Boy Scouts to pick up Christmas Trees on Saturdays, Jan. 2-16

Boy Scout Troop 20 will offer its Christmas Tree Service to Gloucester and Rockport residents, picking up Christmas trees to be recycled for use in local gardens.

Tree pickup will be held on Saturdays, Jan. 2, Jan. 9, and Jan. 16 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Why get pine needles all over your car? Don’t let your trees dry brittle branches scratch the paint!

Trees must be free of ornaments, lights, and tree stands.Trees should be put outside prior to the Scouts’ arrival.

A $4 donation will go to support local Boy Scout Troop 20. Funds raised will be used to go on Scouting trips, outings, and/or equipment.

To have a tree picked up, call 978-546-9501 with your name, address, telephone number and which day is best to pick up your tree. Or, e-mail with the same information to treepickup@verizon.net. Rockport and Gloucester only, please.

Guess I’d better take mine down……soon! 🙂

Fabulous Lily and the High High Tide………..

We ventured out to take some pictures to email to our friends in Minnesota because they didn’t believe that the tide could get this high.  Lily had never seen the water this high and according to the Essex Police Department it is going to be even higher tomorrow.

I bet Lily is thinking that she needs a boat to get to her Nana and Pop’s house right now!

I think the name might have to be change to Lake Essex Marina at this rate:

The Essex Causeway under water:

According to the project manager (pictured, I forget his name but he is a really nice guy) the causeway will no longer flood from the river side with the 133 project is finished.

I guess take out orders will have to wait at the Fortune Palace:

View from the bridge over the river.

If we can get out of the driveway tomorrow we will go and take more pictures!

Have leftover potato chips from the big New Year’s Eve Party? Make these today before the resolutions kick in tomorrow!

My Mom used to make these for the holidays when we were little and I dragged out the recipe to make them myself.  Very very simple recipe and a great way to use up that half bag of chips that will go stale if you don’t do something with them………yummmmm……Enjoy!

Potato Chip Cookies

1 pound butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups crushed potato chips
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside

Cream together the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.

Mix in the flour and potato chips and stir well.

Drop by teaspoon onto cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
