Will you write a letter to the editor?

Citizens for Positive Change is asking supporters to write a letter to the editor in support of a hotel in downtown Gloucester. We need to show that the small group of vocal opponents who want to hold Gloucester back does not represent the majority. Most of us want Gloucester to move forward, not backward, and create jobs and a healthy economy.

The new hotel will go on Pavilion Beach,  near where an earlier hotel stood for 65 years. It will:

• Create over 100 new full-time jobs.
• Attract visitors whose spending will strengthen our downtown businesses.
• Generate revenue for the City that can be spent on public safety and education.

To submit a letter to the Gloucester Daily Times, click here. Please write by this Wednesday, March 7,to be published before next Monday’s important public hearing.

Thank you. We need your help!

  1. I would think that Citizens for Positive Change would want to see fewer people collecting unemployment in the winter. Also, positive change does not mean additional traffic at Tally’s corner all summer long. Do you have any solutions to these problems?

  2. Very poor choice for hotel location. Visitors will not be attracted to Gloucester if it does not have an active working waterfront. Once this site moves away from ocean/maritime use it cannot be turned back. Look at Salem, Pickering Wharf, etc. The “new” harbor front hotel their continues to cry out for business (except for the Halloween period) and how many low paid jobs did that create?

    1. What? It’s one of the perfect places for a hotel. easy access to downtown. easy access to the harbor shuttle. clean up that parcel at the fort. it’s the perfect place. If the building center sisters would have decided to sell we wouldn’t have this discussion.

  3. Done. Thanks for posting this Ed.
As for Anonymous’ comments, I would think that those developing the hotel, as well as the Mayor’s Office on Tourism and other tourism related entities are or certainly should be focusing on finding ways to brand Gloucester as a year-round destination. You can’t swim, boat or such in the winter (although you almost could have this year), but this place has its own unique and incredible beauty all times of the year. A decent hotel could have the potential for drawing convention and other types of off-season visitors that would expand off-season employment opportunities and generate more winter business for existing businesses that now slumber in the winter months. An empty building has no potential to do any of that.

  4. While I support this drive to develop the Fort area 100% and improve our city overall, be advised folks, singing the petition may put you on MoveOn.org’s email list, at least it did for me. I was NOT happy to get a donation request from this organization the day I signed the petition, and I personally find MoveOn.org reprehensible in words and deeds. Not a smart move for Citizens for Positive Change in my opinion.

  5. I totally agree with you MAJack but this was the fastest way to get the word out and get a petition started. Joey was kind enough to let us get the word out about this petition even thou this is exactly NOT what this blog is about. Simply ‘unsubscribe’ to moveon.org please. If you have any problems I can be reached at housedoctor.collard@gmail.com. Thank You, ED
