Gloucester From The Paint Factory

Check out how massive the Western Venture Herring Boat is compared to The Building Center and The Old Empire Building.  It Towers over everything.  When I drive to work in the morning the lights from it’s tower light up Harbor Cove pretty good.

Rock Hopper/Roller Net

This is a roller net also known as a disc net or a rock hopper net.  This type of net is used to trawl the bottom of the ocean floor where there are rocks and rough jagged bottom which would tear the net to pieces. The discs are made from punched out tires.  They roll over that jagged bottom and keep the twine of the net just off the bottom of the ocean.  In this way the trawlers can fish in areas they never would dare to fish without the rock hoppers because they would spend a week mending the shredded net.   That rough  bottom was the type of bottom that fish used to hide, now there is no escape.

Andiamos Entree Menu

Very reasonable prices.  And it isn’t shlop, I can assure you. This is actually the type of food you would get at a North End restaurant and not a sub shop, but with sub shop pricing.

Things To Do- The Lone Gull 10K

The second annual Lone Gull 10K is September 21,2008.  I’m not a runner but from what I understand because the have such a huge sponsor in Nike, you pay $18 if you register before September 15th or $24 if you register September 15th and later for your entry fee, it entitles you to a $40 Lone Gull 10K technical jersey if you are within the first 350 people to register, and breakfast.  That’s a pretty good take my friends!

There is a sign up sheet for race day volunteers at The Lone Gull Coffeehouse in the heart of Downtown Gloucester if you would like to participate in that way.

The course starts and ends at Good Harbor Beach.

Here’s more info from the source-

Come join us for a great run in the historic fishing town of Gloucester, MA.  Race along the backshore of Gloucester and enjoy great views of the Atlantic Ocean and Eastern Point.  This scenic seaside course has slight rolling hills and is USATF Certified.  Donations and registration fees will go towards the Lone Gull 10K Charitable Trust.

Free Nike long-sleeve technical tees to first 350 registered runners!

Prize money will be awarded to the top 3 male & female runners and the top 3 men’s & women’s teams.  Merchandise awards will be awarded to age group winners.
