Anyone Know Of A Seagull Banding Program? This Seagull Had a Band On Its Leg Reading OK9

This seagull was on the front of our dock and luckily I whipped out my hog cameraphone and was able to get some shots which blown up gave the ability to view the code on the tag.  Only problem is I can’t tell where to report it to.  It’s obviously part of some scientific tagging program but I just don’t know which one.  Any help or if someone knows, pass the link to this post along to that outfit.

the band is Black  with white inscription reading OK9. You can click the pic for a larger view of the band on it’s leg.

Pop Gallery Encaustic Artist Linda Cordner Video

Interview With West End Gloucester MA Pop Gallery’s Linda Cordner,
http://www.lindacordner.com/

This from Linda’s Website-
The word Encaustic, from ancient Greek, means “to heat” and that is the basis for encaustic painting. Wax, primarily bees wax, with or without added pigment and mixed with a small amount of damar resin, is heated to a liquid state and applied to a ground with brushes. Painting is done quickly, as the wax starts to harden as soon as it is separated from its heat source. Each painted layer must be fused to the next to create a solid piece that becomes the encaustic painting. It is one of the most durable painting mediums since wax is impervious to moisture and over time will retain its original colors.

Artist Statement

I am very drawn to wax and its tactile qualities, the smell and viscosity of the medium are very different from other painting techniques. Creating organic forms is a natural extension of wax’s origin. Coming from a background in graphic design, I am drawn to certain color schemes and shapes, the repetition and placement being important to the composition. My paintings are made by layering multiple coats of wax which can completely obscure the under layers at times. I then scrape away areas of the wax to expose the compositions below.

Pop Gallery is located at 67 Main Street in between Dog Bar and The Bookstore of Gloucester in what many are beginning to call Gloucester’s “Artist Row”

Thursday Night Blues Party at The Rhumb Line

Every time I get an email from Dave, I crack up laughing and want to show the world. GoodMorningGloucester is the next best thing to doing so. What a riot!

Here are a few words from Mr. Dave Sags.

Wed, August 18, 2010 10:24:37 AM
This weekend

.

This thursday at the Rumline: the triumphant return of Mr. Jim Scoppa, headstrong harridan and glitarist x-troidinaire. Only surviving member of the famous band: T.H. and the Wreckage, the remainder being incarcerated for attempting to purchase an albino drummer slave in Africa. Wit,chops, and derring- doo doo describe Jim to a tee, makes Clapton sound like Tiny Tim. You gotta see this.
And, bracketing him from behind we have our ever-lovin’, Diesel stompin’ drummnist, Mr. Benny Benson, fashion plate and  Hibernian from Hell. Just love this guy! Fires at a rate of 600 rounds a minute. Of course, Greg “Whammy Bar” Tower will be there, trying to sneak in more Speedy West lix, and me, too, if I can find the place…
AND, ON FRIDAY NITE: It’s the Geezerz, once again, at that venerable venue: The Studio on Rocky Neck. Must I say it again?  A bubbling broth consisting of equal parts of Dave Brown, Dave  Stig-Mattacks, Greg Tower and myself, bringing in all the latest news from Mizar 5. No cover, no minimum,no fair, and no backsies. New hours, too: 8 pm till 11 pm or so, depending on survivors. Drink up!!
