Help Find Missing Buddha

brendas buddha before and now

Brenda Malloy is asking for help in finding the Buddha statue that disappeared from the front lawn of her shop, IMAGINE, on Rocky Neck, sometime yesterday.  Brenda’s mother gave her the statue 11 years ago when she first opened her shop, and it has adorned her front lawn ever since.

I’m not sure how someone walks off with a 50lb  18″ high cement statue in the middle of the day, but they did.  If you saw anything, please let Brenda know.

I don’t know what is going on that people think they can just walk up and take someone else’s property like that.

Rubber Duck Quick Tip: Rockport Goings On

I’m not listing stuff here because I can’t keep up but Rubber Duck has found someone else who updates several times a day. Follow BearskinNeck.Net on Facebook. <<<Click.

That’s it. OK, I’ll give you three examples why BearskinNeck.Net is awesome. Today Rubber Duck found out:

1) The Rockport Dump is open on Sunday from 8AM to 11:45 AM until Nov 10. Huge news. This is why I love Rockport and gladly pay my town taxes. Now those fish guts and lobster shells from the Saturday festivities do not fester in the garage until God knows when.

2) The Red Skiff has several Specials including Crab Cake Benedict and Corn Beef Benedict. Make mine a double!

3) Brothers’ Brew is open at 7AM every single day all summer With a fresh made Butternut Crunch Doughnut with my name on it.

4) Why stop at three? Forgot the Farmers Market 9am-1pm at Harvey Park on Saturday! Harvey Park? End of Broadway if you hit the lighthouse in the middle of the street because you saw a large rabbit named Harvey you should park.

BearskinNeck.Net one stop shopping so you don’t spend more than three minutes on a computer every day. Today is the first day of summer! Get off that goddamn computer and go bite someone in the butt!

Runaround w/ Laser Light Show on the Boulevard

Once again, the Gloucester Fund and gimmesound.com present a FREE CONCERT ON GLOUCESTER HARBOR featuring Cape Ann Big Band and Gloucester’s #1 Party band Runaround Sound, plus we have some surprise featured vocalists TBA.

Ringo Tarr, Gloucester’s hardest working behind-the-scenes organizer, has done it again. He’s bringing his stage to the Boulevard for a rousing celebration of our independence through music, parade, fireworks and one of the most powerful laser light shows in New England– Best of all, it’s all FREE thanks to Ringo’s hard work and the musicians’ generous spirit.

Here’s the schedule:
5:00 Music Begins (band TBA)
6:00 Music breaks for Horribles Parade
7:00 Cape Ann Big Band & Runaround after parade
9:30 Fireworks over Gloucester Harbor
10:00 Spectacular LASER LIGHT SHOW by RK Lighting Design
Then dance with Runaround under the stars & the lasers.

There’s nothing like dancing on the Boulevard to the Runaround Sound with RK’s lasers overhead. DON’T MISS IT!  Here’s a video of Runaround at Capt. Carlos.

You can get into the party spirit with Runaround tonight at 9 at Minglewood Tavern.  See Cape Ann’s complete weekend live music schedule here.

Supermoon Returns

 Supermoon Returns

“Oh, is it that time again? The time for everyone to overhype the “Supermoon”?

Yup.

You’ve probably heard about this: on June 23, the full Moon will be the biggest and brightest of the year, so it’s called the Supermoon. Let me be clear: While this is technically true, you’d never notice the difference in size or brightness by eye. The full Moon will look pretty much like every other full Moon you’ve ever seen. Which is to say, big, bright, beautiful, and completely worth your time to outside and see! But Supermoon? Not so much.

Flying Around the Earth

Here’s the deal. The Moon orbits the Earth once every month or so. As it does so, the geometry—the angles between the Moon, Earth, and Sun—change, so we see a different part of the Moon lit every night. Once per orbit the Moon is roughly opposite the Sun in the sky, so the half facing the Earth is completely lit, and we say the Moon is full. This blog post I wrote (complete with awesome video) should help.”

So I’ve got an idea for a challenge.

Top four nominations for best Gloucester Italian Sub as submitted in the comments on this post.

To submit a nomination you click the title of this post and then under the post where it says “Leave a comment”, click that and write the name of the sub joint who you consider makes the best Italian Sub in Gloucester.

Nomination period runs through Friday at 8PM.

Once we tally up the top four sub shops according to your nominations, 4 GMG contributors independently and at the same time order the exact same subs to go from the nominated sub shops.  We pick them up and bring them back to the dock.

Then we place them on the digital scale for the Weigh In.  We will divide the weight into the price and come up with the best value weight wise. Then we cut it in half and then in quarters to look at the cross section for the equal distribution of meat.  If a place loads up the sub in the middle and leaves the ends empty they will be exposed.

Then we each take a quarter of the sub and grade based on taste.

We will present the findings in a post to the readership.

I’m pumped for this challenge!

So start sending in your nominations now in the comment section of this post (again if you don’t see words that say leave a comment directly below this post then click on the title of the post and you should see where you can submit a nomination)

Also please share the link through Facebook or twitter using the buttons below the post to get the most nominations as possible.

This was taken from my BlackBerry through my car windshield while at the red light on Boylston Street facing the Memorial. Granted not the best quality pic, especially since I had to turn my wipers off and it was still lightly raining, but still a kinda cool effect.

I got the chills when I saw it appear so bright and wondrous above the Memorial, thought it was a great symbol of triumph after tragedy and things like The One Fund that people, foundations, corporations and the City donated to so generously to help support the survivors, $54MM raised as of today and still growing.

Hi Joey,
Please find attached an ad for a photo workshop for teens that Simone Salvo (simonesalvo@gmail.com) is running at the end of this month and the first week of July. It is a great opportunity for young artists and very reasonably priced. It would be great if you could pass it on through the newsletter!
Thanks so much,

Oink Oink Piggies

This is just a small portion of trash I found on the beach tonight. Don’t worry I picked it up for the piggies.

Do we need to charge more to get into the beach? Or make people show a bag of trash before they can leave?

This can’t be Gloucester peeps, can it?!

It’s embarrassing that its left this way.

MBBS #2 Wicked Graylock Seacock From Al Bezanson

Joey_____

Another random photo from the Maine Boat Builders Show.  This caught my eye because I have battled a few corroded frozen seacocks in inaccessible places.  When the frozen seacock wins you may be floating dangerously.

The Graylock Seacock System booth was manned by two young brothers from the Cranberry Isles.  I spent some time with them and this is what Seth Gray told me,  “The idea for the project came from my father, Ed Gray.  He had the idea for years but just didn’t know how to put it into action.  For my senior design class at Wentworth (in 2011) I chose to take his idea and make it practical.  Out of that senior project came our first design, which has evolved since then into the display at the show. Years and years of working on the water and working on systems aboard boats led us to the conclusion that our system needed to be both rugged and simple.”
