Tomorrow, Sunday, September 2nd, has a very significant event occurring during the magnificent Schooner Race festivities. Our own Schooner Adventure, built in Essex in 1926, will rightfully be leading the Parade of Sail around Gloucester Harbor, starting at 10:30 am. Adventure has not been underway for 15 years, due to extensive restoration. Although she’ll be under power, she’ll be sailing soon. The 121.6 foot long knockabout schooner is listed as a National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Place. There will be many a tear in Gloucester folk eyes as Adventure glides by, parading in her place of prominence as one of the greatest fishing schooners of all time; a living tribute to the 5,000 Gloucester fishermen lost at sea. Don’t miss it, this will be a show stopper. See it from the Fort, Stacy Boulevard, or Stage Fort Park. And sail on her next year.
