Piscitello Family Reunion- July 14, 2013
Out of the blue, I received an e-mail from my cousin Nancy, inviting me to a Piscitello Family Reunion. She stated our cousin, Joe āthe barberā Lucido was organizing this event and looking for all the relatives interested in attending. The space had been reserved at Stage Fort Park, last space available by Tablet Rock near Cresseyās Beach. The date was set for July 14, 2013 at 11 am.Ā Spread the word she said, we do not have names or contact information.
My first response was āWhat a coincidence, this was our Grandfather, Salvatoreās Birthday. Our āNanoā would have been 130 years old.ā
My grandparents Salvatore and Rosalia Piscitello immigrated from Sicily in 1910 with my four month old mother. After many moves thought-out Massachusetts they settled in Gloucester. My grandfather was a fisherman. His livelihood was the sea, so Gloucester was the perfect choice. The F/V āAmerican Eagleā was his legacy to his sons. Our āNanaā was the heart of our family together raising 11 children.
I had an idea to make a tally of my grandparentās blood decedents. The daughters, my mother, Mary Frontiero had 53 decedents,Ā Rose Lucido won with 65, Frances Piscitello 21, Ida never married, MildredĀ Gentile 20 , FlorenceĀ Doucette 6Ā Total for daughters 165.Ā Sons, John 12 , Charles 4,Ā Joseph 38+, Augustine 14 , and Peter 9. Making total of 77 for sonsĀ and Grand Total of 242. What a family!!
Family celebrations were wonderful and often, when my grandparents were alive. But now family seems only to get together mostly at funerals. Family too large to invite everyone to weddings or other events.
My contribution was the Birthday Cake, the centerpiece, as I had a family portraitĀ of my grandparents and their 11 childrenās photograph laminated and put onĀ top of the cake, which was decorated in the Italian colors of red, green and white. My Aunt Frances and Aunt Millie, cut the cake. The only remaining children.
Everyone brought their own food and drinks. A charcoal grill was there for cooking. Lots of good cooks and delicious food. Tents were set up. Many games were played. We sang the old Italian songs. What a wonderful occasion to renew acquaintance with our relatives. I was introducing my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to relatives they had never met. Many traveled from all over the state to attend. Well over one hundred attended. A tremendous success. This must be an annual event. I requested Nancy to please reserve a space at the park for next year.Ā Next time closer to the rest house.Ā Ā Ā Virginia (Frontiero) McKinnonĀ Ā Ā July 2013

The New Gloucester Harbor and Monster Tuna
Fred Bodin Submits-
Tonight (Sunday 8/18/13) Janet and I went to the final hour of the Waterfront Festival. After a brief stop in the gallery, we decided to take our cars to Captain Carlo’s for dinner, and on the way to our cars, Janet pointed out a large motor yacht tied up at the Fort. I immediately saw the possibilities of an interesting post of our old harbor and what’s ahead in the future, so I told her I’d meet her after taking a few shots from behind Latitude 43.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a very large tuna being unloaded at the Intershell dock. The tuna boat was Second Source of Marblehead. Even the Intershell fish cutter/processor (orange foul weather pants) was taking photos of this exceptional fattie monster tuna.
It looks like they were in awe of this fish. The Intershell employee is holding a fillet knife to cut out samples to check for quality, and they’re all hoping it won’t fall on them. That would be bad ā real bad. Taking into account the relative size of the fishermen, we estimate this tuna to be at least 12 feet in length. Tomorrow, I’m walking down to Intershell and getting us a piece of this beautiful giant for the grill. This island we live on is very, very special.

Artists Spotlight Event Tuesday Night at Willowdale Estate
Join us as we feature two accomplished artists that are very close to the Willowdale Estate family. Showing for one night only!
Jay Forsythe graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. With a background in graffiti, his current work is about engaging with the idea that traditional methods of art making can lead to a deeper understanding of formulating new processes. Once traditional methods are understood these methods act as a guide to explore and discover uncharted areas.

Rhumb Line Monday Night Jam 18th Anniversary Celebration feat. Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski of Trey Anastasio Band
Every once in a while you just have to step back, take a breath and marvel at the fact that you can go out on a Monday night and see some of the world’s best musicians jam in an intimate venue right down the street from where you live. Ā And it’ FREE! Ā Check out this note from Dan King about tonight’s very special Rhumb Line Jam:
Tonight is the 18th Anniversary of The Rhumb Line Monday Night Jam Celebration. The Jam has seen many ups and downs, countless players and attendants and many hosts holding down the fort over the years. Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski, two obvious jam masters being in the Trey Anastasio Band, are joining in to help us celebrate. It’s a closed Jam with a schedule of former and current musicians who’ve kept it alive, making for an amazing night of mayhem. Early Start at 8:30pm by Bandit Kings to get it rolling since they’re the current caretakers. Thanks for making my little idea such a big piece of Cape Ann Music.
Here’s an example of the kind of jam that gets going when all these folks get together.
Another reason to be glad you live in Gloucester!

Artist Spotlight- Tara White Studio
Hello,
My name is Tara White and I am a local artist who specializes in polymer clay ornaments and jewelry. I recently started following your blog through WordPress, where I have my own blog. I wanted to find out if you ever write posts that feature local artists. If so, I would be very interested in being featured. I have been investing more and more of my time in promoting myself and I know that you have a very faithful following. I know that it would be beneficial to have even the smallest mention. I hope this is not too forward, but I figured it can’t hurt to ask! I really look forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Tara White

In case you forgot (or didn’t know) about Tacos Lupita…
Truly authentic Mexican tacos, $2 each. Ā (They also have lots other meat options and Latin American dishes, of course.)Ā I got two tacos the other day, one with chicken and one with cow tongue.
Yes, cow tongue! Try it – it’s really good! I know that the thought of one’s own tongue and teeth chewing up the tongue of a dead cowĀ grosses a lot of people out. But the meat is tender and very flavorful!
Tacos Lupita is at 63 Washington St. in Gloucester. Ā Open Monday through Saturday 11AM-9PM.

Joey: I noted the photos on Good Morning Gloucester of Adventure sailing again last week. Here are a couple I took in 1988 – the first of Adventure returning to Gloucester, and the second of her appearing in the Labor Day schooner race. Best, Pat Morss
Another great day (and night) off to relax in Gloucester.
