GRAND OPENING FESTIVITIES SLATED FOR THIS WEEKEND ON ROCKY NECK’S MADFISH WHARF AT WENDIE DEMUTH PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY!

Saturday and Sunday June 11 & 12, Noon-9:00, 77 Rocky Neck Ave, G4 on the Madfish Grille Wharf

Newly minted Gloucester resident Wendie Demuth will officially christen her first photography gallery this weekend and everyone is invited! In addition to unveiling luscious global imagery shot everywhere from Indonesia to Africa to Europe– and of course the center of the universe, Cape Ann — Wendie will be treating visitors to snacks and her newly-launched brand of proprietary ice tea that has appropriately been branded “Joey C. and Wendie D.’s Iced Tea”—in addition to other festive libations!

This gallery’s photography is as cool as the ice tea and promises to deliver the kind of wonder and curiosity only Mother Nature can concoct. Images include panoramic views of giant red sand dunes from Namibia (the largest in the world!), vivid close-ups and landscapes of Holland’s tulips, crazy colorful abstracts, and loads of other visual delights that will have you wondering whether you’re looking at a painting or a photograph– all priced so everyone can afford to decorate their spaces with a completely inspiring and original print of one size or another!

So come down to the Madfish Wharf on Rocky Neck this weekend to help Wendie celebrate her opening and eat, drink and be merry with all your fellow FOB-ers and all the other totally cool Rocky Neckers– and of course make sure to stop by the  GoodMorningGloucester Gallery–G3, right next door!!

June 9, 2011 Gloucester Harbor Lightning Strikes From The Dock

I took this and slowed the video to one quarter actual time so you could see the strikes. About a third of the way through you can see a seagull gliding across the screen. I’ll have to do more of these. Feel free to forward to friends or family who may be out of town.

Sam Hartson To Present- “This Is Fiesta” at Cape Ann Community Cinema

Sam Writes-

I don’t know how energetic that video is, but I thought it captured more of an epic moment. That feeling that so few know when they’re carried on the shoulders of their friends, lifting that once-seemingly unattainable flag high into the air and realizing they’ve earned a incredible achievement and can now be called a champ. What must he have been thinking, feeling. His mind, likely abuzz with euphoria and optimism and thoughts of what comes next. Fused permanently into Fiesta history and united with nearly 100 years of champions and culture. Only a select few know what it’s like to ride down Fiesta’s main artery and down the fort into the heart of that incredible Fiesta energy.

That’s what I tried to capture in “This is Fiesta”. It’s an understanding of Gloucester on that tremendous weekend. A perspective, a feeling. An emotion. There’s something in the air in Gloucester that just seems to overflow and pour into the streets of the hot and humid city in late June. The people are happier, electricity flows through their veins as well as through the lights around the altar, the core of St. Peter’s celebration that continually pumps music and excitement from its speakers and from the voices of hundreds of young guys and girls whose screaming voices can be heard miles away as they pay enormous amounts of money to ride and play at the carnival. Fiesta is less an event and more an experience, and everyone experiences it differently. So the film offers a different perspective and serves as an inspiration to really explore the events of this magnanimous cultural spectacle that is entirely unique to the fishing port. It encourages the audience to want to know more and to make their fiesta experience an original and memorable one.

Chickity Check it! The Bluenose II Reconstruction/Construction Project

I have no idea how they call it a reconstruction as it seems like they are building an entirely new boat.  The Bluenose II was an incredibly beautiful boat but according to The Queens new Life in Canada blog, it’s keel was warped and they totally deconstructed it.

So they built this enormous structure to rebuild build another Bluenose II.

Here are some of my pictures of The Bluenose II when she was in Gloucester August 31, 2008-

Local Music Seen Get’s Their Stuff Online. First Up, The Bandit Kings!

Peter Van Ness Writes-

Dear Joey,
You’ve been telling me since December that we JUST HAD to get the Local MusicSeen shows on the Web.  Well, we finally got our first archive video published thanks to the help of our very talented and resourceful Web editor Jon Cooney.
See it here  http://localmusicseen.com/BanditKings.cfm

In order to make it work best on the Web, Jon cut it into 3 parts.  I’ve published all 3 on a single page so you can watch the entire show at once if you like.

We picked The Bandit Kings show for our archive debut for several reasons — some technical — but mostly because it’s a SUPERB SHOW!  Performances are stellar; the energy reaches through the screen and grabs you; songwriting is inspired — and they look so good on camera!

Hope you enjoy it — and remember, Joey, when you speak we listen!

Sista Felicia Does Moms Zucchini Side Dish At The Gloucester Daily Times Taste Of The Times

image

Check It Out At The Gloucester Daily Times Website By Clicking here

The summer vegetables will be coming soon and this simple version of preparing zucchini is another recipe from Felicia Mohan’s home style Italian kitchen. When zucchini becomes plentiful you need many different ways to prepare it that are simple and of course tastes good.
This particular recipe is one of the ways her mother used to prepare zucchini and that is where it got its’ name. The main ingredients that give this side dish its flavor are the basil, the chicken broth and the juice of a fresh lemon. Felicia insists that the lemon juice be fresh in order to achieve the full flavor.

GLOUCESTER AUTHOR PATRICK DOUD SECOND NOVEL- THE MORNITH WAR

Patrick Doud/The Mornith War Book Release Party
Sunday, June 5, 3 p.m.
The Bookstore of Gloucester
61 Main St

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Patrick Doud was born in 1968 in Syracuse, New York. He grew up in Bernhards Bay, a hamlet on the northern shore of Oneida Lake, and in East Amherst, a suburb of Buffalo. After several years of academic wandering he ended up at Bard College in the Hudson Valley, where he studied literature. Three books of his poetry were published in the nineties: Girding the Ghost, The Man in Green, and Hickory Bardolino Poems. Although he continues to be involved with poetry, these days most of his attention is devoted to fantasy. He is quick to explain that there is much traffic between the two. He and his family live in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in a house near the woods, the city, and the sea.

Three years and many adventures after the events of The Hunt for the Eye of Ogin, companions Elwood, Slukee, Drallah, and Booj are charged with a task beyond Winnitok’s northern edge. Arriving in the community of a charismatic prophet, they find that Granashon the Nohar has been attempting to settle a conflict between the prophet’s followers and a proud clan of wolf truans. But this threat to peace is overshadowed by another, as an unnatural scourge of spirits is burning the prophet’s fields with a ghostly green fire.
While Granashon leads Elwood, Slukee, and a small band of others to battle the source of the spirits in an ancient mountain fortress, Drallah and Booj stay behind to help protect the besieged prophet and her followers—including a girl with whom Elwood has begun a relationship the prophet has expressly forbidden.
The companions are caught up in an intense struggle to defend the lands of the prophet and the wolf truans, and to discover and defeat the power behind the spirits before they spread to Winnitok and beyond.Patrick Doud

The Villa Guys in Unawontuna, Sri Lanka wishing Gloucester a Good Morning & Happy New Year

From Jo-Ann Castano-

My husband Andy and I stayed at The Villa for a few days during our trip to Sri Lanka. We were celebrating New Year’s Day, known as Aluth Avurudda, on April 14th when shooting this.  Before we left we had to take a Glosta photo op with our GMG travel badge. The Villa guys, who graciously made our stay most memorable, lined up to wish “Glosta” a Good Morning and Happy New Year.  So, this is for you Joey and Glosta.
