Lewis Sandler Gloucester Video From August 2010
Hey Joe,
Remember me? Lewis Sandler here. I took a video of Gloucester+ last August.. Well, it is now online…(I’m a little slow)
You can see it below..But keep in mind, the video was made for my students in university in Beijing, China who have never been to US and know little about US or especially small town USA. My purpose was too introduce them to my hometown. So my video, in some aspects,(eg my family friends) may be a little irrelevant to you or your viewers. But hope you enjoy it anyway.
I showed video to them last month and they all liked it very much. They asked me questions such as why so many boats, why the belly dancer dance in the street, why the man with the beer (you) doesn’t want his wife to know he drinks beer, what does my brother (Clark) think of government fishing regulations etc..

Peabody Essex Museum – Check out Eye Spy, Playing with Perception Exhibit
I didn’t get a web business feature for this week, but recently got to Peabody Essex Museum in Salem and wanted to share some pics. If you have never made the trip down to Salem to check out PEM, you need to get one scheduled. It has something for everyone, including young kids. We go right to the Art & Nature center, where the kids are safe to experience much of the exhibit. The rest of the Museum is stunning and a truly visceral experience. After checking out this museum, grab a bite at one of the many restaurants within walking distance.
Thanks – Patrick
Senator Scott Brown At Cape Pond Ice
Good Morning Joey….
In the last photo, we’re admiring my photograph on the back of our truck “Catch the Cool”
The Senator’s promised me a copy of his new book, and headed out by boat (it was low tide, and the ladder down was a little dicey) with a Cape Pond Ice t-shirt and fleece vest.

Valentine’s Day Poem
“LOVERS’ MOON”
By Joda Khan
mere words come to life
they have colors
they’re butterflies escaping their cocoons
shadows can feel
and fantasies are real
under a lovers’ moon
lovers embrace under night darkened skies
they trade kisses as sweet as wine
the trees standing near
seem to be caught in the spell
as their branches reach out
and entwine
under the glow of this yellow moon
every word written is gold
they speak of pyramids
of magical times
and of stories yet to be told
the eerie light of a lovers’ moon
conjurs up words never repeated while alone
and whispers that linger
on the breath of night
they seem to follow wherever you roam
so if the words in your soul must be spoken
with the eloquence of a musical tune
then arm yourselves with heart in hand
and search each night
for a lovers’ moon

Happy Valentines Day!
Don’t forget! Get your mother some flowers right away! Get extra kisses from your wee ones (even if they are awkwardly unwilling 15-year-olds), give your honey a thank you and a kiss (these are free and go over well for either and both sexes.)
Low expense or free, fun things to do:
- Make home-made Valentines
- Watch the sunset
- Take a walk in the park, along the boardwalk, or on the back shore
- Walk down Main Street
- Get hot chocolate at a Cafe
- Go to a local candy store and choose one piece each (just one – it’s hard, but more fun and turns it into a snack-tivity)
- Walk along a wind-whipped beach
- Light candles
- Make homemade dessert together
- Write a love letter
- Read a poem together
- Put on nice music
- Time is the most precious gift you can give

Blue Shutters Beachside Chili Cookoff Report From Tony Sapienza
Joey — here’s a report on last night’s Blue Shutters Beachside Chili Cookoff.. I’ve attached some photos..and included a link to our blog post on this.
Thanks
Tony
It’s been just a few hours since the last of the chili leftovers were stowed in the fridge, but folks are already talking about plans for our next Blue Shutters Beachside Chili Cookoff. Last night’s event — our first-ever — featured nine different chili contestants…and even more very happy unofficial chili tasters. It was up to our judges — Jeremy Goldberg of the Cape Ann Brewing Company and Doug Silva of the Topside Grill and Pub — to chose the winner. Taking the trophy was Joe Paonessa of Stoneham, who was awarded a gift card for a free return visit to the Blue Shutters. Jeremey and Doug also chose second- and third-place runner-ups — Mark Sapienza of Stoneham and Sheri Dellagrotta of Rhode Island — and rewarded them with gift certificates to the brewery and the Topside (Mark had an a bit of an advantage…he’s the executive chef at the Langham Hotel in Boston; he’ll be back at the Blue Shutters next month to headline our wine and food tasting). The judges agreed: it was a tough decision, with a varity of chili recipes and every one was a winner. In addition to chili, guests enjoyed a selection of Cape Ann Brewery beers (courtesy of Jeremy), wine and sangria, Valentine’s desserts and all of the usual chili accompaniments. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a fun evening. We’ll be holding another Blue Shutters Chili Cookoff — once we finish off the left-overs…which could take quite awhile. But for now, our focus is set on our next event: a Mardi Gras Murder Mystery on March 5. If that’s half as much fun as the Chili Cookoff (and our pastmurder mystery nights) we’re all in for great evening.

Jim Hughes Funky Lobster Claw
Hi Joey,
An interesting event happened last night at our neighbors Lobster party. They went to a market here in Naples and asked for 9-1 1/2 pound lobsters. They were given 2 bags full of Lobsters and brought them home. As they were cooking, this claw was noticed. Apparently, something under the sea also has a craving for this fine meat. All they got of this one was a bite, and the bite had grown over with a dark hard shell. I’m sure that you have seen this a lot, but it was a first for us. It made a great conversation piece.
