I’ve been shooting Gloucester folks for many years. Here’s a look at the faces around town. It’s a slide show so click on Bob, and ENJOY!
The herring have been scarce so the big boats have been going all the way to George’s Bank to try to find them with no luck in the past two weeks. That means they have been burning a ton of fuel as the herring boats are gigantic vessels.
We’ve been filling in by using pogies for lobster bait which are not nearly as much fun to handle. They break down much faster and they produce this incredibly slick oil which gets all over the floor and everywhere making it a PITA to use. Beggars can’t be choosers though so whatever it takes to get our lobstermen out fishing is what we will try to provide.

Music at the Cape Ann Museum on Fridays at Noon
The Cape Ann Museum is pleased to present free noontime concerts in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden on Fridays during the month of August. Performers for the remainder of the month will be James White on August 21 and The Aspidistra Drawing Room Orchestra on August 28.
The Pleasant Street Tea Company and Lark Fine Foods have generously donated beverages and cookies for these events. In the event of rain, the performances will take place inside the Museum.
James White, now a resident of Gloucester, is originally from England. He has been writing music since the 1970s, playing and performing in both Europe and New England as well as doing session work with his first instrument, the electric violin.
The Aspidistra Drawing Room Orchestra is based in London, England. The orchestra specializes in the type of light classical music from the late nineteenth, early twentieth century that is usually referred to as Palm Court Music or Salon Music. The ensemble consists of a string quartet, piano, flute and oboe.
Funding for this program was made possible through a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, which promotes excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences, in order to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and to contribute to the economic vitality of our communities.
The Cape Ann Museum is located at 27 Pleasant Street in Gloucester. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Museum is closed during the month of February, on Mondays, and on major holidays. Admission is $8.00 adults, $6.00 Cape Ann residents, seniors and students. Children under 12 and Museum members are free. The Museum is wheelchair accessible. CELEBRATE THE CLEAN HARBOR SWIM on Saturday, August 22, starting from Niles Beach. Swimmers assemble on Niles Beach and swim a triangular course and return.

History
In 1979, four Cape Ann residents swam across Gloucester Harbor in protest of its polluted status. It metamorphosed into an annual Audubon Society-sponsored event to help raise funds for cleaning the harbor, hence named “Swim for a Clean Harbor”. In 1993 the harbor was deemed clean by the Audubon Society. Local resident Richie Martin stepped in to keep the event running and the 1.2 mile deep water swim, now known as “Celebrate the Clean Harbor Swim” has become a summer favorite for swimmers from all over. The event is currently sponsored by NEMSA (New England Marathon Swimming Association).

One of the Mrs’ good friends recently had a baby so she whipped up a batch of lobster and corn chowder and brought some over to her last night. I got a bowl for myself too. It was decadent.

Well, this post was supposed to be a shortened version of my slide show “Express Yourself, Gloucester” that we showed at the Block Party, BUT of course the conversion program that I use decided to change their format and it crashed my computer 3 times. So Joey said to try Youtube instead.It didn’t like my password, so I had to create another account. Uploaded the video. They can’t publish it because I used the song “We are Family” and it’s copyrighted.

Kat Valentine contacted Jay Albert from CapeAnnImages and I about a project she volunteered to do for the City when the Tourism Director’s job was axed. She designed a beautiful site for Gloucester Tourism and needed some content so I was happy to oblige by providing photos. Jay provided his photos as well and there have been a bunch of more folks that love our community that have donated stories and more content since Kat went live with the site.
