Abbey Mathews Represents! In Italy

Hi Joey!
The Mathews family are big fans of Good Morning Gloucester and our daughter Abbey who just Graduated from UMass Amherst this spring is spending a year in Florence Italy working on her Masters.  Here she is "representing" at the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio.    She’s already missing the Fall here…so I’m sure she’ll be looking forward to the fall pictures on GMG!
Peace!

Where’s the moon going to rise? From John Wheeler

John writes-

Joey,

It was nice to meet you tonight. Here is the web site I was telling you about.

Has you can see in the attached picture, I knew when, and where to be to get the moon between the towers. Knowing the time of the moon-rise ,and sun-set helps with the exposure of the Twin Lights. I’m still working on my settings, so I don’t over expose the moon, or under expose the rest of the shot.

I hope the other photographers find this has cool to use has I do.

The other picture is something I found on my way across the rocks, off Penzance Rd. in Rockport. I was told it is where the earth split millions of years ago, and filled in with molten lava.

Mug Up and GMG Lobster Roll Competition!!!Β at Khan Studio Good Morning Gloucester Gallery

Swing by the Gallery at 77 Rocky Neck Ave gallery G3 (On Madfish Wharf)

Meet lots of your favorite GMG personalities and enjoy free coffee, pastries and EJ’s killer deviled eggs.Β  Bring some pastries if you would like but it’s not mandatory.Β  Sometimes Paul Morrison even graces us with Monkey Bread!

On Sunday, September 18th during Mug Up, we will be holding the First Annual Lobster Roll Competition.Β  Judges for this competition will be Sista Felicia (we all know what an awesome cook and foodie Felicia is), Wendie Demuth (who grew up working for her father’s lobster business and ate huge amounts of lobster, prepared in every imaginable way), Brenda Hill (food judge for the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association, author and freelance writer from FL, originally from Gloucester) and Kim Smith (butterfly garden and lobster roll expert, who’d better show or Ed Collard gets her spot).Β  The lobster roll competition will be fierce and require special handling, so we need to have an idea of the number of entrants in advance.Β  Bun grilling can be done here at the gallery just before the entry goes to the judges, so entrants only need to bring a batch of their filling (hopefully enough to share a little with everyone after judging is complete) and their buns of preference.Β  If you are planning to enter, please reply post on the blog, or if you want to be more secretive, you can email me at khanstudio@comcast.net.Β  You might also want to put in a reservation early with Joey at Capt. Joe & Sons for your lobsters.

Runners (and those interested in running),
An email will be sent out to all registered runners sometime tomorrow in regards to the final race details. I will outline some important points below for anybody who doesn’t feel like waiting for the email. This year’s Lone Gull 10K will in fact be its final running. It has been a great five years and I really want to thank all of the runners, volunteers, sponsors, and most of all my family for helping and putting up with my September stress! So here are some details for the race:

1) Pre-race packet pickup is available at New England Running Company on Friday (10-7) and Saturday (9:30-6).
2) You can pickup your numbers and shirts on raceday starting at 7:30 AM at Good Harbor Beach.
3) You can sign up for the race on raceday.
4) There is plenty of free parking available at Good Harbor Beach.
5) We will not be holding on to shirts that have not been picked up so after the race it will be on a first come, first serve basis.
6) Good luck to all runners!!!!!

From Suzanne Gosselin-women and their boats in the news

Hi, Joey

Kudos to the youngest woman captain on the Harvey Gamage. And here’s a human interest story about another influential woman and her love affair with boats and sailing.   Emily Wick is quite an accomplished woman who has set a very high standard for those of us who have the privilege of knowing her.  Recently, Sandy Bay Yacht Club honored Emily by renaming the Race Committee boat in her honor.

Emily’s response to all the attention?  "I just wanted to have fun!"

Hope your readers enjoy this…..

Photos From Father Green

Good evening, Joey!

Like everyone else, I was saddened by the fire that destroyed a house and a store yesterday. So, I was concerned when I saw the emergency vehicles today at the corner of Hancock St. and Main St.  Fortunately, it looks like it turned out to be a false alarm. I did get a nice photo of the trucks, though.

And the view of the Manufactory was clear and beautiful in the crisp evening light.

Looking Ahead

Out at the end of Bearskin Neck, out past the Fudgery, past Helmut’s Strudel Shop,

past Bradley Wharf and Motif #1, past The Barn Gallery and The Country Store –

at the very end of the Neck where the only attractions are the harbor, the sea and the sky-

I saw a young woman and a young man sitting close together on the rocks.

They noticed only each other and that they could see beyond the harbor,

past the breakwater, past Rockport, past Gloucester, past Boston.

They could see themselves anywhere in the world under slips of silver clouds,

sitting close together by some safe harbor.
