  1. The Ardelle is currently off of Cape May, New Jersey. The vesselfinder website isn’t showing her track right now. You can still track her on a different website: http://www.marinetraffic.com. Just search for Ardelle under the vessels tab and then click on “show on map”.

  2. At midnight 9/25 Ardelle is making little progress beating into a strong southerly. Watch her track at http://www.marinetraffic.com/ and for nearby wind conditions here’s the weather buoy 26 miles SE of Cape May. .http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=44009 You can pan on the NOAA chart to locate other weather buoys along the route.

With this wind they are likely planning to reach up the Delaware and through the C&D Canal to the Chesapeake rather than head for Cape Charles. There is not a great difference in mileage to the Potomac.between these two routes. Washington is 100 miles up the Potomac from Chesapeake Bay.

  3. 0530 9/26 wind SSW 18-21 kt and Ardelle is still making slow progress beating toward Cape May. Been a long night out there with the wind right on their nose If they go up the Delaware they’ll be having a nice ride once they get around Cape May and the tide starts flooding. Delaware Bay entrance will be rockn’ and rollin’ at the ebb with this breeze. The flood begins just before 2 PM.

If they reach Cape May entrance at the start of the flood they will be in tall clover for they will have fair current for over 50 miles to the C&D and thence fair current just starting and all the way through the canal and well down into the Chesapeake. Then fair wind down the bay to the Potomac.
