The United States and Dempsey had scored a clean goal early on but the hallucinagenic referees called Dempsey offsides although on replay he was clearly on and in.
On the left hand screens England was up one nil and the big screens USA tied 0-0. That added up to going home. But then in add-on time USA brings it down the middle, a pass, a shot on goal blocked (Algerian keeper was amazing all day) and the rebound came out to Donavan’s left foot and bang it was over. The Jerry Remy Bar and Grill was passing out these little soccer balls and I am surprised none went in the air or through the screens but the place went wild.
The Bloody Mary’s were served in smaller glasses today but they may have had the same amount of vodka. Nothing to complain about. 8)
One more time with gusto:
GOOOOAAAAAAAL!!!!! GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL!!!!! GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL!!!!!

The LARGEST Barnacles I’ve Ever Seen IN All My Years At The Dock
I never knew there was a fleshy animal living inside the razor sharp barnacle enclosures. Tuffy brought this cluster of barnacles that had grown around a black fishing net float. In many of the pictures I included a quarter so you can get an idea of the scale of these humongous creatures. I also got some pretty decent video of the creatures opening their enclosures and the organism alive coming in and out of it. It’s straight out of Aliens. There are many pictures on the Barnacle Wikipedia page but nothing like these. It is a very comprehensive wiki page and interesting reading about the life cycle, adult anatomy and fossil records of barnacles.
From Wikipedia-
Barnacle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia-
Thyrostraca, Cirrhopoda (meaning “curl-footed”), Cirrhipoda, and Cirrhipedia.
A barnacle is a type of arthropod belonging to infraclass Cirripedia in the subphylum Crustacea, and is hence related to crabs and lobsters. Barnacles are exclusively marine, and tend to live in shallow and tidal waters, typically in erosive settings. They are sessile suspension feeders, and have two nektonic larval stages. Around 1,220 barnacle species are currently known.[1] The name “Cirripedia” is Latin, meaning “curl-footed”.
Click on any of the pictures for the full sized versions- especially the first one where you can really see the moving organism. Video coming tonight
For comparisons sake look at the size of these barnacles which are more common and grow on our lobster traps. For scale the yellow wire they are attached to is less than a half a centimeter thick-
