The mission of Rockport New Year’s Eve (RNYE) is to broaden and deepen the public’s appreciation for the performing, literary, and visual arts through innovative, diverse and high-quality programs that offer the community a shared cultural experience that is accessible and affordable. RNYE presents year-round programs that both support this mission and raise funds. RNYE is also supported by business sponsorships and individual donations.
RNYE’s most important event of the year, and the one for which the organization is named, is the celebration of the arts on New Year’s Eve. The evening is designed to be an impressive, “small seacoast town” version of First Night celebrations held throughout the country. New Year’s Eve in Rockport is a treasured tradition enjoyed by Cape Ann residents and visitors
Attendees purchase buttons online or at stores throughout Rockport and Gloucester in advance of New Year’s Eve, or at the event headquarters on New Year’s Eve. A button allows the bearer to attend any events that are scheduled throughout the evening. The following description gives a good perspective of the depth, breadth and cultural diversity of the entertainment.
The celebration begins at 6PM on New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve entertainment is scheduled on the hour, every hour, from 6PM to midnight, with 15 minute breaks in between each 45 minute session to allow attendees to walk from venue to venue and venue managers to reset for the next act. The entertainment options scheduled throughout the evening are culturally diverse and suitable for all ages. Musical acts may include folk, Celtic, blues, reggae, calypso, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, funk, soul, bagpipes, gospel, songs of the sea, 50’s and 60’s doo wop, country, western swing, African pop, New Orleans jazz, big band, and a cappella.. Other entertainment may include clowns, jugglers, puppeteers, story tellers, face painters, dancers, psychic readers, and telescope viewing with the astronomy club. Children of all ages participate in the drum jam and parade through the downtown streets, with a large dancing dragon and costumes. At midnight, attendees gather in Dock Square to watch the ball drop from the highest ladder of the town fire truck and sing “Auld Lang Syne”.

This was the first time going to NYE In Rockport. I got my button and went straight to The Shalin Liu. I moved around a bit. Got a seat right away in the balcony then asked if it was ok to move down to the main floor. It was excellent. Twenty dollars for a button and I got to see two great shows at the same venue. There was music all over the small town of Rockport and all kinds of festivities. I was happy,so there was no need to venture out. Make sure to check out the website next year to see what’s happening. You will be glad you did! > http://newyearsrockporteve.com/countdown/
I stayed home today (12/31/14) because I didn’t feel that great. I had a cough at night and a muscle pain in my left leg from physical therapy. When Janet came home from work, we ate a simple dinner of chicken and wild rice, washed down with some bubbly. She went off to a girlfriend’s party, and I’ve been sitting in front of the fire. Soon I’ll be watching CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin report on the Times Square festivities. To be honest, I couldn’t imagine seeing 2015, but I clearly will. Less than 11 months ago, I was in Beverly Hospital with tubes running in and out of my body, saving my life. For two months, I couldn’t roll over in bed without assistance. That’s in the past. I’ve had a year of recovery, loss of friends and family, and many challenges. I’m looking forward to Valentine’s Day. Happy New Year all.

The end of 2010, that is. Even though I’m spending Christmas far from Cape Ann, I’m dreaming of a White Christmas in New England, and of course already planning for the last night of 2010 at New Year’s Rockport Eve, the annual party (including a ball drop in Dock Square) in downtown Rockport. Claire Franklin, the one-woman whirlwind who founded and organizes the event, works hard all year to bring all of us this event, offering entertainment of all kinds – magicians, puppet shows, and every genre of music you can think of.
Click the link for more information and the Schedule of Events. The video is of the band BeatleTracks playing at last year’s New Year’s Rockport Eve.
Joey, baby, H A P P Y D A Y to you!
Thought it may be a good idea to give people some directions on exactly where the beach is that The Rocky Neck Plunge takes place. It is called Oak Cove Beach at the end of Stevens Way, neither of which names are commonly known to most, even on Rocky Neck!
When one is driving down Rocky Neck and bears right at Sailor Stan’s restaurant, you take the first street on the left ‘Stevens Way’. This is a short street, 2 houses long, then you must go either right or left on Wonson St. If you were to continue straight you go down the gravel path ahead of you, this leads to Oak Cove Beach where the plunge takes place.
Hope to see a big crowd, one and all are welcome!
PEACE!

I‘m writing you in regards to our upcoming event called “New Year’s Eve with Sober Connections” at the Blackburn Performing Arts Center at 1 Washington St in Gloucester MA. (On the Corner of Washington & Main about the restaurant Guiseppe’s)
This Event is the vision of SoberConnections.net being hosted at the Blackburn Performing Arts Center. We at Sober Connections are striving to create activities for the sober communities here on the North shore, and hope to expand across the state. Our Social Website, www.SoberConnections.net has started picking up people from all across the country! Our goal with these events is to offer the sober community a sense of awareness that there are fun things to do without the use and abuse of alcohol and/or drugs. Our website provides a forum for people to find or share these events, whether it be simply a group of people heading to the movies, or a larger event like we are pulling together for this venue.
We are scheduled to open the doors around 7 PM to offer the live music, DJ, and Dancing from 7:30 -12:30 PM. Below is an excerpt of what we are sending people:
“Sober Connections New Years Eve Party
Come Join us for a night of Sober Festivities as we celebrate our 1 year anniversary and countdown the end of the year and usher in the New Year at the Blackburn Performing Arts Center in Gloucester, soon to be our new home for Sober Connections! This is a Family Friendly Event.

Children under 10 are free!
We will be having local talented Musicians perform, like Marty Dunphy and Bob Ledger as well as others, We will be also having Dance Music, And Lee C will be organizing a few dances including a Line Dance for those of you have asked about it from our past events!
DJ DK will be rocking out the tunes with a a few songs hand picked from our younger crowd, and as always, VJ Mike will be making sure that your visual cortex’s are assaulted properly watching our 100" large video screen.
Daniel D is again gathering Gift Certificates from the local merchants and other prizes for our end of night giveaways.. looks to be a Great Night!!
We do encourage you to think about our "Sponsor a ticket" program. This was designed so that people that couldn’t pay for a ticket could get in with the donation of others. This has been very popular, and these tickets will be held at the door for those wanting to come but their budget is a bit tight. We all have been thru it in early sobriety, and have been to many wonderful events due to the generosity of others in sobriety.
We are also having a musical instrument Drive to help the Beverly School for the Deaf. They are looking for used musical instruments for the new music program they are bringing to these children, so if you have anything from a kazoo to larger instruments, please bring them to donate. They will be going to a good cause!”
Tickets can be purchased at the door, but we are hoping to sell out, so if you’re looking to come, Advanced Tickets are available thru Ticket River at:
http://www.ticketriver.com/event/872/
And if you want to promote our event to your friends, we are also located on Boston.com Here:

There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that GMG nor anyone connected with GMG has convinced the sea chantey music group “Three Sheets to the Wind” to sing about a sea captain’s wife complaining of too many sailors brought home by her husband. They will be singing other sea chanteys from 10-10:45 & 11-11:45 PM upstairs at the Rockport firehouse. Then you have 15 minutes to get to the twenty million dollar jewel encrusted ball drop back at Motif #1.
Fun Fact: New Year’s Eve is also the first time in twenty years that a Blue moon occurs on that day. A Blue moon is when there are two full moons in the same month. When this posts at 2PM you only have until 3:03 PM today to go take a photo of that Blue Moon rising. (It sets at 7:07 AM tomorrow in the rain.)
