Funny Ipswich book by “The Outsidah”
What do you think about your hometown?
Only in Ipswich, a new book by Ipswich Chronicle columnist Doug Brendel, makes humorous observations on life in Ipswich from the perspective of a newcomer.
Cartoon-illustrated by the author, Only in Ipswich includes a complete year’s worth of “The Outsidah” columns, plus the columns Brendel wrote that his wife wouldn’t let him turn in.
“Don’t forget to mention that I included very poor-quality sketches of all five selectmen,” Brendel says. OK, there, we didn’t forget. His sketches also include a mosquito in a Patriots cap, a fisher cat driving a school bus, a map of Ipswich constructed out of breakfast foods, and other oddities.
“I hope the book makes people smile with recognition,” the author says, “as they see Ipswich in a fun new way. I think it might also be something anyone on the North Shore might like to send to friends or relatives out of town, to give them a glimpse of why we love it here.”
