Call for Mug Up Competition Suggestions
This season we will be continuing the Sunday morning Mug Up tradition started last year at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery on Rocky Neck. Last year everyone who came to our Sunday morning version of church (fellowship, breaking of bread and reverence tinged with joyous fun) really enjoyed themselves, and many returned every Sunday. We held three competitions last year: The Deviled Egg Competition, The Bloody Mary Competition and the Grand Finale Lobster Roll Competition.
This year we are planning to do 4 competitions, one each month in June, July, August and September and would like your input as to the types of competitions we could have. We can repeat some of last year’s competitions or come up with 4 new ones. So send your suggestions of the types of competitions you would like to see this year. Obviously suggest things you are really good at making or are a connoisseur of eating/drinking, so you can enter or be a judge of that competition, if it is chosen.
Let the games begin.

The classic lobster roll, devilled egg, and Bloody Mary I think should stay in.
For a fourth. I can think of a few but a hometown favorite would nail each of these. Arancini, homemade linguica, coffee roll, monkey bread. Oh wait, maybe I could give myself a chance. How about smoked bluefish patè with a secret ingredient, A dog lick on top. (Which was on top of the saran wrap and not a molecule of doggy breath got on the patè but nooooo, somebody has to have a hissy fit ….. )

Bluefish pate is a definite possibility, and you’d probably win hands down, especially with those one of a kind bluefish bowls you make to present it in; but after your comment, we might have a hard time assembling a panel of judges 🙂

Count me out on that panel of judges! LOL

How about a homemade fish chowdah competition!! What could be more of a “Glostah” thing?

Love the idea of Chowdah. There is a lot of room for interpretation.

Chowder is a definite possibility. There are probably alot of people who make a mean chowdah in Glostah, and no problem finding judges.

I fourth (since it has already been seconded and thirded) fish chowder as the food product to be judged in the fourth month. It seems blue fish patè is still too controversial …

Honestly, with all the people who have dogs on Cape Ann, I don’t understand the problem with your bluefish pate. Seems some people may suffer from duck, dog and old people phobias. It probably would be easier for people to come up with fish for chowdah than the guarantee of fresh bluefish for pate.

Thanks for my morning chuckels, you guys; …always good to hear your input.
Personally, I think a Gloucester chowder would be a great addition. I might even tool on down to partake of it, and bring my own rendition!
