The New and Improved Mile Marker One

As is often my go-to on rainy weekend days, I headed to the pool at Cape Ann’s Marina Resort yesterday.  You have heard me say this before, but it is a total score if you are a parent of a  young child…especially ones that can swim confidently on their own.

We were there for a little over four hours, the kids swam, we ate lunch, and hung out with friends.

We always have great, easy, inexpensive fun there and that has only become better with their new and improved menu by the pool AND the great renovations outside!  Today I ordered the strawberry summer salad, the boys had the chicken tenders with the world’s BEST honey mustard, and we shared the cheese trio plate with havarti, manchego, and brie….and mango slaw + pita chips.

I love hanging out with the boys, but I can’t wait to go back hit the raw bar, have some yummy drinks, hear some music, and sit by the water with some friends too.

Live blogging: it is a gorgeous night and packed — ready for discussing upcoming season plans! Mile Marker One looks beautiful — getting all their outdoor decks ready to roll.

So who was there and who helped?

Peter Webber, Ken Riehl, Kerry McKenna were there for the Chamber. We will be playing from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We promise a terrific show for you to feast your ears on and move your feets to, all while you feast on some exquisite fare from the bounty that is the sea. If You Get Tired of the Snow, Go for a Swim!

The boys and I met my mom, dad, sister, and nephew for a super yummy breakfast at the Cape Ann Marina this morning and then spent a couple of hours swimming in the pool….and having a couple of mimosas.

While there, I bought my February School Vacation Pool Pass!  SUCH a great deal!  For $59 a family of four can use the pool all week long (ending 2/22). If you have more than four in the family there is an additional fee per head.

A totally easy way to spend some time, get some exercise, and tire out the whippersnappers!  A total bonus is that you can order lunch/dinner/drinks while there.

More of a Good Thing: Fall Fest @ Mile Marker One

Both Donna and Joey already posted some fantastic photos from this weekend’s Fall Festival at Mile Marker One, but it was such a great event, that more can’t hurt.  Mile Marker One, Marshall’s Farm Stand, and The Bridge pulled off a fantastic afternoon despite some threatening weather.

The city of Gloucester provided some pretty awesome vehicles including Fire Engine 3, a police Hummer, an ATV, and even a Coast Guard Vessel.  That’s pretty much all my boys needed to make a day of it, but the pony rides, face painting, bouncy houses, awesome vendors, pretty yummy Bloody Marys, gelato, the Sam Adams Brewery Oktoberfest Beer Hoisting Competition (what?), and some pretty sweet alpacas made it all that much more fun.  And…that was by no means all that the event had to offer.

A true collaboration of forces to pull off yet another fantastic family event here in our great city.  Thanks to all!  Put this one on your calendar for next year for sure.

2014 Bluefin Blowout Day Two

In similar fashion to the tournament’s opening day, Day #2 of this year’s Bluefin Blowout also ended with two large Bluefin Tuna being landed.  The Osprey and the Tonno (Italian for tuna) both brought fish to the dock.

This year’s event was fantastic and it is safe to say, with such enthusiasm from organizers, participants, vendors, and spectators, it is only going to get better. I’m already looking forward to next year.  This tournament provides a new take on the already rich summer schedule that Cape Ann offers and I hope it continues for years to come!

In all, 53 boats were entered and four scored some pretty phenomenal bluefin tuna!

The Miss Fern’s fish weighed in at 805 pounds

Tuna.com tipped the charts with a 913 pounder

The Osprey’s fish showed 497 on the scale

and a 588 pound fish was brought in by The Tonno

New Live Henri Smith CD to be released at Celebrate Gloucester Aug 29

HenriPoster_600When Henri Smith brings New Orleans Friends & Flavours, featuring Grammy-winner Amadee Castenell to Cape Ann Marina’s Waterfront Pavilion on August 29, he’ll be helping to raise money for the Cape Ann YMCA — and he’ll release his new live CD recorded at The Larcom Theatre last March.

This will be Henri’s first live CD and it features stellar guests, including Grammy-winners Charles Neville and Amadee Castenell along with young, rising stars — all brought together by Henri Smith, one of the country’s premier band leaders.

Recorded and mixed by Bill Winn (whose award-winning credits include Whitney Houston and Herbie Hancock among many others), this CD is destined to become a classic — and you can get yours signed at the concert.

Henri Smith concerts have been selling out, so you probably shouldn’t procrastinate.

James has invited young rising stars Danielle Miraglia & Marissa Licata along with Gloucester’s own Willie Loco Alexander to join him on stage Friday night August 22 at Cape Ann Marina’s Waterfront Pavilion to help raise money for the Open Door.

This is James’ first appearance in Gloucester on over 2 years and he won’t be back for a while — and you can’t see him with this lineup anywhere else.  So get tickets now (right here) before it’s too late.

Writing all of you fabulous Cape Ann folks to remind you that my summer show in Gloucester is coming up in 3 weeks!

We have rented the event tent at the Cape Ann Marina (at Mile Marker on 133) and the entire tent will be theater row seating with the exception of cabaret seating up front (cabaret table seats 4 and ticket price includes a bottle of Prosecco!).

Renee & Joe are opening and then I’ll do an acoustic set, followed by a full band set with Renee DuPuis on keys and backup vocals, Joe Cardoza on bass, Dennis Monagle on drums, and Brendan Burns (amazingly talented Somerville guitarist) on lead guitar.

This is a one night event so if you plan to attend, please buy your tickets early! We won’t add a second show if we sell out (and I think we will)!

On a side note, I want to take the opportunity to sincerely thank you all for the support you have shown me since moving to Gloucester. Six years ago I began playing open mics at Cameron’s, the Pleasant St. Tea Company, the Rhumb Line, Dog Bar… now most of my shows are in listening rooms and out of state! I’ve worked hard to get here but there is no question in my mind that there is no way I’d be where I am in my career if it weren’t for you. The support system that Gloucester offers to musicians is something truly unique and amazing. It really is because of you that all of these wonderful opportunities have come my way… so thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
