Lobster Pie-

As you can probably guess she didn’t wrack her brain trying to figure out new and exciting ways to fuck up reinvent a classic.

Ritz Crackers Crumbled Up, Cream, Buttah and Lobster

No need to out think it

You know, lobster is cheaper than chicken.  It’s cheaper than submarine sandwiches.  It’s cheaper than hamburgers at most places nowadays.

Go to your local joint and pick up some.  I brought home 6 lbs of lobster and it could have fed 4 heavy eaters easily.

2011 Schooner Festival Fireworks Photo From Bill O’Connor

Hey Joey,

I was out on the rocks at on Wonson Cove taking shots of the fireworks the other night and was fortunate enough to get this one.  I thought I would share it as a fun way to end the summer!

Sawyer Free Library Art Auction “Spotlight”

I visited the Sawyer Free Library today and took a few photos of some of the Great Artwork that’s up for Auction There all through the Month of September. You can get a great deal on some awesome paintings and drawings from some of Cape Ann’s Famous Artists.

Here are just two of many Artists contributions  that are up for Auction at the Library.

First is David Curtis’ contribution. “Near Dunfudgin”

Here Is Ray Cranes Contribution. “Gloucester Harbor From Rocky Neck”

The Silent Auction will take place throughout the month of September in the Matz Gallery. The Live Vocal Auction will be held on October 5, 2011 at 7 pm. A Preview Party at 6 pm will precede the auction.

Did You Know? (Bloody Mary & Lobster Roll Competitions)

Another fun Mug Up was had by all.  An extra special treat showed up when Sista Felicia arrived with her amazing Caramelized Onion and Pear Flatbread Pizzas.  Can you guess whose hand that is reaching into the photo to snag the first slice?  Ed Sawicki from Mansfield, CT has been coming to Gloucester in the summer for 15 years and has been a FOB since the beginning.  He stopped into the Gallery recently to pick up a sticker and a Did You Know? book, and talk about the blog and photography and Photoshop, and then came back for Mug Up.  Irene Wisnewski, previous artist occupant of 77 Rocky Neck, G3 (now Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery) from 1979 to 1999 stopped in to join us.  More about Irene in another post.  We had a special visit from Joey’s own The Bean and Snoop Maddie Mad, who came by to represent and check out Chris Murray’s cool 3d photography with Aunt Felicia.  FOB, Leslie (Young) DeVaney, Gloucester born girl who now lives in Southern Maine but returns to “Gloucester, my anchor” every year, stopped in for a nice visit.  It was so good to finally meet you, Leslie – go home and get painting.  Paul Frontiero, Ed Collard, his daughter Amy and her fiancé Adam, the other Ciaramitaro’s (Charity, James and Laine) were here, as were Paul and Sue (Lovett) Morrison, Dr. Nicole and family, Guest Artist, Dottie Englander, Schooner Adventure’s Peter Souza, Richard and Lois Arnold from the Phyllis A. stopped in for a couple of calendars (one to send to 90 years old Phyllis, who the Phyllis A was named after), Wendie Demuth and more good and wonderful people were here.

Putting out an early announcement of upcoming competitions at the Gallery.  On September 18th, we will be holding the First Annual GMG Lobster Roll Competition, and at the Grand Finale Mug Up on October 2nd, we will be holding the First Annual GMG Bloody Mary Competition (Bob Ryan, Ryan and Woods Distilleries’ Beauport Vodka needs to be part of this).  Mark your calendars now and start working on your entry recipes.  We are also putting out calls for judges.  There are already 3 confirmed judges for the Bloody Mary competition (Wendie “It’s 5:00 pm somewhere” Demuth, Charity “I’m sweet and charming and I don’t drink, but I love Bloody Mary’s” Ciaramitaro, and Ed “No one knows a good Bloody Mary like me” Collard), but we need one more judge.

We don’t yet have any confirmed lobster roll competition judges, except Joey C.)  Now of course to create a winning lobster roll, the lobster should ideally come from Capt. Joe & Sons, not contain foreign objects like jalapenos or other strange ingredients like miracle whip or celery; however, this is a competition, and Joey will not be the sole judge, so feel free to give it your best with whatever ingredients you think make the best lobster roll.  If you believe yourself sufficiently qualified to be a lobster roll judge, please respond with your credentials asap.  There is bound to be fierce competition for these coveted judgeship positions.

Meditation for Peace this September 9 – 11

MstrJYates4webJPG

In honor of the 10th anniversary of September 11th, ACI-Cape Ann is hosting a weekend series of free public teachings called Meditation for Peace this September 9 – 11 at the Vajramudra Center, 154 Granite St., Rockport. The purpose of this weekend is to support healing as individuals and as communities by learning to take responsibility for our own minds and actions.

Leading these sessions will be master meditation teacher, Upasaka Culadasa (John Yates.)

Culadasa has been practicing Buddhist meditation for 35 years and has many years experience guiding others in their meditation practice. His intensive training in and integration of both Theravadin and Tibetan traditions provides students with a rich and rare opportunity for rapid progress and deep insight.

Culadasa and ACI-Cape Ann are offering Meditation for Peace to benefit people of all lineages, faiths, or no faith, who wish to start or improve their meditation/prayer/contemplation practice in order to become more healthy, wise, and helpful people in control of their own minds.

The event is free and open to everyone. Donations are appreciated. No experience is required. For more information on Upasaka Culadasa, please visit dharmatreasure.com. Kayaking out to Kettle Island

Yesterday my friend Walt and I kayaked (into the wind) from Magnolia Beach to Kettle Island. It’s not that far, but at high tide it seems a lot farther. Once we reached the island, we climbed the rocks like kids to the top. The view was fantastic! Coming down was a challenge and leaving the island proved to be another challenge. The wind had picked up , but we paddled hard and rode the waves back to the beach. Exhilarating!

Parade of Sail and tail-end of Mayor’s Race From Rick Isaacs

Not much happening in Gloucester these days is there?

Nothing to do, ho hum. Smile  Bahahahahahahah!

Hey you, yeah you sitting in that chair wishing you were here in the middle of the action! The fun isn’t over yet!  We still have a Block Party right around the corner and a whole lot more fun stuff coming up.  The fun doesn’t stop just because labor Day is over.  This town has some killer community event every single weekend of the year.  You need help with accommodations or finding out stuff to do?  Check out The Chamber of Commerce Website or Discover Gloucester or GloucesterMa.com to get the latest skinny on what’s happening round town.  Or of course you could check out our little ol blog.
