seARTS 9th and biggest art loan installation at Bass Rocks Golf Club opened last night. Visitors to Bass Rocks Golf Club will be able to see the art of 14 artists selected for this year’s seARTS art loan, and it’s all for sale. As if the art, food and party weren’t enough, the reception included brief panel talks about the national Cape Ann Plein Air festival that will kick off this October 11-16, 2016.

Artists interested in competing in Cape Ann Plein Air make sure to apply by the July 14th deadline.

Relax, parents. Now you can allow your kids to walk, ride a bike, or take a bus to school, without you or your children getting arrested. The recently-signed Every Student Succeeds Act contains a section (858) that protects the rights of kids to walk or go out alone. The act was sponsored by Utah senator Mike Lee, who is a supporter of the Free Range Kids movement, and provides some hope for parents who feel that their kids should be allowed some autonomy to get by own their own.

Smokers beware: new ‘green economy’ laws approved by the Italian parliament on Tuesday will see those caught flicking their cigarette butts on the ground slapped with fines.

And it’s not just smokers who are being targeted either. Those caught engaging in equally mindless but unfortunately no less common littering activities will also face fines.

Both inconsiderate chewers who spit their gum onto Italian streets and coffee drinkers who scrunch up their receipts and throw them on the floor will be fined between €30 and €150.

The legislation states that fines will hit people found throwing “small pieces of litter any place that isn’t a bin: including the gutter, floor, and water”.

The measures passed on Tuesday with 169 of Italy’s MPs voting in favor, 32 against and 11 abstaining.

A Council Order was submitted by Greg Verga and Melissa Cox on November 17 to begin the DISCUSSION regarding banning ‘checkout’ bags. After a less than warm reception at the first such discussion at the December 7 meeting of the Ordinance and Administration Committee and the email sent to all City Councilors by a bag industry lobbyist this page has been created to help spread the word.

You are encouraged to share your thoughts about a ban and also to share your photos that help illustrate the need for such a ban. You are also encouraged to reach out to the City Council members and let them know how you feel.

Video: End of the Season By Leslie Heffron

Hi Joey, The season’s winding down in Pigeon Cove. Here’s a one minute slice of life on the waterfront late Sunday afternoon.

Editor’s note: the season is far from over for everyone except the small part timers. We’re actually in the heart of it.

Video: Hot Pink Sunrise by Leslie Heffron

Hope the FOBs enjoy this 2 minute glimpse of life on the water in Pigeon Cove. It’s a very peaceful dawn. All I hear is the wind, the waves, seagulls, and the puttering of the boat’s engine. I feel like l’m living in a Fitz Henry Lane painting!

4th Submission in the Series “Show Me Yours and I’ll Show You Mine”

Hi Paul;
Saw your post on GMG- here’s a shot of my studio. I love to use Prismacolor pencils, Liquitex acrylics, and Windsor Newton oils.  My favorite colored pencil is indigo blue and my favorite oil paint color is Prussian blue.
Right now I’m working on a colored pencil series, “Love Letters to Gloucester” some of which can be seen on my studio wall. I’m drawn to imagery with text, luminosity, and color and have looked to the paintings of Ed Ruscha, David Hockney, Edward Hopper, Nell Blaine, and Richard Diebenkorn for my inspiration.
I’ll be in the upcoming show, “Art @ Bass Rocks” which opens on May 31 from 6-8 P.M. Hope to see the FOB there!
My website is: http://www.leslieheffron.com. I hope you enjoy my paintings and drawings!

Thanks!  Leslie
