If you would have told me some dude would be cruising around standing up on a surfboard on the 26th of January 5 years ago I would have told you to back away from the crack pipe.

But you know we’re here in Gloucester MA where anything is possible.

Next thing you know they’ll be riding around on these things at night with the whole thing lit up.  Crazy right?  Nope.

Peter & I will be at Minglewood Tavern for the Berklee Jazz & Roots kick-off party.  The party opens up to the public at 9 p.m. (as space allows).  The Ralph Peterson Ensemble will be on the stage.  Tomorrow they are performing in NYC so you gotta catch ‘em tonight.  They’re HOT!

Did You Know? (Golden Eye)

The black-and-white Common Goldeneye is one of the last ducks to migrate south in fall and it often will winter as far north as open water permits.

The eyes of a Common Goldeneye are gray-brown at hatching. They turn purple-blue, then blue, then green-blue as they age. By five months of age they have become clear pale green-yellow. The eyes will be bright yellow in adult males and pale yellow to white in females.

These Common Golden Eyes are hanging out with a couple of red breasted mergansers.

Congrats on the Best Blog award for GMG.
And thanks again for the attention given to the visit with Gloucester’s “Bandit Kings” on my radio show.
 
As a heads up~
For the February edition of “Having Words With Meg” , globally known singer songwriter Willie Nile will visit with me at Gloucester’s Bang A Song Studios today.
 
He is in the area to play Club Passim in Cambridge
(tonight 1/27). And he is happy to make the trip to Gloucester to do the radio interview during which he’ll play some songs.
 
He just finished the annual charitable concerts in New Jersey called Light Of Day, where he performed with Bruce Springsteen and brought the money they have made for Parkinson’s research up over 2 million dollars at this point. I will forward news about this event and Willie’s involvement.
 
Willie also recently had the National Public Radio’s NPR Song Of The Day with “One Guitar” from his new release “The Innocent Ones”.
 
Willie has been making great Rock n Roll albums since 1980, always favoring the underdog. His fans include Lucinda Williams, Lou Reed, and Springsteen.
 
This show to be recorded today here in Gloucester at Bang A Song studios will air 4 times in February on “The Loft” – channel 30 on Sirius XM Radio. As always, some of the discussion will highlight the character and charm of Gloucester.

Good afternoon pal—I wanted to see if you could help me post something to help my friend Matt Light out with his charity.  Matt currently plays for the New England Patriots and has a unique raffle for Super Bowl tickets and they are $2.00 each—(less with more quantity buy) and all is done on line.  The proceeds go to his charity—“the Light Foundation”.  I have helped Matt with his cause over the past two years and he is a very genuine person.  Can you please post this link and info to your tremendous site and hopefully one of our locals will win and go to the big game?

Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library Program: The Importance of Buying Food Locally

Hello Joey. I just wanted to remind you about the Garden to Table food fair going on in Manchester-by-the-Sea at the community center this coming Saturday from 10am to 1pm. We would love it if you could come by. We are having a panel and discussion, as well as lots of vendors from various local food sources. Hope to see you there!

Just in time for Valentines, John Wonson of Blue Gate Gardens will host a flower arranging class at the Rockport Senior Center on February 8 at 1PM. The cost is just $5.00 and you will take home a flower arrangement to enjoy. Reservations required 978-546-2573

St. Ann School of Cape Ann Open Houses

St. Ann School of Cape Ann (PK-8) invites families who are interested in Catholic education to visit an open house during Catholic Schools Week. A general open house will be held on Sunday, January 29 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. An open house for our preschool and kindergarten programs will be held on Wednesday, February 1 from 9:00 to 11:00 am.  Please see the attached flyer for more information about our preschool and kindergarten programs.
