Looks like someone is selling Niles Pond, or at least the spit of land at its shore. Anyone know what’s up with this? It would be a shame not to be able to encounter lovely flowers like this rose mallow (or swamp mallow) along the shore of Niles Pond.

The house directly across from that area is on the market. Maybe that frontage on the pond is part of that? I walk down there almost everyday and wonder the same thing…..

Niles Pond is not for sale – as a Great Pond it is owned by the Commonwealth.
What is probably for sale is described as 2 Niles Pond Rd, which according to the Assessor’s database is 0.07 acres with an assessed value of $3,700 and not a buildable lot. Maybe somebody would buy it for easy access to the Pond.

Jim and I saw that last week and thought it must be some kind of joke. Maybe it’s not…

As Maggie Rosa pointed out Niles is a Massachusetts “great pond” and is covered by the much despised in Gloucester Chapter 91 tidelands regulations requiring public access.
