GMG tribute To ‘Tek

If you’ve been an FOB for any amount of time you know that from the hundreds of interviews I perform from my desk that I frame my subjects with two of my favorite things hanging on the wall  in our office- The New York Post Cover of ARod with the huge caption “A-Hole” and the framed print of Jason Varitek stuffing his mitt up in ARod’s grillpeice.

So the sports reporters will ask if his number deserves to be retired at Fenway to which I respond “Are you serious?”

Without his leadership and without this scene below igniting his team you don’t have a ring.  Bottom line, end of story.

image

Well ‘Tek is retiring so I thought I’d just go back a bit and pull up a few of the interviews.  I’m not sure if my interviewees are aware that’s how I frame my shots but in case you weren’t paying attention, here you go-

Announcing The Gloucester Blues Festival Saturday, August 11th, 2012

It’s a good time to give Good Morning Gloucester the news on our headliner for the Gloucester Blues Festival taking place in Stage Fort Park on Saturday, August 11th.

Shemekia Copeland is at the top of her game, and will thrill the blues lovers at Stage Fort Park this August.  She performed earlier this week at the White House for President Barack Obama and shared the stage with blues luminaries like Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Jeff Beck, Keb Mo, Warren Haynes and Trombone Shorty.

On Monday night at 9:00 p.m., PBS will be broadcasting the show:  “In Performance at the White House Red, White and Blues”.  I urge our friends to tune in and get a small sampling of the powerful voice of Shemekia Copeland, the Queen of the Blues.

The Gloucester Blues Festival is a Paul Benjamin/Bob Hastings Production.  Paul Benjamin is the producer of the North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland, Maine which attracts 16,000 people to the Maine waterfront each July:

Tomorrow is February 29, Leap Day

And the day after that is March. And that means spring and summer and Mug-Ups down on Madfish Pier and Swan Boats on the Boston Common and 135 days to the Blackburn Challenge. It also means Cape Ann seasonal openings. If your restaurant or other seasonal establishment on Cape Ann has a firm date for opening please send it to me or add it to the comments on this post. There is nothing better than reading about when the Lobster Pool or Goose Cove Nurseries, or Top Dog opens up for the season.  Before you know it the Rockport information booth will hang the Mister And Misses Bathroom sign up.

Back to work but dreaming about summer.

Oh, and tomorrow, on Leap Day, do something you never thought you would ever do or should do. Because it’s Leap Day! It doesn’t count. Also, be sure and wear blue and rubber duck yellow or someone can poke you in the eye if you don’t.

Just checked Top Dog of Bearskin Neck’s Facebook page and their official opening is Saturday March 31st. Homie is already in line!

Think Pink!

Chasing Away the Winter Doldrums

The stem I always manage to snap when unpacking the tulips-

Kay Tompson sings Think Pink! in Funny Face (1957, starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire)

Think pink! when you shop for summer clothes.

Think pink! if you want that quel-que chose.

Red is dead, blue is through,

Green’s obscene, brown’s taboo.

And there is not the slightest excuse for plum or puce

—or chartreuse.

Think pink! forget that Dior says black and rust.

Think pink! who cares if the new look has no bust.

Now, I wouldn’t presume to tell a woman

what a woman oughtta think,

But tell her if she’s gotta think: think pink—!

Did You Know? (For Painters & Photographers)

When I come across something great, I like to share it.  I recently discovered Fine Art America, an internet art print marketing, social networking and sales site that I find really amazing and wanted all GMG painters and photographers to know about.  Every creative person who has any interest in exposing and selling their work needs to have an internet presence as part of their marketing effort.  Many artists I know do not have a website, or have a website which is not properly Search Engine Optimized, so no one finds it.  Fine Art America not only allows you to have a web presence, but gives you an impressive array of tools and muscle to make it possible for your work to actually be found on the web and not just sucked into the huge vacuum of the internet.

For free you can upload up to 25 of your images (up to 25M each – the larger the better as it allows you to offer larger good quality print sizes).  For $30/year (with a 90 day free trial), you can have a premium customized website and upload as many images as you want into an unlimited number of galleries, directly connected to FAA’s millions of visitors each month.  You can also connect it to your own existing website, especially if you have an e-commerce site, to drive more traffic to it.

You determine what you want to make on the sale of your images. When you receive an order for one of your prints on your website, FAA takes care of everything for you, including: printing, framing, matting, packaging, insuring, shipping, collecting payments from your buyers, and sending your profits to you each month via PayPal or check.  It’s a no brainer, so check it out.  I feel strongly enough about FAA that I have become an Affiliate, so if you do sign up for an account with them through this link, you’ll help yourself and me too.  http://artistwebsites.com/?affiliateid=G8661
