Who Brought the Magic for a great cause?
I don’t think that there are many individual YMCA or towns that could pull this fundraiser off so well. They don’t have Rick Doucette and the rest of the great staff in Gloucester or such a ridiculous abundance of local foodie establishments and culture. Here’s a list of Gloucester, Cape Ann and North Shore great eats and drinks establishments that participated this year:
Dazzling fine food, desserts and drinks were at every turn. Feather & Wedge, 1606 Restaurant, Mile Marker One, Classic Cooks, Azorean, Sea Glass Restaurant, and Sugar Mags served winning main dishes. To die for desserts and specialty drinks were abundant. Virgilios cannolis were gone fast!
photos: Great fun taking snapshots at all the booths. (Apologies to Liquor Locker! The only photo that didn’t come out.)
Live Entertainment – Jerome Music
Sounds of Taste of Cape Ann thanks to fine musicians were John Jerome on guitar and vocals, and Steve Jerome on drums. Cameron sat in as a back up drummer.
Wouldn’t happen without the 9th Annual Taste of Cape Ann generous sponsors:
Platinum Sponsors:Ā Institution for Savings and Cruiseport Gloucester
Presenting Sponsors:Ā Beauport Financial Services, Robert Stewart PC, Tom Davis CPA
plus all the participating restaurants, hotels, specialty food and liquor businesses, andĀ local business support for all those gift basket raffles

Thank youĀ for sharing your perspective, Larry! The collage of 8 photos is followed by the ‘read more’ link for closer inspection of each of his terrific shots. His photographs document highlights from his visit including City Hall, climbing the tower, the murals, and a Cape Pond Ice tour. The September 24th visit was a full day into night port of call, and coincided with Essex National Heritage Trails & Sails.Ā The welcome volunteers had prepared a list of things to do on that fun and busy Saturday.Ā By 1:30PM, over 1200 Holland America passengers and crew had come through Cruiseport on this second September visit. (That clicker count does not include the package tours booked in advance.)
Unfortunately, we just received word from the Holland America MS Zuiderdam that they deem the seas too dangerous. They have cancelled their call to Gloucester. Thank you all again for all your wonderful work making the passengers of the Zuiderdam fall in love with Gloucester. I heard nothing but wonderful reviews of the city and how welcomed they felt.

HowĀ exciting that Ā Holland AmericaĀ and Trails and Sailsare coming to Gloucester and Cape Ann this weekend! There are many special offers and events to help welcome visitors. This will be the second of three big cruise ships coming into port this month to Cruiseport Gloucester. ItĀ won’t leave Gloucester harborĀ till 11PM. Ā Last time I expected sight seeing, museum visits and shopping as reasons passengers disembarked.Ā They did that. If you go by the clicker counter, 844 (give or take another hundred), plus 650 who pre-booked excursions, came ashore.
I was surprised by how many passengers from a seemingly all inclusive cruise opted to take a whale watch trip and dine out. They did that, too. I’ll report back fun facts, but today I wanted to post about the special offers and events.
Working TOGETHER to welcome everyoneĀ is a beautiful thing. Thanks to the organizers (with a big shout out to Jeanne Hennessey, Joe Ciolino, Kathie Gilson, Peter Webber, Lorre Anderson, Bob Ryan and Elizabeth Carey):

CATA created a special map for continuous downtown trolley loops (“frequency is key”) and to Rocky Neck andĀ Rockport. The special pass covers their bus routes. What an incredible deal! They are extending operations until 10PM. Ā A new addition: Beauport Ambulance Services will be offering a shuttle bus for an Essex/Manchester/Cruiseport route.Ā Kathie Gilson prepared and made hundreds of copies of a lobster roll list (a big common request), special events, and the Gimme Sound music schedule.Ā Kudos to theĀ volunteers, organizations and businesses for their hard work and creativity.
And now for Gloucester downtown Special events and offers. You can click logos to follow links.

The weather will probably be great, but even if it’s not, you can party in luxury and comfort on both of the air-conditioned (or heated if need be) indoor decks with bars and dance floors.
Plus you’ll be partying with 5-time Grammy NomineesĀ Roomful of BluesĀ and cruising historic Gloucester Harbor full of tall ships on Schooner Festival Sunday! Back in 2010 we presented Celebrate Gloucester featuring Roomful of Blues at the City’s newly acquired I4-C2 property on Schooner Festival Sunday because we were told there’s nothing to do on Sunday after the race. Here we are five years later bringing Roomful of Blues back to Gloucester aboard The Beauport Princess Cruise Ship for an evening Blues CruiseĀ @ 7:30 on Schooner Festival Sunday.
The Schooner Festival has always been one of ourĀ favorite Gloucester events and we’re honored to add our little piece of cruising fun to one of the world’s major maritime spectacles!

I met a co-worker who has been gone on maternity leave this school year for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks last night at the Seaport Grille. Ā As always, it did not disappoint.
We both started with a “West End” which tasted maybe even better than it looks…if that’s possible.
We shared some oysters that totally hit the spot! Ā For dinner, she ordered the Scallop and Bacon Pizzetta and I had one of my all-time favorites….the Eggplant Panini with sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious!
While school vacation week is all about the kids…I am a huge fan of carving out some “me time” and a long talk at the bar with a good friend was exactly what I needed last night.

As host to the fantastic Taste of Cape Ann, the Cruiseport Gloucester was the place to be last night!
We went….and we tasted.
What a tremendous collection of Cape Ann’s finest purveyors, establishments, and eateries serving up some delicious food, decadent treats, and a choice selection of beverages…all in the name of a fantastic cause. Ā Can you say, “Win, Win”? Ā Many excellent raffle items also helped to raise more money and give other local businesses the opportunity to get involved in this tremendous event.
All ticket sales will go towards supporting Cape Ann YMCA Teen Service Trips to New Orleans, Navajo Nation, and Nicaragua. Ā I’m not sure I can think of a better learning opportunity for our community’s youth than providing them the chance to help communities that are in dire need. Ā It is worth mentioning that I couldn’t have been more impressed by the students that were in attendance to represent the YMCA last night. Ā They were enthusiastic, incredibly helpful, and wonderfully polite. Ā Several times throughout the evening I was asked, “Is there anything I can do for you?” and they were right there to remove plates from tables, tidy the function space, and offer friendly smiles. Ā Great job, kids! Ā Way to represent!
