Hi Joe,
I am the Gloucester Conservation Agent (I’ve been here for a year–is that still considered new?). The Gloucester Conservation Commission is hosting a "Living in Dunes" workshop at City Hall on September 29 at 7pm. I have attached the poster, but was hoping maybe you could help us get the word out through Good Morning Gloucester.
It is geared toward helping those who live in the Wingaersheek Rd/Coffins beach area and the Gloucester end of Long Beach and are thinking to build, add on,, create a driveway, upgrade their septic, etc… This is free and will help them understand what it means to be in a dune.
We have a great set of experts speaking–a coastal geologist, a land use attorney and an environmental scientist. They are listed on the flier.
Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!!!

Hi Joey!
How are things going down at the Dock?? Let’s get coffee soon and catch up!
I’m wondering if you could do me a huge favor. I’m trying to sell a couple bikes, and was wondering if you could put an announcement on GMG for me? I’m not sure you do that sort of thing, but I thought I’d ask.
I’m including the pictures of them, and you can tell people if they’re interested then send me an email: charleebeth@gmail.com
Greatly Appreciative! and let me know when you’re free. I should be around this week if you want to hit up the Gull!

The green bike is only a few years old, and in absolutely perfect condition–not a spot of rust on it. I’m trying to sell that one for $300, but am flexible. The red bike is a bit older but still rides very well. I’ll sell that at $200, again flexible.
Here is a video of Cahrlee conducting an interview with your boy Joey before she left for China last year.
Hi Joey,
I work at the North Shore United Way and receive Google Alerts for Gloucester since it is a community we serve. I’ve noticed your blog posts and thought, for once, I’d submit something in case you are interested in featuring it.
On September 30th at Cruiseport in Gloucester we will be honoring Jack Meany, the CEO of the North Shore YMCA, for over 25years of his dedication and leadership within our North Shore communities. Jack actually started his career at the Cape Ann Y and then moved on to become to CEO for the North Shore YMCAs. I’ve included below an article in the Gloucester Times about the event. Tickets are available on our website and can also be purchased at the door: http://www.nsuw.org/LULA.html.
Thanks very much for your time.

Delineation Lime, by Anne Krinsky, acrylic on panel, 24” x 24”
Printmaker Anne Krinsky is the third Goetemann Artist in Residence for 2010. If you missed her opening talk you can still meet her and see her work during her Open Studio hours this weekend and next weekend. Hours will be posted on the sandwich board outside the Residency Studio at 51A Rocky Neck Ave.
Anne Krinsky makes grid-based works on paper and panel that occupy a middle ground between painting and drawing. In them, a delicate linear geometry is alternately overlaid with, or superimposed upon, translucent layers of acrylic color. Her panels are built up over time with thick swaths, splotches and drips of candy-colored paint. She subsequently sands these down to create a seamless seductive surface — a visual representation of a present moment shaped by prior experience.
Her upcoming show, Anne Krinsky: Time / Line, 2000 – 2010, opens in October 2010 at the Trustman Gallery at Simmons College in Boston. Krinsky’s layered acrylic paintings are in the collections of the British Museum, the Boston Public Library, Graham Gund and the UK charity, Paintings in Hospitals. She holds a BFA in Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and is represented in Boston by Soprafina Gallery.

Pictured above are some of the images that will be displayed in the Best of Rocky Neck Members Exhibition.

Hi Everyone ! As many of you know, Lauren and Ted have sold their business and the building to a nice couple from Ohio, who had a coffee shop there. They seem like very nice people and intend to keeping things going as Lauren had before; and later add their own touch. I thought it might be nice to acknowledge their efforts and uplifting presence in our neighborhood through a card ( which Brenda will be making !) and flowers . Lauren’s last day is Sunday ; they’ll be closed Monday , and the new folks will open Tuesday. The card will be at Brenda’s to sign , and an envelope for donations towards the flowers (like a few dollars). Ted and Lauren turned down 3 potential buyers to sell to someone who would keep The Last Stop going – an admirable move ! He said that he hopes everyone will come down and say hello to the new owners – Sandy and Jean , ( and I believe their son’s name is Dave), and make them feel welcome. Thank-you! – Margi

John Todd Writes In-
Joe,
I forgot to mention when I offloaded yesterday that I had caught an albino lobster in the harbor. I took a few photos with my phone that I thought you might like to see and maybe post on the GMG page. I was going to bring it in but just after I took the last photo a homie dove down and grabbed it off the table, probably thinking it was something other than a lobster due to it’s color. It dropped it just off the back of the boat and out of reach, although I think it was short anyhow. I looked it up and they said it is as rare as 1 in 100 million. I know you had one a while back from Mike Tupper so perhaps they aren’t so rare or they just like to come to Gloucester for the hospitality!

1-6pm. Five hours of great music performed by some of the North Shore’s best.

Last minute shout out, that Kingsley Flood will be playing The Rhumb Line tonight from 9:30 pm to 12:30 am
I absolutely love Kingsley Flood and have since the first time I got to hear them play. They bring something new to the plate American Roots ( lively folk) with a little bit of a country thing going on. You have to admit there is some pretty fine knee slapping music here. I got the CD “Dust Windows” a while ago and played it over and over again, also sharing it with others. They seem to like it a lot. I personally think they have a masterpiece here. When you can listen to it in the car for over and hour singing along it’s great. My favorite songs are and it’s hard to choose from them all Cul de Sac, Back in the back, Devil’s arms and When I grow up. They seem to get me to the dance floor a lot faster than the others. Listening to their CD it’s like everything is in the right place, especially the fiddle. Check out their songs I am sure that you will agree. http://www.myspace.com/kingsleyflood
Come out and treat yourself to some real fine music.
Joanne

No, not MY Mum, the fantastic Sue Lufkin, but chrysanthemums–and they are lovely, just like my Mum! Did Fall come too fast for you to get your mums yet? One day it was Summer and then BAM–Fall!
Anyway, the Essex Merchant’s group is holding their annual “Mums The Word” campaign to not only bring added beauty to our lovely town with the addition of flowers everywhere but to raise a few dollars for the group as well.

Last night a hardy group of citizens braved the wind and showers to raise a glass to kick off the “Mums the Word” campaign and help with the pick up of some of the pre-order flowers–but there are lots and lots of lovely plants, just waiting for YOU!

So here’s the deal. Stop by Joshua’s Corner–it is the shop with the gold trim up on the hill on the corner of 133 and Southern Ave (the road to Manchester) and purchase your mums during store hours, 10-5 daily and 12-5 on Sundays. Mums are $3.95 for 1-20 8″ pots or $3.50 each for over 20 plants.
As you can see by my pictures, the plants are gorgeous and ready to go, full of blooms to provide color for your yard and neighborhood. Pick up a few for a friend who needs a little cheering up and leave them secretly on their front steps. Decorate the little island at the end of your street or fill a neglected planter that passersby will notice when driving along the road.
Spread the Love, buy some Mums—–remember…..Mums the Word!
