I have no freaking clue how it got it’s title but here is how she describes it-
Good Morning Gloucester 
The Blackgang is an old Navy term referring to the engine room crew on an old coal steamer. My father was the engine room chief aboard a mine sweeper in WW2, and drew a comic strip called Adventures of the Blackgang.
