Do you see the cage around the Janel Leigh’s propeller? That is put on many lobster boats so that the propeller doesn’t suck in the lobster pot lines that might get wound around and either snap the shaft which drives the propeller or or bring the boat to a halt.

Frank hauled her out to do some work on the propeller cage. She should be back in the water today and out lobstering tomorrow. Just like that.

I decided to mess around with some editing software to give the original picture shown below a couple of different treatments. Which do you like the best?

Now you know!
But first you have to read this very descriptive, funny (but very wrong) answer from paultmorrison-
“A granite pier with a high tide line then3 feet of freshly laid granite block above granite bricbrack with a nice colorful mural with a tail fin of a humpback or is it Thatcher Island and light streaming out of one of the lighthouses?
That must be sunrise just to the right of the light house so it has to be Thatcher painted from Good Harbor Beach or more east.
Or Ten Pound lighthouse and it’s sunset. Everyone thinks only sunsets are orange so I go with Ten Pound Island Light.
I will take a guess at the wall of the aquarium down at the Maritime Museum.”
Here’s this week’s winner-
Kay Ellis of the Lannon!
“It’s down the fort. Looking at the corner of the mural. We go by it every day on the Lannon!”
Congratulations, Kay! Come down to Joey’s dock at the end of the week and claim your prize!
Jay- You really didn’t know? You’re the one who pointed it out to me !! —Sharon

Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ the Rhumb Line
Back by globular demand! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Lisa Marie! That’s right, folx, no tickee, no laundree, so get your butt down here Thursday and shake your booties to the booty bleat.
I don’t have to tell you about her smood singin’, her brash blaring, her total control of da megaphonium of de blooze. Plays a mean tambourine, too, or three. It’s gwine be a party to end all parties!
Backing her up will be long-time missing saxaphonier and general cooldude, Mr. Rick Razdan. We haven’t had the pleasure in a long time as he has been recovering from botched weenis cosmetic surgery. However, we now got the green light! Greg T. will be there, too as well as myself.
So, put down that knitting and grab your walker and c’mon down…if you still got the strength…

Hello,
In case you’re not in the loop, it’s a big week for us at the Cinema:
* Tonight, we’re officially kicking off (though we’ve been open since July) with a Grand Opening. Bring kids at 5:00pm for free face painting and a “Wallace & Gromit” marathon (including the new short, “A Matter Of Loaf And Death”). Doors for the grown-ups open at 6:30pm, with a meet-and-greet-and-gawk (I’m wearing the kilt). I’ll present a season preview at 7:30pm, and anyone who wants to stay for a hi-def trip “Over The Rainbow” can stay when we sit for a flick around 8ish.
* Thursday, October 1st is the launch of “DoctoberFest,” our own 32-day celebration of documentary films. We have 30 features, about a dozen special guests, two musical events (including a silent movie show with live piano accompaniment) and we’re opening Michael Moore’s new movie Capitalism: A Love Story on October 16th. Doors open at 6:30pm, festival preview at 7:30pm, and a (ticketed) screening of The Way We Get By ’round 8:00pm.
Click on the link below for more information about our line-up.
Maybe I’ll see ya…
🙂

I had an idea to add a new feature to GMG- a Google map with locations around Gloucester which offer free wireless internet.
So I did a little research and there is this website which maintains a database of free wi-fi locations around the country. www.wififreespot.com
It’s a nice listing but it only had The Lone Gull and Cape Ann Coffee listed. I emailed the owner oif the site and told them about two other locations that I knew of that offer free wifi- Pleasant St Tea and Coffee Company and Cape Ann Brewing. The form to submit more locations says that the database gets updated every few days or so. Hopefully the new locations show up soon.
In the meantime I’m going to start to build a public google map which will list Cape Ann free wireless internet spots. i’m asking for your help. If you know of any locations around Cape Ann that have free wifi, please leave a comment here and I’ll add them to the map. Thanks!
