Debbie Clarke Verre Eglomise Demo Unfinished

This morning Debbie Clarke came down the dock to perform a demonstration of the verre eglomise painting technique which involves paint, silver and gold leaf and glass.  Our own Paulie Walnuts (capeannpainter) was the figure model for the demo.

Look for the video tomorrow morning at 8AM

Last night’s concert was a entertaining mix of music, dance, and comedy. We have some great talent in Gloucester.  A huge THANK YOU to all who gave their time and energy to raise money for Doctors Without Borders who in turn will provide needed aid to the Haiti people.

How to Buy a Digital Camera

Many people have asked how to choose a digital camera. This article should help.

From Digital Photography School

1. Determine what you need

A mistake I see some digital camera buyers making is that they get sucked into buying cameras that are beyond what they really need. Some questions to ask yourself before you go shopping:

  • What do you need the camera for?
  • What type of photography will you be doing? (portraits, landscapes, macro, sports)
  • What conditions will you be largely photographing in? (indoors, outdoors, low light, bright light)
  • Will you largely stay in auto mode or do you want to learn the art of photography?
  • What experience level do you have with cameras?
  • What type of features are you looking for? (long zoom, image stabilization, large LCD display etc)
  • How important is size and portability to you?
  • What is your budget?

Ask yourself these questions before you go to buy a camera and you’ll be in a much better position to make a decision when you see what’s on offer. You’ll probably find the sales person asks you this question anyway – so to have thought about it before hand will help them help you get the right digital camera.

Mondello Boys Slide Show Featuring Joe, Pete and Geno

Entering tags on each photo I upload to flickr is sometimes a painstaking process but when you think about the sheer number of photos taken (say 100,000 or more) there would be absolutely no way to ever locate a particular photo without going through all 100,000 photos unless you have each one tagged with an identifying name.

It is through this tagging system that I can locate and isolate certain photos. It may be painstaking but the archive of photos from Gloucester and of my family that I can access with a few clicks of the keyboard are pretty remarkable.

What’s Happening On The Other Side Of The Pond You Ask?

The Spiegeltent is in town.

Check out the story on BBC Gloucestershire

The Spiegeltent is an ornate travelling ball-room which was originally made in Belgium in the 19th Century. It is one of only a handful that remain in existence.

Thanks to Ed Collard for forwarding the story.
