A Gentle Reminder: Holiday Card Season Is Upon Us

No Pressure But You Don’t want To Come Off With Some Generic Lamo Christmas Card This Year Do You?

Well the time is now to start planning.

It isn’t enough to lug your kid/s to the mall and plop them down on the lap of that homeless alcoholic who plays Santa every year and pay the $30 bucks for a few 8x10s.

In today’s world of competitive momming you gotta bring you’re A-Game.  You have to do something completely unique or let’s face it, you just don’t love your kids.  You’re a bad mom, a terrible mom.  Maybe the reason you’re lugging your kids to the mall is because you have a secret homeless alcoholic Santa fetish and while your kids are innocently sitting on homeless alcoholic Santas lap you’re thinking about getting all freaky during alcoholic homeless Santa’s coffee break.

Anyway, I digress.  If you want to avoid getting all caught up in your alcoholic homeless Santa fetish I suggest you get started on your beautiful children’s Christmas Cards immediately.

We go to Sona Revette’s Love and Life Cards

I did a video interview with Sona last year-

Sona can completely customize your Holiday Card so you don’t get cast off into the uncaring unloving mother pile of Moms who don’t go the extra mile for their children.

They are cheap and she donates dough to plant trees with every order.  So you can assuage your guilt about destroying the ozone with your aerosol cans of hairspray by rocking with Sonas Custom Holiday Cards as well.

Here’s a preview from Sona-

Holiday sneak peak!

The holiday season is upon us… well, almost! It is still October, but some of you very organized people (you know who you are) have already started thinking about holiday cards and have even put in a holiday order. You would think as a card designer, my cards would be done well ahead of time, but alas, I have no idea what my family holiday card will look like. The card design is so much fun for me, but getting just the right photo is another story! So instead of stressing about how I’ll ever get my kiddos to photographed, I’d rather have fun designing the perfect card for you and your family.

Below is a sneak peak of some of our 2012 holiday designs. We’re really excited to offer more designs this year!

Simple and stylish "Crafty Collage"

Say it all with "Joy and Love"

Show off your little elves with "Santa’s Little Helpers"

Three perfect photos? "May your days be Merry & Bright"

Classic Christmas "One Ornament"

Simple and elegant "Ball of Joy"

All of these new designs, and more, will be on the web site and ready to go by the first week in November, but of course if you’re ahead of the game, we can get started right away and as always, if you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for on our web site, we will be happy to create a custom design to show off your beautiful family.

Video: Gloucester’s First Wind Turbine Transported Through the Inner Harbor

Filmed on October 15th, 2012. I began filming the barge carrying Gloucester’s first wind turbine at daybreak, from Niles Beach, as it was being prepared for transport through the inner harbor. Leaving Niles, I jumped in my car and raced over to Rocky Neck to catch the barge as it was rounding the Paint Factory jetty. The barge moved slowly and majestically through the harbor, dwarfing the wooden clapboard homes and working waterfront buildings. The sky was mostly overcast, and when the sun shone briefly, the metal siding of the tugboat Orion and the steely gray cylinders shimmered in the early morning light.

I then zoomed back to my car and drove to the Jodrey Fish Pier, which was a great vantage point to film as the barge was approaching its destination, the Cruiseport launching site.

At the State Pier, many people were photographing and marveling at the enormity of the wind turbine. The largest turbine section purportedly weighs over a million pounds. Shree Delorenzo, co-owner of Cruiseport, reports that she had to engage a structural engineer to ensure that her dock could withstand the weight of the turbine, along with the two cranes, and the counter weights.

With Microsoft’s Windows 8 looking Like Such A Disaster

They Can Be Thankful That Apple Prices Their Macbook’s So Stupid Expensive For Maybe Saving Microsoft From Completely Sinking Down The Toilet With Windows 8.

I don’t know anyone who has touted Microsoft’s huge victory with Windows 7 more than I have.  I’m a HUGE HUGE FAN of Windows 7.  But Windows 8 and it’s touch interface and Metro UI looks like a complete disaster.

So Apple comes out with an announcement today for its 13 inch Macbook Pro priced at $1,699 and $1,999.   The $1,699 model includes a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, and a 128GB SSD drive. And the $1,999 step-up boosts the processor speed with a dual-core Intel Core i7 processor and the option to increase the SSD drive’s capacity to 768GB source Gizmodo

Instead of putting its foot on the throat of Microsoft and crushing its larynx Apple leaves the door open for people to continue on with lesser priced Windows based computers.

I contend that if the iPad mini is priced at less that $275 it will be a knock out punch for Amazon’s Kindle and Barnes and Noble’s Nook.  Every kid is going to want one and parents that don’t want to spend $500 on a full sized iPad will put one in the hands of their kids for the holidays.

If they price the iPad mini over $350 to start they will leave breathing room for the android devices of the world to survive.  There’s no doubt after using both android and Apple devices that the operating system for Apple tablets is far more user friendly and should command a slight premium.

Follow along on the Gizmodo live blog of the Apple Event now here

Update:

They just announced the pricing of the iPad mini base model starts at $329 which IMO leaves the door open for the lesser Nook and Kindle Fire to survive.  This is not to say that the Fire or Nook are  nearly as good as the ipad Mini but they are able to be priced considerably less.  There is a sweet spot of price that most people would be willing to spend for a child’s holiday present and $329 is higher than magic number IMO.

Sort of like the $9.99 lunch, price it over that and you lose a lot of working folks.  looks like Apple let up on squashing its competitors on this one as well.

If money were no option you go full sized iPad obvi.

Latest updates to Music Lineup ~ Missed Peter on the radio Sunday? Listen here.

Just so you know, Peter wants no part of this post.  So guess who’s writing today.  I don’t mean to bitch, but you people who leave everything to the last minute make my job harder.  Today, I found a number of live shows that hadn’t been listed on gimmesound (because you didn’t tell us about them) so I put them in.  See the updated live music listings here.  If you’re a musician or a music venue, you get a free listing on gimmesound.com and you can update it yourself.  It’s easy.  I’m happy to give you a private lesson on how to keep your shows updated if you want.  Or if you don’t even want to learn how, just send me your shows — either way, send an email to live@gimmesound.com.

For all of you who slept late or enjoyed the sun on Sunday and missed Aurelia Nelson’s interview with Peter talking about Berklee in Gloucester on her 104.9fm show, Curtain up, you can hear it here:

Mari Martin to join The Dave Sag’s Blues party this Thursday night @ The Rhumb Line

Dave says, I’ve got a treat for ya this week. A new singer (for me anyway) in the form of a classical sireeen. I’m talking’ bout Ms. Mari Martin. Not to be confused with she who’s gonna wash that man right outa her hair. Or some androgynous weenie flying around in a green suit. This is the real deal. She is truly a vocal blunderbuss and will knock you out. This gal was rescued from a life of gargling with razor blades in a piano bar by none other than Marque Earley, who promptly sent her to me. Let’s see what we can do. In keeping with this program I have assembled a tight crackpot unit to back her up. We have Marque Earley on tenor and baritone kazoo and saxophone, Mr. Jon Cameron, on his organ again, Mr. Bob Enik, the spackler, on guitar, who knows how to fill in the cracks, and me, on base bringing up the rear. We’re all really looking forward to this and hope you’ll all come out and cheer for the local girl! We’re nothing without you!

Hello everyone!

It may sound like an uncomfortable suggestion from an arch

accomplished guitarist, singer, arranger and writer.  But a
lesser known secret is that the “Rock” also happens to be a
wonderful painter, whose works have been prestigiously
shown in galleries from Boston to NYC! ~ Fly

GMG Readers Poll- What Would You Like To See Fill The Space Vacated By Five Guys?

If those of you who have Facebook or Twitter or Google+ could share this I’d love to see a really large number of votes to get a true picture of what most people want, Thanks. (You can share it by clicking the little icons below the post)

Holy Canoli Batman there were a lot of responses to this.  Some which I think are completely ridiculous due to the space available where Five Guys was located up at Gloucester Crossing.

Anyway here are your options, vote away!
