Kristen Grieco a former writer for the Gloucester Times has a blog about The Gloucester 18 and teen pregnancy.

From the Blog-

Kristen, a former reporter for the Gloucester Daily Times, first broke the news of something strange going on with the Gloucester High teen pregnancy rate in March 2008, when only 10 girls were pregnant and rumors were surfacing of a clique becoming pregnant on purpose. She is originally from the Boston area and has an M.S. in Journalism from Boston University.

In the blog she talks about teen pregnancy in general and has interviews with Kim Daly, the nurse practitioner who was at Gloucester High when the teen pregnancy scandal broke out.

HELP HAITI – Blackburn Performing Arts

A benefit concert for earthquake-ravaged Haiti will be held at Blackburn Performing Arts, at 1 Washington St. in Gloucester, Saturday, January 23, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All proceeds and donations will be given to Doctors Without Borders, the international medical relief organization working furiously to save people on the island. A Who’s Who of North Shore musicians will perform, including Dan King and members of Safety, Henri Smith, Bradley Royds, Deb Hardy, Ian McColl, Dire Wolf, Dave Sag, Peter Van Ness, John Keegan, Renee and Joe, the Terrestrials, Gordon Baird, Shep Abbott, the Vipers, Bill Gleason, David Trooper, Lisa Landy, Uma, Tucker Lindquist, George Hall, Bonnie and Nancy, Rory O’Connell, and many others. Suggested admission/donation is $10, and additional donations will be welcome.

Live! At the Rhumb Line, this week only, something new and different: “modern” blues. Ha-Ha-Ha. Actually, I would like to introduce you-all to Mr. Evan Goudreau, young lion, glitarist, and big man on the hippocampus these days. He’s been around and plays all over the east coast, singin’ and playin’ his way to electronic stardom. He’s  all over the place on the web; czech him out!
Also joining us for the first time is Andrew Jones, on drummbs. First heard him playing with Mark Earley, so you know he’s gotta be good. Of course, Greg T. will be there with his hat and smokin’ catarrh, and myself, as well. Doo come.

Tyler Devlin is a young artist and patron of Bananas (the vintage clothing store where i work part time). When I saw him a few weeks ago I surprised him by asking his name, because I was working on this drawing (then called a face with no name). I promised to post the progress for him. it is 8×8”

Tuffy and Nate Prepare To Offload a Pile Of Lobster Gear

Here the boys are getting ready to offload a pile of lobster traps.  The cold water temperature haas made the lobstering activity slow down to a crawl and the time will be better spent fixing broken gear and making repairs than going out to catch very few lobsters this time  of year.  When the last load of traps comes in it is a big relief for lobstermen.  It’s the end of another season and hopefully they’ve made enough to carry them through the winter.

Post Office

Last weekend, I finally went inside the post office for the first time since I moved here. I couldn’t believe what it looked like inside, outside it’s obviously beautiful, but stepping inside I felt like I was stepping into Grand Central Terminal!

Cathedral Basilica Of Immaculate Conception – Castries, St. Lucia

Although we stayed up in Rodney Bay we took a taxi to the Port of Castries where the markets are and cruise ships pull in to dock.  In the center of this crowded city is this beautiful church- Cathedral Basilica Of Immaculate Conception.

It is the largest church in the Carribean measuring 200×100 feet wide.
