Maritime Gloucester Heritage Day
Maritime Gloucester, located at 23 Harbor Loop in downtown Gloucester, will host its annual Heritage Day celebration from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event is free to the public.

Heritage Day at the White-Ellery House
The 1710 White-Ellery House (245 Washington Street, Gloucester) will have a slide show of schooners and have other fishing & racing related activities. The event is free to the public.
4:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Lobster Bake at The Gloucester House
Music, food and a whole lot of fun. The cost is only $17
for Lobster, Corn and Cornbread.

Concert on Stacy Boulevard
Enjoy a community concert on The Boulevard before and after the Parade of Lights and Fireworks.

Boat Parade of Lights
The annual Boat Parade of Lights begins at dusk at Jones Creek on the Annisquam River, travels down the river, through the drawbridge and into Gloucester Harbor, ending in the Smith’s Cove area of the harbor.

Hannah Kimberly at Gloucester House | Cape Ann Chamber Businesswomen’s Fall Event
Full house for author Hannah Kimberly’s talk at the 2017 annual Cape Ann Chamber Businesswomen’s signature fall event. Gloucester House is such a generous community venue. This stack of A WOMAN’S PLACE IS AT THE TOP hardcovers was GONE before the event was over, sold out by Charlie from the Chamber.
Jenn Orlando, Cape Ann Savings Bank, chairs the Chamber’s businesswomen committee which oversees the Carolyn O’Connor Scholarship along with fostering connections through outreach like this Fall event. Orlando and Sara Young, President of the Chamber and director of Schooner Adventure, welcomed the guests and introduced featured speaker, Hannah Kimberly. Kimberly recounted tales and her rediscovery of 19th century feminist and adventurer, Annie Smith Peck. Mayor Romeo Theken praised the writer, and was pleased that other Mayors are discussing this wonderful new book. She can relate! Kimberly shared a particularily competitive bit between the subject, Annie Peck Smith, and a famous male contemporary. (You’ll have to read the book to find out!) I will note that my table discussed that face-off sounding like a Bobbi Riggs vs Billie Jean King story of its time. Kimberly is working on a new book AND there is a documentary film in the works about Annie Smith Peck, the subject of A Woman’s Place is at the Top.

from the Chamber- Businesswomen’s Events – Through the year, the Chambers Business Women’s Committee puts together a number of mixer, luncheons and other events geared towards the business women on Cape Ann. Proceeds of these events help to fund the Carolyn O’Connor Scholarship Fund, which is given each year to a recipient who is looking to change career paths or re-enter the workforce.

Visit Beauport for some of the best views of the annual Gloucester Schooner Festival’s Parade of Sail. Watch schooners sail to the Eastern Point Light breakwater to begin the Mayor’s race for the Esperanto Cup. Coffee and light breakfast refreshments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring blankets and/or chairs and other refreshments if preferred. The house is not available for tours during this event. $10 Historic New England members, $15 nonmembers. Registration is required. 978-283-0800

Anticipation is building for Gloucester’s fabulous and beautiful Schooner Festival. After a year and a half of Harbor renovations it is a joy to see Schooner Adventure and Schooner Ardelle return to their home at Maritime Gloucester.
Schooner Columbia will be berthed next to the Adventure during the 2017 Schooner Festival, as she has in previous years, save for last year’s Festival. Friday’s schedule is as follows:

“Gloucester, Cape Ann and Essex County are excited to participate in Sail Boston 2017~~~ the largest tall ships event in Boston in decades! Look for The Essex County Maritime Heritage Tent behind the Moakley Court House. Our exhibit display is open to the public: Sat., June 17- Mon., June 19 from 9AM-6PM each day.
Exhibiting Partners include: Essex Shipbuilding Museum, Schooner Adventure, Schooner Ardelle, Discover Gloucester, Cape Ann Chamber, Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey, Maritime Gloucester and National Maritime Heritage Society.
The cooperative exhibit will include educational activities and interactive exhibits designed to engage visitors in the rich maritime heritage of Essex County. The exhibit is behind the Moakley Courthouse, dockside to many of the Essex Built vessels participating in Sail Boston 2017. Join us as we celebrate Essex county’s maritime past, showcase the current work being done to preserve maritime traditions in the present while continuing to inspire and educate students –keeping these vibrant traditions alive and well into the future.”
