Well, we’ve run 13 Fish on Friday posts, and that’s Kathy’s lucky number, so we are going to hang up this series until the spring. We hope you’ve enjoyed the posts and, if you take the bait, we’ll resume FOF soon.

By the way,we love Jack Lemmon (originally from Newton MA!) especially with Marilyn Monroe in Some Like it Hot. In 2000, the American Film Institute listed Some Like It Hot as the greatest American comedy film of all time.

Cape Ann Painters and Photographers Group

The Cape Ann Painter and Photographer Group will meet on Monday, March 11.  Anna and James Eves of Cape Ann Giclee will be hosting our meeting at their Fine Art and Printing Gallery at 20 Maplewood Ave., Gloucester.  The meeting will be held from 10-11:30 AM.  Anna and James will give us a general overview of the materials they use, the printing and the process, followed by a question and answer period. Coffee and muffins will be served.

You can park on the far right of Shaw’s Market. There is also some parking at 20 Maplewood Avenue.

We are delighted to be invited to Cape Ann Giclee.  A number of painters and photographers in our group have had their work reproduced at Cape Ann Giclee and have been very happy with the results.  They have also enjoyed meeting Anna and James.

All are welcome. Even if you can only come for part of the program, feel free to just drop in when you can.

Cape Ann toughing it out, so you can too — most places are open for music tonight

AS OF 1PM TODAY:

Most of main street is open right now and planning to stay open.  Check the live music listings as you get closer to going out.  CANCELLED shows are marked and we’ll be updating all day long.  Here are some highlights of things that we know are open or closed.

The Brewery is open and said they’re extending they’re kids under 10 eat free special until 5pm.

Jalapenos is open and planning to stay open.

Poseidon says they are “fully operational”.

Rhumb Line is open now and will stay open tonight with Runaround

Minglewood Tavern is open with Dave Bailin tonight.

Espresso’s is open and Wes says Full Circle is till on for tonight.

The Sold out Gordon Bok show with Three Sheets to the Wind at Old Sloop is still on.  And tomorrow’s Debbie & Friends show is still on for tomorrow at 10:30 AM

The Farm is open.  Kid’s eat free until 4pm.  MAC members get 15% 0ff (you can work your ass off then pig out).  Nick’s Jazz Fest is on for tonight.

Looks like Northbound Train will be at Dog Bar.

Cherish the Ladies Concert Cancelled

 Due to the weather,
Rockport Music announces that the Cherish the Ladies concert tonight—
Friday, March 8 is cancelled.

Rockport Music is coordinating a new date with artist’s management to be announced soon!

Ticketholders will be notified of the new date and provided an opportunity to exchange tickets.  Please note: The Box Office is closed today, due to the weather.  Please check Shalin Lin Liu homepage for updates on other concerts this weekend.

It seems the big ones they miss underestimating by a mile and the small ones they’ve overhyped and miss by a mile.

Travel is extremely dangerous on Atlantic Road. In half a dozen different places along the route, the road is littered with large and small rocks and driftwood from the storm surge.

The Fishtown Horribles Parade Committee is asking the community of Gloucester for assistance in sprucing up our newly established website. We are in search of photos of past parades to be included on our website that will show the history of the parade over the years. Mamie’s Kitchen Dodgemother Alicia DeWolfe Is Ready To Bring The Pain

Word on the street is that The Dodgefathers Ring Leader Alicia DeWolfe is out for blood after last year’s results in the GMG/Farm Bar and Grille Bikini Speedo Dodgeball Tournament.

She has assigned all new Capos and will stop at nothing to bring home a victory for her mafia den of crime also known as Mamie’s Kitchen.

The Dodgemother in particular called out The Farm Bar and Grille squad Ass With Class, Crossfit Cape Ann two teams Power Snatch and Pistol Whip,  DogBar’s American Bacon, Passports Canadian Bacon and Ed Collard’s Reigning Champs Blinded By The White.

Be there to witness the pain Next Saturday March 16th at Camp Spindrift.

Ecology Class Collects Trash Around Shore!

GMG GHS correspondent Marlee Melvin reports-

GHS CLEANING UP! 

A laboratory exercise in the high schools ecology class measures and collects trash around the shoreline behind the school. The students picked up two full trash barrels, about 36 pounds, along 750 feet of shoreline, and using this as an overall average were able to calculate that there is probably around 390,000 pounds of plastic trash on the combined shorelines of Massachusetts! They were able to do this by utilizing the equipment and facility that were donated to GHS by Salem State (the “Lab”). The class is learning about plastics in the environment and their impact on the marine ecosystems!
