Sista Felicia Is Planning Our Assault On 2011 Horribles Parade Immortality with A Little Help From our Friends!

She was absolutely demolishing my wallet but thanks to the Lone Gull, GimmeSound.com and Ed Collard who have stepped up with sponsorship monies the sting is gone!  We have pledges to help build from Bro-In Law Barry, Sista Felicia, Ed Collard, Jeremy Frost Construction and the kids.  Paulie Walnuts will be printing up the limited run t-Shirts and Greg Harris’ Briarwood Landscaping is providing us with the trailer.  I hope to see you all on the parade route or in the parking lot tailgating!

Make sure when you see the GMG Float you give a WOOT! WOOT!

2011 Sunday Greasy Pole Gloucester Pride and Tradition!

Video From Craig Kimberley-

Craig Writes-

Just before the beach was about to fill up, and the seine boat and greasy pole finals were to begin, I happened upon Gloucester native Dominic Giovinco. I approached him and asked “What does the Fiesta mean to you?” I have to say it was a lucky moment for me and my camera, and for anyone that watches. Then we went into the heritage of the Greasy Pole and being a pole walker. Enjoy this and share alike!

Did You Know? (Horribles Parade)

That the Ancient and Horribles Parade was founded in 1927 in Glocester, RI (not Gloucester, MA) and named as a parody of the more somber Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, the oldest military organization in the United States? Calvin Coolidge, U.S. President when the parade was founded in 1927, was a member of the original Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company.  The Parade features both traditional Fourth of July floats and marchers, such as veterans and fire trucks, as well as often irreverent, satirical displays commenting on political and cultural issues, as local residents and costumed marchers parody news and cultural events along US Route 44 in Chepachet village.  Nothing is sacred as Glocester locals spoof local and national politics during the famous Ancients and Horribles Parade on the Fourth of July. The parade first wound its way down Main Street in Chepachet in 1926 and has continued to delight Glocester residents (and many others) each and every year since.

This year is the 66th Annual Fishtown Horribles Parade in Gloucester, MA, so the parade started here in 1945, 19 years after Glocester, RI had its first Ancient and Horribles Parade in 1926.

Good morning!

I would like to know if you could mention a wonderful upcoming community event on your website.  It is for a great cause. As you probably know, The Magnolia Library and Community Center is a unique community-run center.  It serves and is run by volunteers living in Gloucester .  The show is our main fund raiser for the year.  We would really appreciate it if you could mention it on your website.  Here is some information on the event.

The 2011 Magnolia Library and Community Center’s 34th Annual Art Show and Sale will be held July 8-10. This professionally-judged show is an excellent opportunity to acquire special art at a great price. The over 250 works of framed and unframed art by North Shore artists and beyond includes oils, acrylics, watercolor, photography, sculpture and mixed media. Sale proceeds benefit the artists and the Magnolia Library and Community Center.  The event kicks off on Friday July 8th with a champagne reception for artists and the public from 7-9pm. The show and sale continues Saturday & Sunday, July 9 & 10, from 10am-4pm. Artists wishing to participate and/or for more information can visit http://www.magnolialibrary.org.
