Ms Scola’s 5th Grade Class Rocks Some of Gloucester’s Best Attractions

DSCN0325[1]

Frank Ciolino writes-

Hi Joey I just want to tell you what a great day I had with my daughter Mikayla’s 5th grade class from Plum Cove with Ms Scola. First we went to the Cape Ann Museum (One of my favorite places) and spent some time in the Fitz H.Lane room. Then upstairs where we learned about the life of Howard Blackburn .Then off to the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon where Capt Tom and his crew told stories and taught us how to tie knots and other lessons. All the kids got to steer the boat. A real treat for all.If there is anybody that has NOT been on the Lannon yet this is a must you will not regret it.I’m sending a couple of pics One of Ms. Scola’s class and one of Mikala at the helm. Thanks I will see you later…………Frank

My quest for today….

Now that I have finished the 2011 calendar 🙂 and it’s ready to print, I’m thinking maybe a Cape Ann lighthouse calendar would be cool. So today I’m doing research. Any less obvious ones that I might miss?

Thanks!  —-Sharon

Seal Sunning Itself At The Dock

Yesterday Ed Collard spotted a seal sunning itself on a camel at our dock.  The very camel that the Mellissa K ties up to.  It was incredibly relaxed even as Ed and I approached it to take pictures and videos.

Look for the video tonight at 6PM

153 Miles and and 18 Hour Steam Dave Jewell and Crew Land Two Fat Bluefin Tuna

Heading out a couple of days ago Dave and his crew head out for an 18 hour steam of  153 miles to catch themselves a nice pay day. One 800 lber and one 650 these tuna will command a nice price in Japan.

When Dave headed out he was a bit nervous because where they have to go to catch these fish it’s a long way out and there’s no place to run and hide if a storm whips up.  It is where there are warm ocean currents and cold water intersecting and it can produce nasty storms seemingly out of the blue and without much warning.

Video coming tomorrow

Giuseppe’s Music

Hey Joey,

We realize alot of folks don’t know, but aside from our weekend Piano
Bar with my Joe, we have acoustic music every Sunday from 7pm-10pm
with a great lineup of musicians.  Our entire music schedule is posted
on http://www.Gimmesound.com under "Giuseppe’s Ristorante and Piano Bar",
which includes first Wednesdays of every month at 8pm, Brian King and
Joe Thomas as "True Vintage Duo" (www.truevintageduo.com) (Brian
sings, Joe plays piano, it’s been a ton of fun).

This coming Sunday, September 26th, we have a great musician and
singer, Quill (Jesse Ciarmataro) coming to play a solo. He is usually
with a band when he has played around Gloucester.

I was wondering of you would mind posting these two posters if you get
a chance before the weekend?

Celebrating the Guitar: A Masters Showcase ~ Save the date

Larry Coryell is one of the world’s acknowledged guitar masters. He has recorded more than 75 albums over the past 40 years as a bandleader, soloist and ‘featured accompanist’. Hailed by his legion of fans as one of “the guitar gods” in the late 1970s and as a “truly Renaissance musician who excels at all styles of playing”, he has also been christened as “a true pioneer of rock-jazz fusion” by the New York Times, and dubbed “the Godfather of Fusion” by Dan Ouellette of Down Beat Magazine.  Ken Bonfield ha s toured nationally since 1994, has released 5 solo albums and 2 duo albums with violinist Joe Ebel, Steve Davison released his national debut “White River Suite” in 2010.   Together, Bonfield and Davison are touring with Artistry of the Guitar.

Tough! Richie Cassola Keeps Right On Hauling Lobster Gear With A Fish Hook Stuck In His Finger

It’s one thing to get a fish hook embedded into your finger and stop working to take the thing out but retired Beverly Policeman Richie Cassola strapped on a Band-Aid and kept on working ‘til the last pot was hauled.

That’s Toughness Folks!  He says he kept hauling because he knew we needed the lobsters.  I say it’s because he just loves being out on the water.
