It’s very simple, once you walk through downtown for the Block Party, swing on tdown to Lat 43 and the outdoor seating theatre which we will be creating in the parking lot facing Rogers Street.  If you can’t get a table downtown there will be plenty of hand food that you can grab and watch the free show and The Team at Lat 43 is offering food at family friendly prices-

Matt Burke From the Gloucester Daily Times Will be presenting  Awards To the top 25 Gloucester High School Gridiron Greats and we will have photos of lots of the award winners blown up 25 feet on the big screen as Matt gives out the awards.

We will unveil the 25 foot screen that Ed Collard and I conceived and Ed mostly built with help from Sista Felicia and screen Sam Hartson’s “This Is Fiesta” movie.  The Screen will be outside hoisted high up on the pilings in front of Lat 43, show footage of the blue lobsters albino lobsters, golden sea robin, Sunday Senior Seine Boat race, Friday Saturday and Sunday greasy pole footage, Monkey Balls, Craig Kimberly’s Fiesta Videos, Faces Of The Fishermen From EJ, Gloucester’s Finast Kind Calendar, and much much more.  The Outdoor café setup in the parking area in front of Lat 43 will be incredibly set up Lat 43 will be practically giving the food away and there will be adult beverage service- NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!!

Best of all 10% of all food and beverage sales goes to GFAA to help rebuild Newell Stadium.

So go the lyrics in most versions of Paul Simon’s song Kodachrome. Sad to say that the last roll of Kodachrome has been shot, developed and printed. We will all have to face the task of explaining to our grandchildren what Kodachrome and, indeed, what film, was.

However, not everything looks better in black and white.

That those good looking men (and one lovely young woman) of the sea featured in the 2012 Gloucester’s Finest Kind Calendar will also be featured on the big screen, as part of a video presentation of Celebrate Gloucester II created by Joey C., at Latitude 43 during the Block Party on Saturday, September 17 at 8:00pm?  If you’re one of the featured fisherman, their friends, family or fellow fishermen, turn out and see them on the big screen (and I mean big; Ed Collard & friends built this amazing 25’ projection screen).

2nd Annual Lanesville Music Festival FunRaiser, on Sat. Sept. 17

The Lanesville Community Center, 8 Vulcan St. Gloucester, presents its 2nd Annual Lanesville Music Festival FunRaiser, on Sat. Sept. 17 from 12:30 – 9:30. Nine hours of music by some of the North Shore’s best players: bluegrass, blues, classics, R&B, and more.

From 12:30 – 6 the setting is outdoors under tents, in the field next to the historic barn that houses the LCC, with food and beverages for sale by the Plum Cove Grind, Smokin’ Jim’s BBQ, the LCC and Fisherman’s Brew. The music includes Lisa Marie & All Shook Up; Ryan, Ortolani & Fleming; Steve Brennan; Not That Blonde; Wild Maple; and Ric Saint Germain & Friends.

From 6:30 – 9:30, kick up the dust on the new dance floor with Mari Martin & her band The Dirty Little Secrets (Dave Keon, John Hicks, Ira Levine and Ken Cleveland). There will be raffles, including a 50-50, gift certificates from local merchants, t-shirts for sale and kids’ activities. Admission is by donation to benefit the ongoing renovation of the LCC, making it available for arts and music events, as well as private party rentals – a community resource for everyone to enjoy. Tuesday afternoon as I was leaving Rockport Harbor to head back to the Annisquam River I noticed some chop off in the distance. Assuming it was fish jumping I drove over only to find a large pod of at least one hundred dolphins swimming between Rockport Harbor and the break water.

The Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan

The Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883 as the longest suspension bridge in the world (5,989 feet) and the tallest free standing structure in the Northern Hemisphere. Rockport attorney and photographer Charles H. Cleaves (1877–1937), who had interests in Cape Ann granite quarries, probably made this photograph to show how our granite was used. Although the bridge’s clearance at high tide is 135 feet, this full rigged ship still had to step her topmasts to pass through. Three tugs tow the ship down the East River and out of New York Harbor.
I have driven, walked, and bicycled over the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan, where I was born. The bridge really is a National Treasure, the Eight Wonder of the World, and I have sold her many times.
