In and about Harriet Webster Pier yesterday, after our gorgeous morning row with Gloucester Gig Rowers www.gloucestergigrowers.com . Busy place! Tall ships "Westward", "Harvey Gamage" and "Spirit of Massachusetts" all rafted together, plus Harold Burnham’s lovely schooner "Ardelle" – along with our three Cornish pilot gigs.

Glad to see your photo of the notice at Solomon Jacobs Park that thumbnails the career of the mighty captain. As an event of the Captains Courageous Festival next Saturday (9/22), I’ll be talking about my book, “On Opposite Tacks,” at Maritime Gloucester at 10:00 AM. In my illusrated talk I’ll focus on Sol Jacobs as an innovator introducing technological change to the fisheries. He was the forerunner of those who are making Gloucester THE fisheries science harbor.
