Took this photo from Dolliver’s Neck. This ship is almost 1,000 ft and carries over 2,000 passengers and almost a $1,000 crew. It certainly is huge.

Late Sunday afternoon
After a very successful There’s More to Sea Art Show at Ocean Alliance, ( The Paint Factory), the sky was so awesome and there was a small cruise ship, I think it is the American Glory, leaving port. The Beauport was also was cruising Gloucester’s Beautiful Harbor.
Gloucester photos from Zuiderdam cruise guest Larry Stock!
Thank you for sharing your perspective, Larry! The collage of 8 photos is followed by the ‘read more’ link for closer inspection of each of his terrific shots. His photographs document highlights from his visit including City Hall, climbing the tower, the murals, and a Cape Pond Ice tour. The September 24th visit was a full day into night port of call, and coincided with Essex National Heritage Trails & Sails. The welcome volunteers had prepared a list of things to do on that fun and busy Saturday. By 1:30PM, over 1200 Holland America passengers and crew had come through Cruiseport on this second September visit. (That clicker count does not include the package tours booked in advance.)

Super special offers September 24 Holland America Cruise Ship and Trails&Sails
How exciting that Holland America and Trails and Sails are coming to Gloucester and Cape Ann this weekend! There are many special offers and events to help welcome visitors. This will be the second of three big cruise ships coming into port this month to Cruiseport Gloucester. It won’t leave Gloucester harbor till 11PM. Last time I expected sight seeing, museum visits and shopping as reasons passengers disembarked. They did that. If you go by the clicker counter, 844 (give or take another hundred), plus 650 who pre-booked excursions, came ashore.

I was surprised by how many passengers from a seemingly all inclusive cruise opted to take a whale watch trip and dine out. They did that, too. I’ll report back fun facts, but today I wanted to post about the special offers and events.
Working TOGETHER to welcome everyone is a beautiful thing. Thanks to the organizers (with a big shout out to Jeanne Hennessey, Joe Ciolino, Kathie Gilson, Peter Webber, Lorre Anderson, Bob Ryan and Elizabeth Carey):

CATA created a special map for continuous downtown trolley loops (“frequency is key”) and to Rocky Neck and Rockport. The special pass covers their bus routes. What an incredible deal! They are extending operations until 10PM. A new addition: Beauport Ambulance Services will be offering a shuttle bus for an Essex/Manchester/Cruiseport route. Kathie Gilson prepared and made hundreds of copies of a lobster roll list (a big common request), special events, and the Gimme Sound music schedule. Kudos to the volunteers, organizations and businesses for their hard work and creativity.
And now for Gloucester downtown Special events and offers. You can click logos to follow links.

Live blogging- passengers come ashore in Gloucester from Holland America cruise ship Zuiderdam.
Happy travelers are such a joy! Meet Dean and Cathy King from Adelaide. They went to Washington and New York where they caught this Holland America cruise to Canada. They said the entertainment director outlined the demographics: 110 Aussies, 700 or so Canadians, 700 or so Americans, many countries represented by 10+ passengers and 13 New Zealanders, “to be precise.” They were squaring away their plans in Cruiseport until an 11:45AM tour to Rockport, and later walking downtown Gloucester. Their friends signed up for an 8AM tour. I spent time in Adelaide and loved it. I hope they have as great a time here, and memorable trip all around.
Before reaching Cruiseport, passengers like the Kings are shuttled ashore by tender boats.
The tenders hold more people than you think!
As they came ashore they were greeted with soaring vocals of Three Sheets to the Wind.
What a reception! Many visitors stopped to take their photo.
Passengers stream upstairs to happy greeters.
The lines ebb and flow with every tender.
Maps and brochures are selected as passengers head outside to enjoy a day in Gloucester and Cape Ann.

Happy helpful greeting at the CATA table. How could it be otherwise–Heidi Dallin!
Passengers heading downtown on the CATA trolley while others stand waiting for a CATA scenic bus.

You must have a ton of these by now, but I did post this one on my twitter, saying if you didn’t go to Gloucester today, this is what you missed! I had a great day in Gtown. Went to Rocky Neck and saw EJ, bought olive oil and balsamic vinegar from Cape Ann Olive Oil Co., had lunch at Lobstaland. It is sooo wonderful to play tourist in the hometown. How much did these ocean travelers pay to get to Gloucester? Genie

Holland America Cruise Ship Eurodam Coming to Cruiseport Sunday, September 16
Peter Webber writes-
Good day. I am writing today to remind everyone that the next major cruise ship of the season will be arriving in Gloucester Harbor on this coming Sunday, September 16: Holland America’s cruise ship the ms Eurodam, with a capacity of 2104 passengers. Once again the Chamber will be working together with the city of Gloucester’s volunteer welcoming committee and CATA to welcome and guide Eurodam’s passengers as they disembark and arrive at the Cruiseport terminal. The first tenders carrying passengers from the ship are expected to arrive at Cruiseport at approximately 9:00 am Sunday. Many will board motor coaches for planned excursions to various locations, while many others will be guided to CATA trolleys and buses for transportation to downtown Gloucester and Rockport.
Please note the attached “Welcome Eurodam Passengers” flyer, which we encourage you to print and post at your place of business to help give the Eurodam passengers a hearty Cape Ann welcome. I have also attached a flyer featuring several upcoming Chamber and community events scheduled for September and October, including next Tuesday’s (September 18) sales seminar with author Marc Wayshak at the Elks at Bass Rocks, beginning with check-in at 7:30 am. Please contact the Chamber today to reserve your place. Best regards. Peter
Welcome Eurodam Passengers
Bob Hastings From The Chamber writes-
Ahoy Gloucester! The Holland America Eurodam is arriving tomorrow morning, Tuesday October 18th. The first passengers are anticipated to arrive onshore at Cruiseport between 7:30 am – 8:00 am. There will be approximately 2,000 passengers coming to our shores. Let’s give them a warm Gloucester welcome.

FOB Cynthia Hill Takes Some Pics of Gloucester FROM The Seven Seas Navigator Cruise Ship
By now we’ve seen many fantastic cruise ship pictures of the boats but here’s what the passengers of these cruise ships see when they enter Gloucester.
Cynthia writes-
This is a wonderful ship, and what I think is the best cruise line afloat. Great fares – not inexpensive but completely inclusive – air, liquor, shore excursions, and gratuities! May seem high but when you look at what you spend on other lines with the nickel and diming that happens you actually save money. The only extra charges are for Canyon Ranch Spa Afloat….We’re not talking Carnival here, Regent is certainly high-end, but that said – it consistently offers the very best bang for the buck….did I mention all cabins are suites with walk in closets, a tub and shower in the bath, and almost all have balconies.
Thanks for letting me brag about this cool company!
Cynthia
