Lots of stories here in Gloucester. Ever wondered how this boat ramp got its name?
I’ve been told that in the days before engines this is the point in the canal/river where you could stop poling (fudging) and sail.

Back in the old days “fudging” meant poling, as in moving a vessel with a pole. At this point , the current kicked in and the boatman was through fudging. i.e. “dunfudgin.
