Muffy White Organizing and Styling and Beach Gourmet Catering Enter Bikini Speedo Dodgeball Tournament

The Latest Business to Get in on the action is Beach Gourmet Catering. As many of you know Matt beach will be opening up shop after last year’s horrible Washington St fire in the location of the former Connors Pharmacy.

Also Muffy White Organizing and Styling Has Thrown their hat into the ring. Muffy an active fitness freak has signed an as of yet unnamed group of athletes to represent her.

If you have a mess of a house and would like a little semblance of order back give Muffy a call.

Here’s her website-

I’m not really sure who would be intimidated by a team whose captain’s name is Muffy but hey, she’ says she’s bringing the thunder.

In other Bikini Speedo Dodgeball news Ryan Pinkham who once the ink dried on his players contract representing the Sugar Mag’s team immediately set out for a nice ball waxing stating that he’s really going for an aerodynamic package.

I told you any team that signs up will get their links and logo included in every Speedo Dodgeball post leading up to the event. GMG is only seen by 25-35,000 people a day so for you to not sponsor a team and get that recognition in these pages for your organization is just plain bad business. Not to mention that all of the profits are going to Next Step, an organization that provides support, education and resources for teens and young adults coping with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

Erik Lorden owner of Passports whose team name will be Canadian Bacon specifically called out team from Crossfit Cape Ann stating-

“They’re Going Down Like A Sweet Muffin!”

Eric Lorden from Passports told me they ordered bikini’s and speedos with maple leafs on the ass and are looking into getting white swim caps with the maple leaf as well.. .So we have The Farm Bar and Grille, Ryan and Wood Distillery, George’s Coffee Shop,Sugar Mag’s, Cross Fit Cape Ann, Beverly Athletic Club, Good Morning Gloucester, Jungle Screen Printing, Passports Canadian Bacon, Ed Collard’s House Doctors, Mamie’s Kitchen Muffin Tops, Beach Gourmet Catering and Muffy White Organizing and Styling so far.

Get a team together, have a ton of fun and do some good. Wins all the way around.

You don’t need to be sponsored by a business you can get a team together yourself. Funny team names are encouraged!

So get in on the fun, drum up some awareness for your organization and help with the fight against the suck that is cancer.

Gloucester Daily Times : City gets no bidders for I-4, C-2 site

They didn’t get any bids for development here, yet the "Citizens for Gloucester Harbor" group says that there are a ton of marine industrial uses on the waterfront.

Well then, why aren’t they all scurrying to put bids in on I4-C2 and get rich with all their ideas?

Old Rocky Neck School Class circa 1914 ??? From Bill Hubbard

Hi, Joey,
Here’s another puzzle maybe some of your readers may have the answer to.  The attachment is a picture of the class from the old one room schoolhouse on Rocky Neck.

My uncle, Eber Dahlmer has been identified as the boy farthest left in the back row with the big smile on his face.  Next to him has been identified as the late Harry A. Wheeler, a lifelong Rockynecker.  Capt. John A. Dahlmer’s family settled on Rocky Neck on arrival from Michigan in 1914.  Eber would have been ten years old then, Ronald 11 and Margaret 9.  I would guess the picture was taken about that time.
I wonder if anyone can ID any of the others.

Happy Birthday Ralph Hendrickson

I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge my Dad, Ralph Hendrickson who is 87 years old today.  Here is a photo of the two of us from 4 years ago, the winter after my mother died. He is truly one of the “Greatest Generation” and I am so lucky to live with him across the street from the WWII Memorial where he is honored along with many other deserving Veterans.  Caring for the elderly can be difficult, but I just found a quote by Katherine Hepburn that sums up my feelings.  She said, “Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to give, which is everything”. Have a great day in our Beautiful City.

All the Best,
Cindy Hendrickson

Public Service Announcement

I was just talking to David Calvo about a hit and run that totaled my car, another car and damaged a third.  He thought you might be able to post a notice on Good Morning Gloucester.  The hit and run happened at 2:00 to 3:00 am Sunday morning on East Main Street in front of David’s Studio.
There must have been extensive damage to the riders side of probably a truck or an SUV.  There would be a reward for information – my phone number is 978-281-3020 and address is 245 East Main St., just up the street from David’s.
Anyone who saw something or noticed a damaged vehicle could really help me out.

Did You Know? (Addison Gilbert Hospital)

That Beverly and Addison Gilbert hospitals have been named among Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals in the U.S.?   The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® study is annual, quantitative research that identifies the hospitals with the best facility-wide performance.  At the heart of this research is the 100 Top Hospitals National Balanced Scorecard, a set of measures that evaluate performance excellence in clinical care, patient perception of care, operational efficiency, and financial stability.

I had my first experience with Addison Gilbert Hospital on Monday.  After many years of not having health insurance, thanks to Kim Smith who told me about the Gloucester Family Health Center, and Marissa Alves, who helped me through the Commonwealth’s paperwork process, I now have coverage.  I had an appointment with my new PCP, Candace Thompson, who is a wonderful doctor – very sweet, friendly, attentive, took the time to listen, ask questions, make recommendations and made me feel totally at ease and cared for, as did Erica, her nurse.  The women in the lab were efficient, friendly, and I never felt the “pinch”.  Radiology and Registration were the same, and there were no long waits anywhere.  Even the fellow patients I met and spoke with were at ease and friendly.  We on Cape Ann are so lucky to have Addison Gilbert, and I hope that the new affiliation with Leahy will only make it stronger, and that all existing staff will be retained for as long as they choose to stay.

Simply Stunning Work in Progress

Juni Van Dyke and Maggie Rosa discuss design elements of the Eastern Point panel.

Yesterday I had the joy to meet Juni Van Dyke and several members of the Rose Baker Senior Center art class. Juni and her students are working on a project titled Gloucester: A Community of Neighborhoods. Each fabric panel measures approximately five-foot square and illustrates through iconic imagery characteristics unique to Gloucester neighborhoods. The banner’s design in it’s entirety, along with the individual artist’s whimsical designs and choice of fabrics, is utterly captivating and a vibrant visual feast.

Maggie’s extraordinary interpretation of the archetypical Beauport window. The window’s mullions frame a collection of antique glass in varying shades of lavender to deep grape.

This is not the first grand scale project of it’s kind created by Juni and the fiber artists at the Senior Center. The banner titled From Sea to Shining Sea: Celebration of the American Landscape that is currently on view at the Senior Center lunchroom was also exhibited at the Lexington Heritage Center for six months, and it measures nine feet in height by thirty feet in width.

Lois Stillman’s elegant rendition of the birch tree clump at Niles Pond.

Eastern Point panel detail with Mother Ann and butterflies.

I am honored to have been invited to create a butterfly for the Eastern Point panel although I think they have it beautifully covered. The whimsical swirl of butterflies in the upper left corner was created by students at the Eastern Point Day School and the charming and detailed Monarchs fluttering around Beauport by Maggie Rosa.

Lois stands in front of the panel she designed. Note her genius interpretation of the Abram Piatt Andrew Bridge, replete with cars (click photo to see larger version) and including Nichols Candy House. Her deep love of trees is apparent in the exquisitely skilled manner she has stitched and pieced many different species of trees created for the panels.

As the work on Gloucester: A Community of Neighborhoods unfolds we’ll bring you more stories and detailed photos about this vibrant and captivating work of art in progress–there are simply too many beautiful tales to tell in one post!

Who’s counting and why?

Why is T-Max counting steps?  Maybe you can figure it out by watching part 2 in gimmesound’s 5 part series on walking Gloucester’s music scene.  If you missed yesterday’s video, you’ll want to watch it to find out what’s going on.  See it here:

Great music around town tonight – get out and enjoy it ~ you can see the full list here.

So You’re Tom Brady…

You spend 24/7/365 saying All The Right Things to the media. Every single day when they try to bait you into saying some disparaging remarks about opposing teams or percieved malcontents on your own team you ALWAYS without fail brush aside comments and diffuse any possible media shitstorm.

And then moments after a devastating loss in the Superbowl with the entire world watching your Victoria Secret All Star Supermodel drops a bomb saying something to effect that her husband "can’t throw AND catch the balls"-effectively throwing his receivers under the bus and undoing all the goodwill the guy has built up with his classy image year after year.

When the shit hits the fan and the Boston Sports Media does its usual hysteria laden rants against you, do you give her a pass because she’s a smokeshow Supermodel or do you flip out?

Dave Sag’s Blues Party to host Mr. Mike Mele. This Thursday night @ The Rhumb Line

 Thursday – 9:00 to 12:00 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party

Dave says,

Let’s welcome Mr. Mike Mele back to the fold. Poor Mike: he feels neglected cuz he hasn’t been around much since he’s so busy with that organ grinder trio he’s so proud of. Must be tough taking care of a capuchin monkey: what with the laundry and the pellets and all….
Some years back Mike and I had a nice brunch gig going: played a lot of grueling standards and gargled our way thru many obscure bluesy tunes. Hardly anybody blew their cookies! Now he’s back and I’m gonna try and trick him into doing a few of these neglected gems. watch him squirm!
But seriously, folx, Mike’s a great player, really boffo, and a boon to add to our increasingly expanding Augean Stable. Come czech him out!
Backing him up  will be our tonsorally-challenged madman of meter: Mr Steevie Chaggaris, on drummmbs, and ,of course, Greg T. and myself complete the circle. See you there!
