Lin Chandler Is Confused and Disappointed

Lin writes-

Hi Joey et al,
As usual I am stunned and confused by your refusal to support any of our efforts here at 222 Arts & Wellness Center.  I submitted the details of our event a couple of times and even included a video. Don’t bother now….it’s all over and done….and we could have used your support of all of our efforts.  We may not hang out and eat at all the greasy spoons around….or hang off of greasy poles….yup, there’s a salty theme to all who are included in your inner circle.  But, we are making a difference and working hard to support ALL of the community, not just the popular ones….
We have a lot in common:   I am a sponsor and member of Cape Community Cinema, Cape Ann Chamber, Open Door Pantry, Cape Ann Farmers Market, Cape Ann Business Incubator….and a huge supporter of community events.  I volunteer a ton of time to all these same people that appear regularly in your blog…yup, I at least support you by reading your blog every day and visiting some of those folks quite frequently.  We provide a lot of free programming and also provide a great opportunity for folks to get their businesses and careers started up from the ground floor at “sliding scale” rates.  We are not revenue-neutral yet….all my massage fees go directly into bills, improvements and marketing efforts.  We are all about all the same people……and yet you refuse to acknowledge our existence.  Absolute power corrupts absolutely…..your blog, your ego & your decision who wins the popularity contest. I guess we will never quite make the cut in your salty little circle.

My Response-

Lin do you realize that if I posted every yoga center, massage therapist, acupuncturist, personal trainers , juicer machine, ect, ect, ect, that there would be no room for anything else?

Im sorry that there isn’t room for all of those people who daily send me stuff but I won’t compromise the quality of the blog and dilute it down to a health and wellness billboard and believe me if I posted everything that gets sent to me you probably would lose interest as there wouldn’t be any room for the type of content which brings our viewership back day after day.

How do I say yes to you but no to all of the other dozens of requests a day to post this stuff?

I won’t apologize for my love and vision for the blog nor will I apologize for my love of the Fiesta, or our local restaurants or art scene or our fishermen.  So Yes I guess I would definitely agree with you that there is a certain salty theme to our subjects.

As to the remark about my ego, let me tell you that this balding, fat, blind stupid guinea doesn’t consider himself all that, believe me.  I’m trying to do the best I can while juggling the blog, our business and most importantly my family.  May I suggest that you start a health and wellness blog?  You can get a free one here at www.wordpress.com  there is also www.blogger.com which costs nothing to sign up for as well.  The tag line for GMG since day 1 has been- “My View of Life On the Dock”. You could name your new blog “My View of life In the Health and Wellness Center”

I applaud all your community efforts and look, you finally made the big time, you’re featured here on GMG!

Kudos to you!

  1. Good reply. I know you can’t do everything for everyone. You have published some of my artwork and not publised others. Your price is right and, I’m very happy to have you publish what you feel your readers want. That’s what makes it a great website.

  2. *LOL* There’s no such thing as bad publicity! 🙂 Kudos to you Joey! You invite response and involvement in amazing ways and deserve commendation for that. Somebody needs to take a health and wellness positive energy class…

  4. I’m sorry that someone wrote such a comment to you when you have done so much for the city. I am on the Board for the Int’l Dories and Joey has gone out of his way to keep this tradition and others alive for Gloucester. If GMG becomes nothing but a blog that promotes certain things and gets off the “my view of the waterfront” I know that I would not be waiting for that mail at 9pm every night. Thank you for sticking up for your convictions. That was not a letter of positive karma and that’s what your blog is about.

  5. Perfect response, Joey! It is beyond hard to believe that someone involved with the heath and wellness industry would send such a note. I think someone needs to meditate a little bit more. Just sayin’. 😉

      1. Yes!! Agreed…I meditate most mornings and for me it is very calming. That’s why I suggested Lin give it a go! 😉 ps – while I’m here…more Art Rocks, pretty please! 🙂

  6. Is a blog whose title is, “My view of life on the dock,” NOT supposed to be salty? Thanks for all you do and the community you’ve built here, Joey. Don’t change a thing.

  7. Hey, by the same rationale…could you cut back on all the stinking armature art and photography. Most of it really sucks 🙂

  8. Obviously, enough people have defended Joey for all his great work, so this is probably unneccesary, but I couldn’t help but say something. Joey has such an obvious love for Gloucester it is hard to believe someone could find fault in it. He has no obligation to ANY of us. He, and his “salty” cohorts, put in alot of time and energy to keep us informed from their point of view. I don’t know you Lin, but you should start your own blog. Then you could put out there what YOU want out there. Keep up the great work Joey and all the GMG contributors!

  10. Joey, you R O C K !
As it has been said many times, it is your blog and you may do with it what you want. I can not even begin to imagine the endless hours and energy and part of yourself that you put into your blog each and every day. You’ve created a piece of work that touches so many from near and far, it is much appreciated. It never fails to amaze me the number of people who come into my shop, from across the country, who know about your blog and some of them came to Gloucester because of the blog!!!

Those of us who have been featured are grateful and appreciative of your time and attention and energy, realizing we are fortunate and not taking it for granted. Not at all. It is not my right to be in your blog. It is a gift!

And I do think there is room in this community for another blog, of another sort, to cover the plethora of events, places and goings on that simply can not make it into your blog.

    PEACE!

  11. Lin, I feel bad you let out your feelings of non inclusion on Joeys blog in such a frank way. I am pretty sure he embarrassed you but I would only take this as a learning situation…..Honestly, there is an audience for your events and maybe GMG isn’t the venue, even if you think it should be. I definately think you should consider your own blog as well and may I suggest that opening up a tumblr account is free and you can link facebook and twitter to your posts. I use tumblr for my blog http://www.gloucesterjournal.com and it automatically tweets and facebooks your posts so its easy and elegant. WordPress can be a bit difficult. Meanwhile you should also get emails addresses from all your clients and start a constant contact newsletter for your events too. This would be saavy marketing and not cost you much.
If you want me to post your health and wellness events on my blog http://www.gloucesterjournal.com please send them to me. melissaabbott109@gmail.com. I post astrological, yoga, meditation, and expanded consciousness stuff on my blog all the time and I would be very interested in posting your events which I am sure have an audience.

  12. Thank you Joey for all that you give of yourself to our blessed community. Your blog, the blog you created, provides daily inspiration and always gives pause to see the beauty in the world that surrounds here on Cape Ann—whether the beauty of barge crane hydraulic controls, the beauty in the determined face of a greasy pole contestant, or a gorgeous plate of delicious, fresh seafood from one of the many WONDERFUL restaurants you have featured on your blog. To the champion of so many and so much that is good and beautiful about our community, thank you!
