Farmhouse Fixer on HGTV

When it’s time to look for new windows, one of the first questions we’ll ask you is: are you looking for New Construction or Replacement Windows? And often times that question can be confusing. Sam & John are here to break down the differences, and help find out if Replacement Windows are right for your project.

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, and we are beyond excited to finally be able to tell you about it. This past year, we had the opportunity to work with Jonathan Knight, of New Kids on the Block and local interior designer Kristina Crestin on the new HGTV show Farmhouse Fixer.

Their job was to restore farmhouses to their former glory, for the families that live in them, and to keep their charm and character in the neighborhood. It’s usually easier to tear down these homes than to…

Repairs are underway. Support the restoration of Our Lady of Good Voyage! #GloucesterMA

Efforts to mobilize repairs on the west tower blue dome of Our Lady of Good Voyage are underway. Photos show some of the damage to the inspiring tower that was sustained after the windstorm this week. If you wish to help the cause to restore, on line donations can be made at the church: https://ccgronlineolgv.churchgiving.com/ The Church, all of Gloucester & greater Cape Ann, and all the artists and admirers of Our Lady of Good Voyage around the world would surely appreciate the support!

The Portuguese church of Our Lady of Good Voyage on Prospect Street in Gloucester is resilient. The church was re-built after a catastrophic fire in 1914. Thousands attended the laying of the cornerstone on May 24, 1915. (Less than ten years later, during the year of the city’s tercentenary, parishioners celebrated the mortgage liquidation.) One of our city’s most cherished buildings, the landmark was added to the National Historic Register of Historic Places in 1990.

February on the Water

I was a little surprised to come upon this group kayaking and paddleboarding on the Jones River on a “Sunday Ride” as February came to a close. Great day for it! Although I realize we are in false spring, it’s still nice to see signs that the seasons are changing.

Gloucester in the news: Wall Street Journal covers Fitz Henry Lane and Cape Ann Museum

Pauline’s friend Gary shared a photo of his paper (Pauline’s Gifts). Beautiful- thanks for sending!

“A Luminist’s Hometown Harbor: The Cape Ann Museum Holds an Unrivaled of Painter and Printmaker Fitz Henry Lane’s work” By Willard Spiegelman Wall Street Journal March 4, 2021

“the Cape Ann Museum, a showcase for work by local artists of sometimes international reputation and a generous gallimaufry of objects relating to local history, the fishing industry, granite quarrying, and the immigrant communities that have kept Gloucester vibrant. Boats and the sea are its leitmotifs.

Founded in 1875, renamed in 2007, it is no longer the modest historical society it began as, but a real art museum.”

Use of Common Sense at all Times is Essential…

I’ve seen this 100s of times, but never actually read it. “Use of common sense at all times is essential to an enjoyable and safe experience.” Lessons from the hockey rink. This could be applied everywhere.

Cozy Sunday Dinner at 525

Our Sunday dinner plans didn’t go as expected. Our intended destination was too busy to take us within the time frame we had available (which is great news) so we decided to go the 525 on Lexington Ave in Magnolia. It was just the atmosphere and vibe we were looking for that night. The atmosphere is low key and cozy. Masks were worn by all, seating appropriately distanced and separate: all protocols in place to make me feel secure.

The walls are decorated with old photos of Magnolia, so I’m totally in love. The Pom Pom margarita was VERY well made and I plan to make it a return favorite. I tried the French Onion soup….also to go on my favorites menu. Jim had the chicken pot pie, perfect for a Sunday night appetite. He thinks this is the way pot pies should be presented! I ordered a pizza (brick oven was the key phrase in that decision). I tried the Spanish Coffee which perfectly topped off the dinner It was a very enjoyable experience. We’ll be back sooner than later!
