Benjamin Moore mural

It’s easy to take it for granted that we live in a city with lots of beauty, so it’s good to be reminded now and then that we are surrounded by works of art and ingenuity. For instance, I like this mural on the side of the Benjamin Moore store on Railroad Ave. – not just because it’s well painted, but because it is somewhat self-referential: a painting (on a paint store) of painters painting the wall they are painted on…

Eventually I plan to get photos of more of our city’s murals…

Do you Support or Oppose Tolerance and Freedom from Discrimination?

In the time I’ve lived here, I wouldĀ say thatĀ most people I’ve met would support tolerance, freedom from discrimination,Ā and the teaching of tolerance and acceptance of others to youth.Ā

Tales of Bong Tree Island is a book about tolerance and acceptance of others, and the freedom to choose who to love without fear of discrimination, as told from the perspective of the owlpusses, the descendants of the owl and the pussycat, a trailblazing interspecies couple from England who Edward Lear made famous in the 1870’s.

If published, Tales of Bong Tree Island has the potential to be a great tool for encouraging tolerance, compassionĀ and acceptance of each other by people of all ages, but especially for the youth – the ones who are the future of our species.

If you support tolerance, compassion and acceptance of others, please support Tales of Bong Tree Island at whatever level you can.Ā  There are only 9 days left in the campaign to raise the funds needed to print the initial run of the book and pay Kickstarter and Amazon fees.Ā Ā  There are great rewards for backers.

The Winning Float will have Winning Local Music

That’s right folks. Ā You all know which will be the winning float and just like last year, we’re creating a special playlist of the best local music available (plus one not-so-local-but-oh-so-party-song). Ā If you have a request from a local artist (music needs to be on gimmesound.com — see local gimmesound artists here), comment on this post by midnight tonight and we’ll add it.

Be sure to go to the Boulevard after the parade for some of Gloucester’s best high energy music from with The Runaround Sound headlining. Ā See schedule here.
