“What the hell is a Growler?”

That was one of the first things Sig Hansen The Captain of The F/V Northwestern on The Deadliest Catch asked the crowd when he got on stage at The Gloucester House for The Plum Cove School Charity Event.

Well my friends, Growlers are the jugs that they fill up with your favorite Fisherman’s brew at The Cape Ann Brewing Company in Gloucester’s Fort on Commercial Street.

Lobster Pulls Tail Out Of It’s Shell During Molting Process

We had a lobster molt at the dock this morning.  It’s somewhat rare so I documented it for you to see the process.  Video will be coming tomorrow morning.

Lobster Molting At The Dock Image 1

Notice the shell separate in a straight line at the top of the carapace.  You can’t see it in this picture but the tail has already withdrawn from the shell.  The live lobster is to the top in the picture and the half of it carapace shell is left at the bottom of the picture.  The lobster is barely strong enough to move.

More pics to come and video is loading.

Lobster Molting Captured for Video Here at The Dock

It’s rare that a lobster will be landed, sit in our tanks over night and then in the morning go into the molting process.

It happened this morning and I captured it in pictures and video. It will take a bit to upload but look for it later.

Lazy Daizy Restoration Update 6/17/08

Lazy Daizy Restoration Update 6/17/08.

As of today she’s still a hopeless cause work in progress. It would be great if the guy that owns this boat could con some rich folks into thinking it was a historic vessel of some sort so they could finance him and get the thing refurbished.

Maybe they could get some LNG money to bail him out. Hell the Peabody Essex Museum got some, and I don’t know what the heck they had to do with laying a pipe for natural gas transmission off the coast of Gloucester. Surely they could spare 25 grand or so for the lovely Lazy Daizy. I think the old gal could use the money. Maybe The Peabody Essex Museum would be willing to carve out $25k for this beauty of a boat. It’s a fishing boat and we need to preserve it.

I bet we could buy a whole lot of Saran Wrap with $25K. We could wrap the Lazy Daizy up in Saran Wrap and then enclose her in a lucite box and mount it on top of The Heritage Center. Yeah, that’s the ticket! Sweet!

I don’t know what the secret is at Cape Ann Coffee, but their croissants are incredibly light, airy and delicious and full of buttery goodness.  A great value at $2.75
