Chronicle has been a popular news magazine TV show focusing on stories of New England for 35 years. Weeknights at 7:30pm on WCVB-TV Channel 5 Boston.
The award-winning Woman Owned Businesses Along the Essex Coastal Byway is comprised of local women retailers and colleagues from Gloucester, Essex, Ipswich and Rowley. They are working together to market their businesses and began work on a great trail map brochure last spring. Their street level shops represent 4 cities and towns, and share a regional ‘Main Street’ – Route 133/1A, part of the gorgeous 90 mile Essex Coastal Scenic Byway. They’ve inspired other routes and articles, and now Chronicle. Congratulations to all!

The highest price an auction buyer paid becomes “fetched” in auction lingo. Leonardo da Vinci painting, Salvator Mundi, (Saviour of the World) fetched a stunning world record price –400million dollars at hammer price (450.3 million with fees)–at Christie’s evening sale November 15, 2017. Couldn’t resist adding a classic Larson into the mix of headlines.

I don’t think that there are many individual YMCA or towns that could pull this fundraiser off so well. They don’t have Rick Doucette and the rest of the great staff in Gloucester or such a ridiculous abundance of local foodie establishments and culture. Dazzling fine food, desserts and drinks were at every turn. Feather & Wedge, 1606 Restaurant, Mile Marker One, Classic Cooks, Azorean, Sea Glass Restaurant, and Sugar Mags served winning main dishes. To die for desserts and specialty drinks were abundant. Virgilios cannolis were gone fast!

The Annual Christmas Fair & Luncheon and the Annual Plant and Gourmet Food Sale raise funds to support scholarships for graduating seniors who are going on to college, training for a trade or other educational opportunities and community projects on Cape Ann, for example: The Open Door Food Pantry, Backyard Growers, Cape Ann Animal Aid, Pathways for Children.
The Annisquam Sewing Circle was begun in 1837 as the Annisquam Female Benevolent Society. It is thought to be the oldest continuous independent society of women on Cape Ann.
The Society’s purpose as stated in its Preamble, was “for the performance of acts of benevolence.” Through the years, the Society, and now the Circle, has contributed generously to community programs and to individuals.

Featuring original illustrations from Virginia Lee Burton’s classic 1939 book Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, and antique toys from the museum’s collection, we have it all when it comes to construction: vehicles, building blocks, Erector Sets, puzzles, LEGOs, and more! There are also original illustrations by two current artists: Chris Van Dusen’s books If I Built a House and If I Built a Car, and Brian Lovelock’s books Roadwork, Construction, and Demolition.
Plus, dig out some toys and materials to create your own constructions right in the gallery! Get on a digger and move stones in the pit, put together amazing creations from Lincoln Logs, building blocks, LEGOs, and more, and try your hand at building a book to take home with you!
On Sunday, join us for our exhibit opening party where there will be lots of hands-on construction opportunities including creating your own road and working on our community building project. Virginia Lee Burton, children’s book author/illustrator, Folly Cove textile designer and founder, resided and worked in Gloucester, MA, where she created some of America’s most popular and classic children’s picture books. Burton’s characters and stories have been enjoyed by children of all ages all over the world. She received the Caldecott medal in 1943 for The Little House. Other books include Katy and the Big Snow and Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel.

Projects by Beeman Memorial Elementary School (Gloucester) students will be on view in the CAM Activity Center throughout the month. The show is curated by Art Specialist Anne Pieterse BFA/MAT and student teacher Lindsay Smith who is earning her BFA in Art Education at Montserrat.

Crazy good and ambitious programming at Cape Ann Cinema. The 8th Annual documentary film festival opened with California Typewriter, featuring a LIVE performance from the Boston Typewriter Orchestra; the festival closes tonight with Tab Hunter in the house for the 7:30 special screening of Tab Hunter Confidential.

Worcester, MA, is the place where Candlepin started, mid 1800s and roughly the same time period as interest in golf spread. Unlike golf which spread everywhere, candlepin stuck around New England. Some people feel that’s because it’s harder than 10 pin. Who remembers Candlepin Bowling competitions on Channel 5 (1950s-1970s), later other channels (1970s-1990s), one of the most hidden watched sports on TV? Rockport, MA, June, 2017—Windhover is proud to announce the annual performing arts season begins with a bang when the internationally renowned Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company takes up residence starting on Tuesday, June 27 until Sunday, July 2, 2017. The company of six dancers will be teaching master classes, culminating in three public performances scheduled for Thursday, June 29 at 7:30pm, Friday, June 30 at 7:30 and Saturday, July 1, at 7:30pm. The performances will be on the outdoor stage if weather allows. Otherwise they will be performed inside the back studio, and it will be first come first-served with limited space. No tickets are required, but a suggested donation of $20.00 is greatly appreciated.
The PERFORMANCE schedule is as follows:
Thursday June 29 & Friday June 30th at 7:30pm
Ina Hahn’s choreography to two sections of Bach’s cello suite no.6 performed live by cellist Josh Gordon. The piece is titled: “Fragments of Six”. Sharing the program is Paul Taylor’s work titled “Junction” performed to Bach’s cello suites no.1 & 4.
“Tracer” is the last piece on the program. It was a lost work created by Paul Taylor in 1962 that disappeared from the repertory. The work was reconstructed last year and performed at the 92nd St Y in New York. It involved a collaboration between the late renowned artist Robert Rauschenberg and choreographer Paul Taylor. Art historian Robert Saltonstall Mattison will provide insights into this collaborative process with an introductory talk beforehand.
Saturday July 1st: at 7:30pm
An all-out Paul Taylor program with masterpieces that include “Company B” with songs sung by the Andrew Sisters. The “Uncommitted”, with music by Arvo Pärt is from 2011. And “Junction” performed to sections of Bach’s cello suites no. 1 & 4 which is a link to Ina Hahn and her choreography, as both choreographers used J.S. Bach’s music as their inspiration for their dances.
MASTERCLASSES: Open to the public to all ages and all levels are SIX masterclasses taught by company members from the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company. Donations are welcome. The schedule of classes is as follows, taught in the back dance studio at Windhover.
